Kelvin Benjamin turning ducks into highlight reels. I don't think this guy will have a sophomore slump. Dude seems beyond focused and is poised for a 1500/15 season. If Funchess has the season that KB had last year, and Olsen stays Olsen, our offense has good things coming.

Any news on CJ? I heard he got carted off with an ankle?
Also I saw a picture of cam and josh norman in a scuffle? Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.

CJ didn't practice today b/c of sore calf. from Panthers twitter
The Cam/Norman thing apparently had been building up all week b/c of trash talk and I guess Cam didn't like that Norman gave him a stiff arm to the face when he was chasing him down

The only reason our defense should be decent next year is due to another year together with solid pieces. Josh Norman is not on a Luke Keuchly or Thomas Davis status yet. He tries to be, and I appreciate his effort on bringing intensity to practices.
That being said he is a punk. Completely overrated, for now. He has been hyped for years, yet no one outside of Carolina knows his name. The only way I will like this guy is if he turns into a stud, which he can. If he ever gets to that level, he will be hated by the entire NFL except the Panthers.
However, for now, he talks way too much trash for who he is.

On the other hand, I like that Norman isn't soft. That's the worst personality to have on any team.
And that fact that Cam Newton had a big fat fkn smile on his face while having Josh Norman in doggystyle position means that he's ready to go this season.

Hyped for years? Wasn't last season his second year, and nobody hypes him. How is he overrated when nobody talks about him?
He wasn't even starting the majority of the season, Cason, White and Decoud where the ones getting burned. At the end of the season we went up against two of the best offenses in the NFL, he completely shut down Julio, when Julio was on a tear.

He's hyped by local media (Panthers.com) Every offseason. The past few years always include an article on him breaking out. Despite that, he hasn't started a whole season despite us having garbage cornerbacks for the most part in the past few years.
The end of last year was promising for him. He is super fiery. Always in your face. He has the personality that division and league rivals love to hate. However, I just wish he did 16 games of what he did to Julio before getting involved in a training camp fight.
In all honesty, I haven't liked him since he took out Josh Bakers ACL in preseason a few years ago. I am very sure that is the reason for my saltiness towards Josh Norman.

Who watched this? I just saw highlights.
Cam Newton - Was he rusty at first? I just saw the 1/6 start but he seemed to get it together afterwards. Wonderful sideline pass to Ted Ginn against collapsing coverage. However, I was simply following on gamecast. Was Cam Newtons TD drive against 2nd teamers?
Funchess - 2 catches 4 targets 53 yards. He had a very nice over the shoulder on the sideline grab against great coverage. If he makes catches like his first one throughout all of preseason, he should be our #2 receiver.
Kelvin Benjamin is poised for greatness this year.
Bersin with a nice TD grab. I hope he gets a spot.
Didn't really get to see the defense play, so can't really elaborate.
What were yalls impressions?

- Offense was rusty at first but also was running vanilla as hell plays. I think the first TD came against a bunch of 2nd team Buffalo D, but I'm not sure.
- Pass protection OL looked fine in the small sample size, which was a pleasant surprise
- Pass rush looked iffy from what I saw, but no CJ
- KB looked REALLY good. Didn't see Funchess but heard he played well.
- I can't believe I'm saying this but I kind of like KB, Funchess, Brown, Ginn as our 4 WR…
The last 5 min were actually really entertaining with the 3rd teamers. Webb leading the team down and the screen pass for a TD. Then getting the 2 point conversion. Cam with his terrible leadership celebrating with the team

Sounds like we'll get to see Shaq Thompson this weekend for the first time so long as his hammy doesn't have issues. Rumor has it they may show some of the packages they're planning to use with him.
Hopefully another DE steps up so there will be some pressure from the DL this year.

