Will reigns run be used to put people over or wasted like super cenas.
We had all those years of super cena, but when he was wrapping up as a full timer he just kind of fizzled out and you wouldn't say that his name was used to really create any new stars.

Do you think it will be the same way with Roman, eventually he will leave for Hollywood and just pop back now and then and only start doing jobs when it doesn't really mean anything.

AEW launches Saturday night show
NEW YORK (May 17, 2023) – TNT launches a second night of professional wrestling with a new tentpole series, “AEW: Collision” on Saturday, June 17, it was announced today by Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content Officer, US Networks Group, Warner Bros. Discovery, during the company’s 2023 Upfront presentation at Madison Square Garden in New York City. This live, two-hour, in-ring show will air every Saturday night from 8-10 p.m. ET and feature more wrestlers, more stories and more action to super-serve fans. “AEW: Collision” will feature headliners including Miro, Samoa Joe, Thunder Rosa, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Andrade El Idolo.

In only four years following the launch of “AEW: Dynamite,” AEW’s footprint has more than doubled across TNT and TBS. Along with “AEW: Dynamite,” Friday night’s “AEW: Rampage,” the recent follow-doc “AEW: All Access,” and now “AEW: Collision,” TNT and TBS deliver the best matches and most entertaining moments in professional wrestling today. AEW has reached 23M total viewers so far this year across all of its shows on TBS and TNT.*

Pretty weak use of the word headliner when seeing those names they tied in. Just sounds like an opportunity for an even more watered down and over saturated product.

There’s the argument that their target demo is out and about on Saturday nights, but it’s not like AEW super marks actually go out on dates, get invited to gatherings, etc,, so the time slot might not be too problematic for viewership

Why did Owen purposely break Austin's neck?
When it first happened yeah it looked like an accident, but so much has come out since then, I think Owen did it on purpose, though I can't understand why. Both their careers were on an upward trajectory.

Before the piledriver, Austin asked if he was gonna drop on his knees and Owen said he was sitting down. Unfortunately, Austin trusted him to do the right thing. Owen knew he had a bad neck.

My own reasoning is Owen thought he paid his dues and if he's losing his spot (and title) to Austin, then he's taking him out. Even if subconsciously.

Other thoughts on why?

Here are some quotes from Owen, Bret and Austin that also leads me to believe it was intentional. The lack of remorse from Owen.

And I think Steve was always a little bit pissed off that Owen didn’t seem to care that he hurt him.”

WCW Chris Jericho was the best, it was all downhill after that.
Sorry but it's true.

In WCW jericho was just a straight forward arrogant heel with a bit of humour mixed in, a rip off of Shawn Michaels (but a good rip off) with the addition of a bit of self deprivation, simple, it worked, it was great. Excellent entrance music as well.

He was on a natural progression to the world title, 1 or 2 more years and he'd have been there. He could have been a face of the company guy in the late 90s early 2000s if given the chance.

When he went to the wwe they killed him day 1 by making rocky own him on the mic in his debut and from there on just never got it right with him. Yeah he had title reigns and stuff but he was never the man, never. He ALWAYS served to get other people over.

From mid 2000s onwards he's just been a guy who looks like a middle aged woman and over complicates all his gimmicks.

Diminishing returns.

Y2J was as good a wrestler as he ever would be when he was still a rookie.

I really want to include Roman on here, but I'll cut him some slack because of the Bloodline storyline and Heyman. Otherwise Roman by himself is the king of cringe. He completely botched the Joe Pesci Goodfellas lines last week on Smackdown which is unfathomable considering his WM commercial was the Joe Pesci Goodfellas spoof. How the hell does he screw that up and forget his lines so quickly?

I'm not even including AEW because they're all twinks. It would be easier to just list the few who don't make me change the channel.


Who else is cringe embarrassing hard to watch?

What will be more of a sh**show: Draft or World Heavyweight Championship?
Where do I begin? In theory, a draft should be picked from NXT or guys who don't have WWE contracts. Fresh meat. This is more of a trade between RAW and Smackdown. Previous drafts were "computer" generated that seemed automated. Other years the GMs would choose. In both cases very predictable. Tag teams and real life couples never get split up which is a joke.

Any chance Judgement Day is getting split up? Nope.
Any chance Sammy and KO are getting split up? Nope.
Any chance Seth and Becks are getting split up? Nope.
Any chance Fairy Gargano and wife are getting split up? Nope.

Do they think anyone cares which show Rey Mysterio is on?

