Idk why but I'm really bummed we didn't try and acquire Vernon Davis. I know he's not exactly a star, but neither was Jeremy Shockey. One of my favorite offenses in the teams history was the Shockey/Olsen offense.
If Rivera said he was satisfied with our corps then I guess that means no moves will be made. :/ this team isn't going to do anything in the playoffs without more weapons.

It's always hard to know what WR are actually available. They're so hard to integrate without a camp that I just don't see a pickup now really helping out this year.

Rivera and Gmen wont risk a move like that this year.
If we wanna go deep,
Our receivers simply HAVE to stop being potato and letting down our offense when the game is on the line.
I like our Defense against the Packers in our house next week.
It's a very winnable game if our offense can get rolling and extend drives running the ball which result in a TD.

Was it just me, or was TD non-existent last night? Not sure I even remember hearing his name called for a tackle or putting pressure on Luck (which is what he excels at). Anyone know if something is/was up or was it just one of those games?

Well guys, we all have heard the terrible news about KB, and while it sucks, I am just going to provide some reasoning why we shouldn't be completely giving up on the year.
The only reason I think we should be upset about KB being out for the year is the potentially HUGE problems that our offense can create for defenses ESPECIALLY if Devin Funchess pans out the way he should. Cam Newton is 6'6 250 and can run and throw for the most part. Devin Funchess and KB would've been nearly 13 feet and 480 lbs of WR that can run, jump, and catch. We have a proven top 5 catching TE in the league. We have 2 bulldozers of a RB, and CAP who can potentially be a nice change of pace back.
If our O-Line is solid, that offense would have created so many mismatches, and any above average game by Cam would lead to potentially crazy offensive production. No one wouldve stopped us in the redzone because every skill position we have is a fkn bulldozer. Not to mention the amount of finesse that most of our players have.
Now that KB is gone, and while that does suck, it leaves the door open for our WRs. The WR battle in camp was intense with KB on the field, and now its even more because it opens another spot and most will now see playing time. How bad do you think Bersin wants to prove himself? Philly Brown showed spurts of awesomeness last year and his camp has been going pretty well. While Ted Ginn has always underachieved in the WR department, Cam and him do have chemistry. Its a skill position. Its not like Ryan Kalil who anchors an entire team of offensive lineman. If he is out for the year, that is much more detrimental.
Cam Newton also now acknowledges that he is on a big contract with his stud WR out. He has to take a lot of responsibility now. And to be quite honest, his image has increased ten-fold since college. Everyone thought he was going to be some thug, but he is always saying the right things, and minus a scruffle with Josh Norman, he pretty much has a perfect track record here in Carolina. He is truly becoming a professional.
We have an arguably best LB core in the league, a supposed solid CB in Josh Norman and a proven veteran in Tillman. Shaq Thompson is an exciting new addition and Tre Boston should be solid with another year under him at FS(That is how its going to work right?)
And How well have we been drafting Lately? Luke Keuchly, Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short, Kelvin Benjamin, Cam Newton being our early picks the past few years. We have hit hard on these. Why shouldn't Devin Funchess pan out? He already looks good, is doing well at camp, has played every WR position in our lineup, and made some nice grabs in preseason week #1.
If our defense keeps us in games, we will be fine this season. My biggest worry is that our end of the season schedule last year was cake, and that might have been the reason why our defense was ranked so well in the final stages of the year.
Having Kelvin Benjamin out is terrible. He was a potential top 5 WR candidate for this year, especially with how many other players who could cause problems. However, we still have a solid QB, a Kelvin Benjamin clone in Funchess if he pans out, plenty of hungry WRs looking to prove themselves, and a super fking powerful running attack. Our O-Line is going to be the reason of our offensive success. It was not going to be Benjamin. Benjamin would've had the statistical output of a star and more than likely a probowl if the O-line played well. However, that was not the case.
People will pick up KBs slack. Olsen will still be Olsen. Cam will still be Cam. Our WRs are a mess right now due to the lack of proven receivers, but someone will pan out. Someone always does. This is a huge opportunity for the rest of our WR staff. We will be fine. Funchess is doing so well in camp and will come into his own.
We have Jacksonville, Houston and NO at home to start the season off. If there are three teams to start the year off with, those are not bad.

