I just thought of the perfect way to store/invest money itt OP is a genius

Paper money is inheritor worthless because it’s just paper but coins are actually made of metal so they have inherit value. So instead of saving cash just keep buckets of quarters. Plus nobody will be able to rob you because it’s too much weight. I’m going to my bank tommorow to close my account and demand they pay me my $15k balance in quarters. How many 5 gallon buckets do you think I will need?

I cant remember if it's true, but I read that nickles have about 5 cents in melt value, or even slightly more depending on nickel prices. I remember someone talking about hording nickels to counter inflation. not very practical though.

i had a bunch of change and decided to spend it at fast food place , they will look at you like your crazy when hand them 6 dollars in nickels

I'm fully aware. Nobody said OP has to melt them himself though. The "melt value" of the metal is the coins value, based on their potential to be melted. They could be traded based on that value many times before anybody actually decided to melt them. By the time inflation is bad enough for someone to actually decide to melt them, whoever has them at that point probably won't care much about the law. Scrapping and melting is very common regardless of the law.
