If they really mean only the combat system and some of the mechanics, good, I get it but I think this could also mean they go full DEI and blackwash a lot of the characters, get rid of things like the sex cards which these days would be called 'problematic and sexist' if so is a red flag.

overall score: 9/10

the negatives:
the story, no idea what was going on, not watching 5 hrs of youtube videos to understand the lore
side quests: i dont need an arrow showing me where to go but at least have a log, also quests you can miss are annoying since i only do 1 play through of games usually
crafting: didnt craft a single item
some of the dlc bosses had never ending attack combos with minimal time to attack
the "troll" factor, for example a mob around the corner that pops out and 1 shots you or knocks you off a ledge

positives:
difficulty: you can make it as hard as you want or as easy as you want, can do no summons, no magic no gear etc or just get an op build and pop the mimic
weapon variety: mass weapons to chose from
combat: a lot of unique bosses except dragons
the currency added to the dlc was a good idea so you couldnt pound cheeks as soon as you started it
exploration: great exploration, needed to look up a guide to find some of the hidden dlc areas

overall solid game 9/10

I swear it feels like years since I last played a Sony exclusive from a first party studio.


I remember back in the PS4 days I had at least 2 new cinematic 2deep4u games per year (or one more if it was good year) .... This gen however feels like I've done nothing but play glorified exclusives that were made purely for the cross-gen experience. I mean sure these exclusives are still better looking than the majority of the titles released this gen, but it just feels like these games are still missing that certain magic touch that they had back in the PS4 days.

Maybe it's the fact that most of the games are direct sequels, so they feel kinda iterative compared to the new ips they released in PS4 gen or that the sequels feel kinda safe compared to what they released during PS4's time. A good example would be UC4 and TLOU 2 both of which even though borrowed heavily from their predecessors, the sequels for the PS4 felt very different, but still kept the essence of the game.

Horizon FW, Spiderman 2 and GOW2 were great games, but just felt incredibly safe and samey.


The PS4 era sony games were so amazing that they actually broke people like Jay, who've made it their life's identity to irrationally hate on these games despite it being both critically and commercially loved and the reason why people bought playstations in the first place. Then sony forced their studios to pivot to gaas games and then pivot back again (prolly) and chances are we won't see any other cinematic 2deep4u experiences until the end of this gen or until PS6 releases.


Thank god for Microsoft who've decided to copy Sony's playbook and are trying to release single player experiences with their recent crop of games.

MMOs are like ARPGs but with more stuff - crafting, economy, raids/more people etc etc

So yeah, it's weird that people would enjoy ARPGs but not MMOs.

How come? (if this is you)

Gears of War 1 was notorious for it's color palette which heavily feature greys, black and browns. It made the entire tone and atmosphere of the game incredibly claustrophobic, foreboding and very bleak as it leaned more towards horror elements.


Gears of War 3 meanwhile was the first entry in the series that started adding more to the color palette and was a huge change in tone/atmosphere compared to 2 and especially 1. By the time you reached gears 4 & 5, the game was rather colorful while still maintaining the overall action-y tone of the game which was brought about with GOW2 but it was clearly more "gen-z"/Marvel inspired with its characters.

Do you want to see E-Day lean more towards the older color palletes of gen 7 where was everything was grey and brown or do you want to see them lean into the current gen where everything can still be colorful, but still maintain horror elements?

Personally for me, since Gears of War E-day is a prequel, and not a numbered sequel from GOW 5. I'd actually like to see them go back to the original color palette with more horror elements focused. I absolutely detest the drab and boring grey/brown color palletes that infested the 7th gen, but just a small palette cleanser I'd like them to emphasize the older color palette more while leaning into the bleak sci-fi elements. The numbered sequel can actually continue on with more colors and what not lol.

E-Day is supposed to be scary, intimidating and filled with uncertainty so it makes sense for the game to harbor more horror elements as we meet the locusts for the first time and since it's a prequel. The trailer for E-Day actually captured all that quite well so hopefully it can maintain the tone and how the locusts are dangerous as fuk to the cogs.