Anything with a W/L is a game that I can see going either way. I do not see any outright losses on the Panthers Schedule. The closest thing is when we visit Seattle, but I mean every year we play them and usually its a game. If the Panthers play mistake free against them, we can win. If we are clicking on all cylinders, we can be as high as 14-2. If everything fails, then 7-9 could very well be the result. However, our schedule isn't terribly difficult, and IMO, if we take down the Colts and Packers in back to back weeks, that could set us up for a hell of a year. Lots of IFs, but every successful team has to prove themselves in a bunch of difficult games.
Still a lot to look forward to boys. The season is nowhere near done yet.

To win every game so far is a combination of good play, both offensively and defensively, but also learning how to close games, all while taking advantage of some luck. I'm just concerned about us playing good football for 60 minutes every game.

We can take a few losses just from some bs that happens. I thought the refs were giving away the Colts game, and it can be as simple as a few missed calls by the refs, but I also did not like how the Panthers just tried to bleed the clock. Every time they do that (And it has been so many times these past 3 years), we milk out just enough time for them to tie/take the lead and for us to run a 2 minute for a game winning drive.
Every single game from now on, we can win. Will we? I doubt it. Every Sunday we will be the favorite (Except this week and @ Dallas). However, GB is different away, and a home field advantage adds a lot of power to our side. Charlotte is a fkn electric city right now and with every win, the city becomes a lot more exciting.
That being said, I think we lose one week solely to the fact that I personally think that our WRs will just suck it all up for one game and we'll put up 3 pts. If not, I think that is a huge credit to Cam for displaying the confidence in his WRs. They screw Cam over so much, and sometimes Cam screws them up, but the rate of getting screwed is so much more for Newton. That dropped ball ftw by Ted Ginn in OT was Cam's career in a nutshell.
However, all we can look at is the results.
7-0
4th in PPG (27.3) Only worse than NE, Arizona, and Cinci/ Better than GB and Denver.
10th in DPPG(19.3)
Our defense is good, and is responsible for some points we scored, but at the end of the day, our offense has to put up points to be ranked 4th in PPG.
I'm worried about the following:
1) I like our defense, but we are not great. We're 9th in PPG, and I think that sounds about right. I think that our offense is underrated, and defense is overrated. Our run D is above average, our pass d is above average, but I think they are able to be picked apart, and when that happens, I see our defense collapsing.
^I'm not necessarily worried at this point of the year, but in the playoffs. If we successfully execute our bend but don't break defense, we will do well. Not great, but good enough to fight for a win. The problem is that we will be playing the best players at this point playing their best football. We will not be able to stop Aaron Rodgers when he is on fire, or someone like Carson Palmer, or Tom Brady. They'll pick apart our offense, and then they'll be able to run and play unpredictably.
2) Receivers dropping balls. Cam's best target, Greg Olsen, will sometimes drop balls. That is ridiculous considering the WR staff they have. Everyone overrates Olsen's ability. I think he is a top 5 TE, and probably the 2nd best now that Graham and Julius aren't doing anything, but its not like he's 2nd in a LeBron vs Kobe argument. There is a severe dropoff in the TE talent pool after Gronkowski. He is the unanimous #1 TE. He is in his own league. The talent pool is a lot closer after Gronkowski is eliminated.
I feel that up to this point, we entertain them just because we're winning. In the playoffs, every mistake is magnified, and there are a lot of potential mistakes to be made in our WR core. Combine that with the random errant throw by Cam, and it COULD be ugly.
That being said, no team is perfect, and every team has issues, and our issues are very manageable considering our style of play.
I think we can go 16-0 in the regular season. I don't think we'll do it, but 14-2 sounds good right now. I think we lose GB/Dallas/NO/1 Atlanta game at most. 12-4 Worst. 16-0 best. So I'll go 14-2. We lose 2 close ones.
I think we lose in the Superbowl to Tom Brady again. I think that it is super possible to lose our first playoff game, and in many ways I see that. If any QB goes off that we play (Ryan, Romo, Eli, Rodgers, Carson Palmer, Bridgewater is now good) we won't get in the way enough. However, I just don't see a real complete team in the NFC. We are the closest thing to one, and are built the right way. Minnesota could make some noise too.

Gotta disagree with our defense being overrated. We're #2 in defensive DVOA, although FAR behind Denver and slightly overrated because of the Saints game without Brees. But it's easily top 4. Our offense is always underrated because the raw stats usually aren't good but our efficiency is very good. We play slowly so our yards/game isn't good but our yards/play is basically middle of the road.
Now crazzy to think about : if we win against GB we'd have a 2 game lead on Atlanta for the division, a 2 game lead on Arizona, and a 3 game lead on GB for the #1 seed in the NFC. And our schedule is way easier than GB or Zona.