It wont be memorable and we'll have to rely on the commentators for the constant reminders who is on which show, but the reality is no one cares. C'mon WWE tell me why it matters?


Now for the Heavyweight Championship. HHH's explanation was so dumb. So they want a champion who defends the title more frequently and do what's best for business? Hey Trips, you're in charge. Why not just tell the writers to do a storyline where Roman loses the titles? Duh...

Instead after 3+ years they're gonna finally undermine the build up of Roman Reigns title run and water it down with another title. No matter who wins, it will be the "B" title. And after several years I'm sure we'll see Champion vs Champion again for the undisputed heavyweight championship. I can see it now. Somehow Cody will win it, but he never beat Roman, blah blah blah. So predictable. They did it with Jericho, Balor, Reigns and whoever else that I'm forgetting, but its just rinse and repeat. Oh wait, even OMOS gets written into the storyline with Seth as a possible contender. Omos is the male version of Eve. Hooray! Everybody gets a championship.

Did Cody Forgive Seth or Is He Scared of Him?
Remember in their HIAC match when Cody suffered an injury? Seth attacked him after the match.

Now that Cody is healthy, he just ignores Seth? Why isnt he after payback? Is he scared Seth will whoop his ass again or maybe Seth visited him at the hospital and they buried the hatchet?

He can’t let go of Brock attacking him yet what Seth did was worse!

Just weird that such an intense rivalry suddenly is forgotten especially with what happened on their last match.

Kane had the biggest drop off ever in wrestling imo.
Masked Kane was an absoloute beast, believable against anyone, believable enough in fact that the opponent basically either had to get lucky, or cheat to beat him.

Best monster heel ever.

Mask off kane (and even the last like year of masked kane tbh) was just a joke pretty much, never looked like a threat to the title, if it was kane in a title match you knew he was losing, where early on his career it was more "how the hell is the champion gonna beat kane"

Huge drop and wasted potential, imo he should have spent most of his career in an Andre like role where any win over him was a shocker and a massive deal.

He jobbed to khaki at mania ffs.

He's believable enough plus he has cronies who can fend off the other Samoans long enough for a 3 count.

I strongly think a worker needs to beat reigns, someone who can elevate a lot of people, gubther can do that.

Is It Really Hard to Create Shows with Deep Storylines For Every Feuds?
Or even most feuds if not all? Seems like only the top half got deep storylines. The rest are crappy ones that either fizzle or forgotten.

Even Trips struggle with this, though better than Vince the past decade. I think the best we got was the Gold and Black NXT years back.

Cant say about AEW or Impact cuz I don't watch those.

For any old heads, what were the Freebird/Von Erich and RNR/Midnights feuds like?
Their day was before my day, but the more I’ve absorbed more matches, promos, etc over years and years, the more I can’t help but notice how much more entertaining the Freebirds and Midnight Expresss were over the Von Erichs and RNR, respectively. With the Von Erichs, I understand how in the territory days that regional ties meant something. Their Texas ties were special. But at the end of the day you had a bunch of guys with bowl cuts, pale skin and weird Neanderthal jaw lines trying to look cool while jogging awkwardly to the ring…while PS Hayes comes out oozing in fuking cool and dripping with more charisma out of his offhand pinky. Badstreet Atlanta G-A baby! Then there were Bam Bam and Roberts who brought the fuking goods, and rounded out arguably the greatest threesome the business has seen.

RNR Express might be the biggest head scratcher. Both looked like crackheads, who couldn’t cut it on the stick and came off as regional talent with their look and hokey entrance theme. Yet somehow they often get more acclaim in all-time tag team rankings vs. the Midnights. You also hear about the underage girls and their p3do behavior. Midnight Express, meanwhile, were like a million bucks. Like the Bobby and Dennis pairing, with Dennis as more of a worker and natural heat seeker than Stan, but I think Stan seemed to create more of a polished cohesiveness that tied it all together. The total package with one of the greatest wrestling minds, managers, you name it guiding the ship, who was decades ahead of his time. I don’t think the modern wrestling world nor those who have only absorbed attitude era onward truly embrace Cornette’s brilliance. It’s no wonder these guys were getting face reactions and eventually had to be turned, because they were too fuking cool for school.

Anyways, I’m curious what those here who might have been alive for more of the mix of it think of these feuds and general thoughts on that time period. Can understand that maybe the territory era and baby face emphasis was different then than now, but it seems like the crowds weren’t necessarily as black and white as one might think
