MISC Computer Science Discord Group

Decided to create a Discord to keep everyone who wants to learn comp sci together. It's mainly for CS fundamentals with web-dev & python, so algorithm/data structures, etc, but as we branch out & learn more we'll add more topics (free to talk about any language/tool).

Lmao, funny thing is when I tried logging in after not looking at the code for a while I realized I changed the password in the db so I had to create a new account and view the list of users (which also shows passwords, lol)

Howdy folks. Another day another dollar. I'm currently learning how to manipulate images using Python's Pillow library. Soon I'll be able to make my own bulk image converter, etc.

If you're aiming to get a job at the end. You should just plow through leetcode.

The logic and language understanding you need for those examples will be more useful for interviews than random ass projects.

I'm in. I work at a NOC but have a computer science degree and I am automating a bunch of our daily tasks here using Python. Average to slightly above average leetcoder. I can teach noobs, but if there are SWE pros in there I'll be asking questions more than anything.

Lets get it boyos.

Any Golang brahs in here? If there is another language I would take the time to learn it would probably be this given my current role and knowledge.

I find coding interesting & want to see what I can create. I definitely want a job as an SE, but if I can make cool things along the way then it's a plus. I heard leetcode is tough so I want to learn a bit more before I try working those problems. Surely I can knock out the first problem tho, right?

Dasitmane. I think we've got 1-3 professionals in there. I can also bring in kind folks from another platform who 100% work in the industry around the world (then they'd know my misc user lmao).

I heard Golang is super fast, but it's not OOP. I'm not familiar with it though. Maybe when I have a need for speed that Python can't fill I'll see what the hypes about.

Happy New Year, all. Currently learning the pathlib library so I get a better understanding of manipulating the file system. Have not been studying too much lately but each day I read and do a little something. If there's one thing I learned, it's important to know what type of data you're getting back, so you know your available options for using it. For example, pathlib gives an object of a directory in which you can use methods of that object to iterate through each item in the directory pull things like the name or extension (.jpg/.png/.exe...) You can even get individual parts of the path like "C:\\", "Users", "Username", "Desktop", "pr0n-folder", "big-hwhat-tats.jpg". Hoping to gain some inspiration for projects.

Starting next month, we'll be working on our first open-source project. As for what that'll be, we'll create a poll to decide.

I'm also creating a text-based tower/arena fighting game for the misc that should be released next month.

Apparently, it was a third-party Discord service called "discord.io" which allows users to create their own custom URL, that got breached. We're cheap over at the MISC CSD, so we aren't affected by that (i hope).
