I'm happy with our moves this offseason. We didn't break the bank on 1 person and jeopardize our future. Keep in mind Cam and Kuech is gonna get a fat contract within a year or 2. Our team finished the season strong. We upgraded our line majorly with Oher and Martin on our OL. I know hes they have had ups and downs but its really no comparison between him and Bell. Martin will be good especially since we have a strong and supportive lockerroom. Remmers also played well at RT to end the season so there is some solid depth at the position. Ginn will be a huge upgrade, we desperatly missed him stretching the field, plus him and Cam seemed to mesh well together. Boykin will be hit or miss but def has potential as a decent pass catcher. 2 years ago he had 50 catches for GB. Overall pretty pleased, we didnt need huge changes just some minor tweaks. Special teams got upgraded majorly this offseason. I now think we are in a position to draft the best available player.

What an awful 1st round pick. An undersized OLB who will never see the field unless Davis gets injured. Tons of pressing needs and they reach for ST guy.

He is basically the same size as TD. (6'1, 228 lbs vs. 6'1" 235 lbs) He is very good in coverage so he can play SS in Nickel and OLB in 4-3. They can play 4-3 moer instead of nickel every down now…also TD is 32 years old.

Of course the official Panthers site (& Rivera lol) is going to talk him up.

The guy may be a great player.. and if it turns out that he is, not much will be made of this.. but the simple fact remains; we made a luxury pick when we are in absolutely NO position to make luxury picks.

Cam damn near gets slaughtered last year, and because they made a run at the end of the season against poverty teams - everything is fine? I was going to consider this draft a failure if we didn't walk away with an OL or receiver in round 1.. so, yeah. They could have traded back a handful +/- spots, picked up an additional 3rd or even better depending how far we moved back, and still gotten him.

Hell, you couldn't convince me that this guy wouldn't have been available in the early 3rd.

So he's, at best, a future replacement for a weakside linebacker who can't rush the QB. You don't pick guys like that in the 1st round. There's just not huge value drafting guys like that early. Not when you don't have **** for a pass rush, no OL, and bad WR. Oh and holes at DB.

It's a terrible pick.

If the panthers draft offense in the next 2 rounds, I'll be fine with the pick. I'll prefer wide receiver in the 2nd and OT in the third.

Wouldn't mind Collins in third round. Doubt he's charged so get the talent.

I know I'd rather we have taken a decent chance OL player than an undersized OLB who can't rush the passer in the first round and not traded away our 3rd round pick for a WR.

I see Thompson more used as a Telvin Smith, Lavonte David, Kam Chancellor type role. Over-drafted compared to where all of them were, but it's who they wanted. Nothing you can do.

Funchess is another big body, ran a 4.47 at his proday (had a toe injury at combine), can line up in 2-TE sets (did this at Michigan), in the slot.

Don't understand calling it an atrocious draft when these kids haven't played yet.

I'm sorry but I think if another NFC South team made the moves the Panthers have we'd all be laughing at them. We reached in both rounds, haven't addressed the biggest need on the team, and no longer have a 3rd round pick. Yes, MAYBE all the moves work out. But I promise that every NFC South team (personnel and fans) love what we've done.

I definitely like the pick just not the trade of the 3rd rounder but I guess they had to get in front of the Falcons and Saints who could have taken him.
Funchess is like a faster Kelvin Benjamin. Same size, same height as KB. I don't think any secondary can cover 3 guys at 6'5" especially no secondary in the NFCS.

Not me. I've wanted Shaq Thompson for a good month now. In the 2nd round, where I didn't think we would have gotten him at 57, but I wanted him. I understand what they're doing with him.

I honesty had no idea who Funchess was until I bought a draft magazine. I haven't watched a Michigan football game in a few years. Tweets are coming out that GMan and Rivera had a 1st round grade on him, and the Saints and Falcons also wanted to draft him. Don't think they are laughing at that.

I'm hoping we trade up into the 3rd. Don't mind giving up the 6th at all. We can't keep 9 rookies on the roster, and I figured we would get rid of a pick or two somehow in the draft… just didn't expect a 3rd. That sucks.

2 things:

1. it's already been said but he is NOT undersized. same size as Thomas Davis and Lavonte David. those guys are pretty damn good
2. we play a 4-3, not a 3-4 and we need our LBs to cover, rather than rush all the time. Shaq can cover and he has speed to blitz, if needed

Fuk we were one pick away from DGB, one fuking pick. Just like Humphries yesterday.

We need some speed at receiver, we are still slower than molasses, and at this point their isn't ant tackles left.

A little, yeah.

I'm surprised Jay Ajayi has fallen to the 4th round. Really hope the Panthers can pick him up.

TJ Clemmings and La'el Collins.

Also Rashad Greene, Justin Hardy, Stefon Diggs, Kenny Bell still on the board.

These are just the players I know and like. Talent still to be had in the 4th and 5th rounds.

WEAKNESSES Play strength is a major concern. Struggles to free himself from press coverage and can be taken completely out of his routes. Runs sloppy, rounded routes. Fails to set up his breaks and frequently leads cornerbacks to his destination. Slow to adjust routes and find open space against zone. Fails to create the separation that is potentially available for him at top of routes. Rarely looks to body up cornerbacks and keep them out of the throw. Suspect work ethic. Awareness of footwork near sideline an issue. Considered a problem child at Missouri. Suspended twice by Missouri and arrested twice for marijuana-related incidents. Kicked off team at Missouri in April 2014 after details of his alleged role in an alleged burglary were released by Columbia, Mo., police. He allegedly shoved a female student down some stairs during the alleged incident, but no charges were filed. Missed entire 2014 season.