Well guys, we all have heard the terrible news about KB, and while it sucks, I am just going to provide some reasoning why we shouldn't be completely giving up on the year.
The only reason I think we should be upset about KB being out for the year is the potentially HUGE problems that our offense can create for defenses ESPECIALLY if Devin Funchess pans out the way he should. Cam Newton is 6'6 250 and can run and throw for the most part. Devin Funchess and KB would've been nearly 13 feet and 480 lbs of WR that can run, jump, and catch. We have a proven top 5 catching TE in the league. We have 2 bulldozers of a RB, and CAP who can potentially be a nice change of pace back.
If our O-Line is solid, that offense would have created so many mismatches, and any above average game by Cam would lead to potentially crazy offensive production. No one wouldve stopped us in the redzone because every skill position we have is a fkn bulldozer. Not to mention the amount of finesse that most of our players have.
Now that KB is gone, and while that does suck, it leaves the door open for our WRs. The WR battle in camp was intense with KB on the field, and now its even more because it opens another spot and most will now see playing time. How bad do you think Bersin wants to prove himself? Philly Brown showed spurts of awesomeness last year and his camp has been going pretty well. While Ted Ginn has always underachieved in the WR department, Cam and him do have chemistry. Its a skill position. Its not like Ryan Kalil who anchors an entire team of offensive lineman. If he is out for the year, that is much more detrimental.
Cam Newton also now acknowledges that he is on a big contract with his stud WR out. He has to take a lot of responsibility now. And to be quite honest, his image has increased ten-fold since college. Everyone thought he was going to be some thug, but he is always saying the right things, and minus a scruffle with Josh Norman, he pretty much has a perfect track record here in Carolina. He is truly becoming a professional.
We have an arguably best LB core in the league, a supposed solid CB in Josh Norman and a proven veteran in Tillman. Shaq Thompson is an exciting new addition and Tre Boston should be solid with another year under him at FS(That is how its going to work right?)
And How well have we been drafting Lately? Luke Keuchly, Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short, Kelvin Benjamin, Cam Newton being our early picks the past few years. We have hit hard on these. Why shouldn't Devin Funchess pan out? He already looks good, is doing well at camp, has played every WR position in our lineup, and made some nice grabs in preseason week #1.
If our defense keeps us in games, we will be fine this season. My biggest worry is that our end of the season schedule last year was cake, and that might have been the reason why our defense was ranked so well in the final stages of the year.
Having Kelvin Benjamin out is terrible. He was a potential top 5 WR candidate for this year, especially with how many other players who could cause problems. However, we still have a solid QB, a Kelvin Benjamin clone in Funchess if he pans out, plenty of hungry WRs looking to prove themselves, and a super fking powerful running attack. Our O-Line is going to be the reason of our offensive success. It was not going to be Benjamin. Benjamin would've had the statistical output of a star and more than likely a probowl if the O-line played well. However, that was not the case.
People will pick up KBs slack. Olsen will still be Olsen. Cam will still be Cam. Our WRs are a mess right now due to the lack of proven receivers, but someone will pan out. Someone always does. This is a huge opportunity for the rest of our WR staff. We will be fine. Funchess is doing so well in camp and will come into his own.
We have Jacksonville, Houston and NO at home to start the season off. If there are three teams to start the year off with, those are not bad.
@Jax - W
Houston - W
New Orleans - W
@Bucs - W
@ Seattle - W/L
Eagles - W/L
Colts MNF - W/L
Packers - W/L
@Titans - W
Redskins - W
@Cowboys - W/L
@Saints - W/L
Falcons - W
@NYG - W/L
@Falcons - W/L
Bucs - W
Anything with a W/L is a game that I can see going either way. I do not see any outright losses on the Panthers Schedule. The closest thing is when we visit Seattle, but I mean every year we play them and usually its a game. If the Panthers play mistake free against them, we can win. If we are clicking on all cylinders, we can be as high as 14-2. If everything fails, then 7-9 could very well be the result. However, our schedule isn't terribly difficult, and IMO, if we take down the Colts and Packers in back to back weeks, that could set us up for a hell of a year. Lots of IFs, but every successful team has to prove themselves in a bunch of difficult games.
Still a lot to look forward to boys. The season is nowhere near done yet.

Obviously the loss of KB is killer. But it certainly doesn't tor**** the year. Funchess is going to have to step up quickly and be a threat, Brown and Ginn are going to have to produce, and our OL has to be better. If those things happen the offense can be effective enough to be a decent team.
But man KB was looking good.

I like to be optimistic about this offense, but am really finding it hard now. I really hope this is just a front.
I like how CAP looks, and I like how the offensive line was able to hold up Miamis beast D-Line.
I hate how Cam looks. I think he is holding back on running to stay healthy which is smart, but his throws look same ol'.
Defense looks good but sloppy as well. Shaq Thompson looks like solid choice.
