I'm not saying it wasn't a good win. I just wouldn't call it a masterful performance by any means. He had a ton of opportunities for things besides just standing and banging that he didn't capitalize on (had multiple opportunities to take Ortega's back). Ortega is a Gracie BJJ dude so obviously everyone's gonna say no chit he didn't wanna go to the ground with him, but in those specific situations it just shows to me Max's fight game isn't 3D if that makes sense.

Also Connor has a 74" reach (Halloway is 69), hence where the lanky part comes into play.

I'm sure this post is gonna get a ton of hate, but that's just what I observed from the fight.
You're right, this post will get a lot of hate because it's retarted. So what if Max has no punching power, his volume and cardio makes up for it. He's clearly an improved version of the diaz brothers, where we actually have Nate beating Connor. And people actually enjoy watching the diaz brothers fight because of their volume. Of course Max is not gonna go for the finish on the ground (he tried once and almost got his leg caught), have you ever seen any comeback wins, like ever, in the ufc? He played to his strengths and eventually ended up with the stoppage, against a guy who was dangerous and known for elusive comebacks. The dude has a clear high fight IQ and more than deserves anybody's respect.

Joanna hasnt been the same lately, her soul is gone after suffering those back to back losses against rose, and she drank her own kool aid and has been an annoying little twat lately talking about how shes the queen and not accepting the losses even though she was thoroughly outclassed.

Shes gotten picked apart the first 2 rounds and manhandled (womanhandled?) in the clinch and takedowns, I see her getting finished in 4-5 tonight
Yeah Joanna seems to have changed a lot and I bet Rose has had a lot to do with that, especially after their rematch where Joanna kept saying she was robbed in the decision while having taken all that damage. But I did expect Valentina to win more convincingly. I felt like neither were really in the fight.

On Holloway...he looked damn good, better than I expected. Even when he got hit (that elbow wasn't much) he shrugged it off and stuffed the takedown attempts. Punching seriously on point...good for him. Glad the fight was stopped given Ortega's eye.

I know it's easier said than done but Ortega should've been doing everything in his power to get the fight to the ground.
Bodybuilding is a lifetime journey, anytime spent not bulking or cutting is a waste of time.

No way he was able to come out for a fifth. I would almost refused to watch if the doctor didnt stop that. All I could see was his brain bouncing around in his head with punches Max was giving him! Hard to watch.

Max may not have KO power but lots of little punches just under KO power like that are even more dangerous long term than one shot KO power.

same, really wanted Max to win and he did. A great champion and probably now the best featherweight to do it. He's clearly a much different fighter than when he fought Conor. Would actually like to see that matchup at 155.

This, I think it's why a lot of boxers later on in life develop CTE symptoms. The extra padding on the boxing gloves sort of acts as a mechanism for preventing flash KOs, which means that fighters are probably fighting for 36 minutes with 70% of the shots landing straight on the head, now magnify that over the course of a career. But yeah that was hard to watch, I don't think I can recall any fight where somebody has taken a beating to the head that badly. I feel bad for Ortega because mentally and physically he was still ready to fight, his face and all that head trauma probably said otherwise and his life was saved by stopping that fight. IF it were any other fighter than Max (let's face it the guy has a god-tier chin and cardio) they probably would have wilted under Ortega's relentlessness to keep swinging after being hurt that badly.

I don't think Max's brain even registers what a KO is and just goes full on zombie mode in the octagon.

For some reason going into the fight I would've sworn up and down that Ortega would've had the size advantage.

Fukin Holloway is a big featherweight

Fights to make if max moves up:

Vs khabib: his only chance of not getting wrestle fukked is a KO, but don’t think he has enough power

Vs Conor : if the fight makes it past the 3rd round he’s golden. But Conor could very well starch him early on. I think he is one head nod away from early onset CTE

Vs Diaz: the battle of volume. Diaz is too big and has superior ground game.

Would be a cool fight but Zabit needs a looooooot of work climbing the ladder to even be considered fighting max. Just needs to prove himself with fighting any top 15 guy to see how he looks.
Korean Zombie, Lamas, Cub Swanson or Yair would be a perfect start. I would like to see the Yair fight since it was scheduled.

Waste of a fight. Zabit is overrated because he does flashy things. Holloway would wear him out in the first round and get a stoppage in the 2nd.

No way he walks around at 185. No hate but look at his build. Joe rogan and the UFC in general tend to over exaggerate fighters stats. I dont believe one fkn word from them anymore.

Holloway is 5'11 and looks to have a bird chest and 13" arms. No way he walks around at 185 unless it's all fat.

His standup does remind me of the Diaz brothers but better kicks, defense, and a bit more pop on his punches too considering his size. Max has been finishing top notch opponents. Aside from Nate beating a gassing Conor the Diaz brothers haven't done that to A-level competition.

I think plenty of FW appear bigger than Max. Sure he looks big compared to Jose and Frankie but if it weren't for the issues he had earlier this year nobody would be questioning whether or not cutting to 145 was something he should continue to do.

He's right what he said, he's different than when he fought Mcgregor

I don't think Mcgregor is an elite of the elite fighter, and I think Max is a much better fighter overall...but I do think Mcgregor vs Holloway would be a good fight

Well Conor beat him before he peaked.

then he got to a point about 2 years ago where he peaked and seemed to be able to maybe give Conor a run and maybe would have been good enough at that point.

but now after he suffered a stroke you can see he is physically a shadow of his former self, his mind body chi energy is incongruent. Something is off, the skill is still there but the smoothness is off.

Ortega wasnt in the same league skill wise but was doing heavy damage, if that had been Conor hitting him so much he would have been out. He looked weak and his core was weak.

2 years ago Holloway would have had a chance against 2 years ago Conor.

But as of now I think Conor would piece him up.

I'd think he is 170-175 in his off season, he does let himself go a little bit and gets a little chunky when he isn't fighting. Let's not forget he is 5'11, 170-175 lbs isn't that big for that height.

Yeah. Pre stroke Holloway and Conor 2 would've been fire. But as of now he would be easy pickings for conor. Especially at 155 where Conor has even more power. But it would still be an awesome fight regardless

yup. only conor has a way longer reach. let's be real, conor destroys dudes with dinosaur arms lol. he dominated max on one leg....everyone says max was young but conor was young too and both of them has improved. it would be interesting fight now, but like i said max is still good but it's obvious the "incident" affected him.

I honestly think Max destroys Conor in a re-match.

I think Connor is done personally. He's been lucky up to this point. He's a male version of Ronda.
