he's absolutely annihilating everything in front of him at the Senior Bowl, but as one person described it, he might be one of those "contract season" type players. However, UNC has had quitet a few players, especially on defense, who are absolutely shining at the Senior Bowl, and with all the turmoil that team had this season, who really knows?

distinct possibility. 4-3 DE, not sure he is really a 3-4 OLB type
Yeah, I think we have ONE guy who could translate to the 3-4 without issues, and that's Dan Connor. Seems to have the right size/etc. However he won't be here next year Also pretty confident Beason could make the transition smoothly but (when healthy) he is arguably the best 4-3 MLB in the NFL, why switch positions when it's working? if we could just get a solid interior linemen, just someone who plays at an average level, our defense would improve significantly. over the past couple seasons our interior linemen have been absolute ****ing trash and the worst in the NFL by far.

agree on your DTs. That's why I end up mocking DL on each of the first 2 rounds to you. I just can't see anywhere else you need nearly as much help.

It just sucks because I don't really see a big time impact defensive linemen in the draft. All have pretty big question marks and it's scary thinking about reaching for one in the top 10 because it's the biggest need. Are there any Von Miller type LBers in the draft? LB isn't quite as big of a need as an interior linemen, but it's definitely a need considering Thomas Davis is probably done. He's trying to make a come back, and will be given a chance under a restructured deal, but 3 straight tears… yeah, not gonna happen. really sad too, before the injury bug hit him he was probably one of the best WLB's in the NFL .

The only thing that gives me comfort is this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...nd_draft_picks

Find a bust in that list. There are a couple guys who have fallen due to injuries, but every pick at one point in time has played at a very high level. Hurney's track record in the first round is ****ing impressive and I'll trust whoever he picks.

you mean are there any scheme-independent LBs who will put up a serious challenge to the rookie sack record while demonstrating outstanding instincts, incredible explosion and speed, and the ability to cover and play the run like a top tier veteran?

uh…no.

Haha I meant like, a stud LB. Obviously you're not going to find guys like Miller every year, but like the can't miss will be very good type LBs.

and as for the first round draft busts, I meant since Hurney took over IIRC he took over as GM in 2002 after the Peppers pick.

Peppers, Jordan Gross, Chris Gamble, Thomas Davis*, DeAngelo Williams, Jon Beason, Jonathan Stewart, Jeff Otah*, Cam.

* is for Otah and Davis, who when healthy were among the best in the league at their respective positions before injuries.

And no, Panthers don't have much cap space at all. Remember, last offseason we locked up most of the roster long term.

Ryan Kalil, Jon Beason, Charles Johnson, Charles Godfrey, DeAngelo Williams, Greg Olsen, Thomas Davis all received big time contracts. We're going to have to restructure some deals and cut some guys to get under the cap. I remember reading on the Panthers forum that after we sign all our draft picks we will be JUST under the cap.

and a pic from the pro bowl that made me lulz

Winning is contagious, it's a thought, it's not something that just happens on Sundays. That's something, you have to live like a winner, you have to think like a winner, you have to eat like a winner. Everything that you do regarding life, is a winner. You see it all the time, people that don't even have to say anything, they walk into a room and say…whew…I don't know that dude right there, but he's something, he's a winner.

If your team isn't in the playoffs next year, Cam Newton you've failed yourself

Thomas Davis is going to try another comeback. Had 3rd reconstructive surgery.

Thomas Davis injured his knee during the second game of the season. An MRI would later reveal his third ACL tear on the same knee. Despite his ultimately unsuccessful attempts to come back from ACL reconstruction on two prior occasions, Davis thinks he is going to make history.

Dr. James Andrews performed his most recent surgery and instead of using tendons from the apparently broken down knee, "Andrews took the patellar tendon from Davis' left knee to rebuild his right ACL. The knee is solid as a rock," Davis said. "Those were (Andrews') words."

According to the Panthers' trainer, Ryan Vermillion, no player has ever returned from three ACL reconstructions to the same knee. Davis is using the challenge to motivate himself as he rehabs. Also motivating him is the likelihood that the Panthers cut him before he is due an $8 million bonus on March 14. "The popular thinking is the Panthers will cut Davis rather than pay the bonus, and bring him back on a deal with much less guaranteed money."

This is just one of many similar stories in the NFL. While the specific details change from the player to player, the theme is constant. A player perpetually runs the risk of not only physical injury but unemployment—or at least in this case—receiving much, much less money than initially agreed upon. It's a difficult balance to achieve when the one commodity owners and fans depend on can be rendered useless so easily without a moment's notice. Football is the one sport where it simultaneously makes no sense and all the sense in the world that contracts are not guaranteed.

I'd be fine bringing him in on a vet min. deal after we release him. If anything I'd like to keep him around as he's a great guy to have in the locker room and has been a model Panther since joining.

Damn shame he got hit with the injury bug. So much talent

So we lost the coin toss which means we're picking at #9 overall. Hope we can manage to trade down, maybe pick up an extra second rounder.

Here's to hoping this is the last top 10 pick we'll have for the next decade.

I'm not gonna pretend like I know a lot about prospects, so what's the deal with him? Is he someone that's going to be able to start and provide an immediate impact?

I just want more early picks because we have so many damn needs. Interior linemen, WLB, S, #2 CB are all needs. Those are just for defense too, we need help on the OL too.

But seriously, freakshow. I've not seen anything like that. We'll see if it translates as well as it should but damn the numbers by themselves are scary.

Kinda on the same boat when it comes to trading down. In 2007 we traded out of the #14 spot and ended up with Jon Beason and Ryan Kalil with the picks we received in the trade. Obv that's not going to happen again, but trading down may be the best option here.

not enough cash for both…Nicks would be good though. would be prefer Brandon Carr though as a FA

i'm starting to think Panthers should draft Reiff with the #9 if he is there. then they could either put him at RT and move Otah inside at RG or put Reiff at LT, move Gross to RT and Otah to RG

OL of Reiff Schwartz Kalil Otah Gross would be be beast

i'm starting to think Panthers should draft Reiff with the #9 if he is there. then they could either put him at RT and move Otah inside at RG or put Reiff at LT, move Gross to RT and Otah to RG

OL of Reiff Schwartz Kalil Otah Gross would be be beast
I'd think they cut Otah.

Wharton is more in jeopardy of being cut for Cap reasons than Otah is in general. I think moving Otah inside could actually help his career
