God is definitely real and being honest? Some religious groups are more accurate than others but none of them have it exactly right. Often times religion comes into conflict with science and won’t even bend to come more in line. There are definitely issues with some religious ideals If you take them explicitly and at face value rather than metaphorically, especially when you’re talking about comparisons with modern science. Be that as it may be that does not mean that there isn’t value to all of them, religion in general or that religion isn’t a positive thing. At it’s philosophical core religion is meant to guide society in ways that law can’t or shouldn’t and it does it’s job, though it could be better.

They don’t ghost but yea it’s probably because they aren’t evaluating me as a long term candidate so they don’t get upset that I’m Christian.

Are you saying it's delusional to believe a mortal human can ascend and become God ruling over their own domain. This is how they believe the God of this reality came to be.

Religion is important because it plays on how human psychology works. Heaven and Hell is a way to control peoples' behavior - to obtain something or to lessen something. It's no different than rewarding someone for doing something good or punishing them for doing bad irl.

Its a structured way to live life. Without it, you're just free flowing.

I love all of you. Even the non believers. Now, I am supposed to witness and disciple, and I try sometimes. Sometimes I fail. Sometimes I don't at all. And I'll have to answer for that. But in the end, we're all brothers and should be fishers of men

I'm a sinner, and would be a hypocrite to hate any of you, now like I said I should disciple, but I should also be your keeper. So I'm gonna rep randomly

Again, looking at this at a surface level. The bibles underlying message is equality, we are all made equal in Gods image. That’s what makes you different from a pig.

As for Orwell’s quote, lol, that’s not a byproduct of religion. That’s a byproduct of nature, animal nature, no one is truly equal. You and I have an ego that would have ourselves be higher on that dominance hierarchy. However, the underlying message of “there is God and we are all his children” may have just been enough to reign that ego in for us to treat each other with respect as human beings, well, because all humans are gods children.

That’s the message, remove yourself from the bias of hatred against the bible or whatever and look at the psychological effect that could have.

Your argument is similar to saying that marriage is bad because it ends in divorce most of the time. Well, ye, but not the concept of it. And as for the book being outdated, of course it is, it was written 2000 years ago, it doesn’t change the fact that it had a message that guided us.

If you get rid of a religion, another will surface in religious dimensions. Today, people are getting very religious about their political beliefs for example.

The world simply cannot exist without a religion, more than likely, societal evolution will manifest its own, and if you throw the baby out with the bath water, you might usher in a disastrous set of religion. Think of the bloody genocides in the 20th century.

And the rebuttal to that is always, hurr durr religion caused wars. Nobody said religion was perfect or that it’s even suppose to have a good outcome. Religion is simply a set of stories, belief system, dogma or not, that we universally follow. The judea-Christian religion for the most part is good, specially for something written 2000 years+ ago but it doesn’t mean that people can’t bastardise it.

Blaming religion for those atrocities is akin to blaming trump for KKK members today.

As for the Muslim thing. Islam is a perfect example actually. Imagine being a person living in a desert 1300 years ago. There’s suffering, people are dying, women are raped and beaten etc. It’s pure suffering.

They tell a story, that there is heaven beyond all this suffering but in this life you have to do good. A sense of purpose. They have to marry their women, so now someone has to take care of their children.

The stories told basically guide society to thrive, and without it, it would have probably collapsed. The evidence is that no society has ever existed for a length of time that did NOT have a religion of some sort.

And if you think you’re good just because, you have too large an ego.

Honestly, why don’t you kill a man to get what you want? You’d kill a chicken? Why the chicken and not man? What is so “secular” about that?

Why do good? What is good? Who told you it was good and why did they say it is good?

You seem to think religion is specifically about the magical stories of witches or going to church and whatnot, rather than psychological effect it has on people which underpins society.

Western civilisation is only secular in practice. The psychological foundation of it is still very religious, based on judea-Christian ideals. That will wear off over the next 50 years.

You see this in real life too. You meet a Christian Mexican woman, extremely religious, very indoctrinated. She taught her daughter and and her daughter grew up hearing all the Christian ideals. Daughter has a Very conservative views on sex, marriage etc. But she doesn’t pray every day nor even go to church. Her daughter, the granddaughter Millennial is even less religious but she has also grown up with somewhat Christian values, still has casual sex but hasn’t quite degenmax.

Now the tiktoker genz meanwhile seems completely washed from all that, didnt get any religious lectures as a kid. However, still largely influenced by society which in itself was influenced by religion.

You can write off religious practices into law overnight and you can even ban it’s practice overnight too. The psychological effects won’t be felt for decades at least and societies won’t feel it for centuries.

Rome didn’t fall in a day when it was clearly already at its end, took 300+ years.
Some historians of Rome think its adoption of Christianity played a part in the downfall of the western empire (and there were other factors too of course, but this is relevant to the present discussion).

You are saying a lot of words, but nothing really addressing the main point of my post, namely that the bible does not offer this dreamy picture of everyone being equal. There are so many passages within the bible literally saying that women are inferior, slaves are inferior, and other groups of people being inferior. It's a compilation of texts written in a tribal, more primitive time where people were far removed from present day concepts of equality, political rights and freedoms. You say Judeo-Christianity is the foundation of western civ....it's actually got quite more to do with other historical developments such as Greeks and Romans, and later with changing movements in popular thought, with the enlightenment period, and scientific progress. You can take this a step further and say basic items like domestication, written language, law and order are what civilization in general really rests upon. Without domestication and agriculture we'd still be in the hunter and gatherer tribes humans have been in for over 99% of human history during the paleolithic.

I think it is very telling that you could be transported to, say 1200 c.e Christianized europe....and most likely barely recognize the societal structure and civilization. Much of present day freedoms nowhere to be seen, clear inequality, harsh conditions, etc. This is a sign thatjust maybeit's not this religion pinning everything down and responsible for modern western civ, but maybe there is something else going on here....such as progress in some of those secular notions mentioned above.

None of this is getting into the truth of statements like "God created man equal in his image" (not supported by much of the bible's content)....the statement is almost nonsensical from the view point of modern biology- since man wasnt created at all, but rather just the product of evolution from ancestral hominoid/primate species. Funny enough though, now that science has figured out that man wasnt the result of some special creation in God's image, we didnt somehow magically lose the notion that we are still all humans, with equality and personal liberty, protections from govts, and capable of behaving ethically. You dont need a mythical story to arrive at these sorts of humanist conclusions.

It is not a surprise cultures both present and past typically have religions- of course it's natural human behavior to tell stories and and try to explain the unknown. This doesnt mean the religion is the reason for the culture or society- there is so much else going on here. Your post is saying a lot of other stuff, but dont really have a desire to respond to it all....I disagree largely with it.
