Plus Otah is on a cheap deal and is in a contract year. Cutting him would provide minimal cap relief and it's almost risk free to just let him play out his contract.

OT at #9 wouldn't upset me. It is looking like we may stumble into a decent DT with our 2nd round pick, so I'd be fine with it. If Reiff is the best player on the board take him.

i'm starting to think Panthers should draft Reiff with the #9 if he is there. then they could either put him at RT and move Otah inside at RG or put Reiff at LT, move Gross to RT and Otah to RG

OL of Reiff Schwartz Kalil Otah Gross would be be beast
If Reiff was somehow available @ #9, the Panthers would probably trade back. There are teams especially the Cardinals that really need a LT.

Trade down and get:
DE Ingram/Perry
DT Brockers/Poe/Cox/Still
LB Upshaw/Kuechly/Z.Brown
CB Jenkins/Kirkpatrick

Who do you think gets restructured/cut to make cap room?

I hope Steve Smith gets restructured/extended to lessen the cap hit on his current deal. Jordan Gross might be a candidate as well.

I see Wharton getting cut because he is way overpaid. He's decent, nothing special but not a liability at LG or anything, but $7.7m dollars to "nothing special" LG is way too much. Olindo Mare AND Jason Baker should be cut, even though IIRC both cuts will provide minimal cap relief. That's besides the point though, because they're both terrible. Also think Jimmy Clausen is as good as gone.

Panthers just signed kicker Justin Medlock to a 3 year deal. Given it's a 3 year deal I doubt this is just camp fodder and we may be seeing a "Mare released" headline sooner rather than later.

I hope we are able to bring Wharton back. I understand releasing him because he was wayyy overpaid, but he is still a good player. Not great, but keeping a respectable OL is crucial to Cammy Cam's development.

Otah is apparently 100% healthy and feeling great. If there is any year to feel good about him staying healthy it's this one; his contract year. He'll def be trying harder than normal to get a big pay day next year, even though I think whether he is healthy or not he won't be back in Charlotte after next year.

Not even scared of the Buccaneers additions. Saints officials made it seem like Carl Nicks is going to get paid and stop trying, and like them or not they have been pretty damn good evaluating talent in recent years so I trust them on that. Vincent Jackson is scary, but again it will depend on Josh Freeman remembering how to play football, and he was Jimmy Clausen-bad last season.

As for the draft… If Claiborne somehow falls to us, hnnngghhhh.

Incredible combine numbers but lackluster collegiate career numbers (in a shoddy football conference, too)… I'm not big on gambling with early picks so I'd prefer we go a different route… but with the way we've hit almost all of our early picks in recent years I will trust whatever call is made… I'm still feeling guilty about doubting Cam.

Poe had ridiculous combine numbers so he might be the first DT drafted but I'd rather have:

I personally wan't Poe, we haven't been stout up front since Kris Jenkins. We are in a pretty tough position at 9, there is no clear cut guy to take unless someone like Claiborne drops to us, they all have questions. Janoris Jenkins is good if he isn't getting in trouble, can Poe match his combine numbers on the field because he didn't at Memphis, Coples plays when he wants like Julius Peppers, do we want that again? The safest pick would be probably the tackle out of Iowa, but I'm not ready to give up on Otah personally.

almost? Gross, Gamble, Davis, DWill, Beason, Stewart, Otah, Cammy Cam

The only ones you could even argue as "misses" are David & Otah, but it's impossible to predict injuries. Both Davis and Otah played at a VERY high level when they were healthy. Just unfortunate injuries set them back.

I too feel guilty about the Cam pick, but I'm pretty sure I said I would trust whoever Hurney selected because the guy is literally perfect at evaluating first round talent.

Yeah, Reiff is definitely a safe pick and arguably the BPA if he's on the board when we're selecting. Could Otah maybe slide over to guard if we do get Reiff? I don't know. Interior d-line is and has definitely been the biggest need for years. Our pass rush will continue to be lackluster no matter how good C-Johnson/Hardy/etc are because we get virtually zero pressure from the inside and every quarterback we face just steps up when the edge guys get there.

This…. besides, name the last big time free agent the Panthers gambled on and it paid off. Hurney has ALWAYS stayed away from the first day free agent frenzy, and I love that about him. Wait until the preseason cuts start rolling in, that's where we are most active.

To add onto that, name the last time a team went crazy on free agents and lived up to the hype.

by the way, these are the free agent signings I love to see.

Former Vikings LB Kenny Onatolu and former Ravens safety Haruki Nakamura were both signed to 3 year deals. Both are considered special teams aces. Factor that in with releasing Jason Baker and the inevitable release of Mare, our special teams is getting a serious overhaul, and rightfully so. Love it.

Plus, Barnidge will be back and he was always a fantastic ST's player. It's why I want us to bring back Shockey instead of throwing Barnidge into the #2 role. I'd prefer he stay a primarily ST guy that occasionally steps in to give Olsen/Shockey some rest.

What do y'all think about the signing of Tolbert? At first I was like WTF are you doing Hurney, but after seeing the contract number I'm liking it more and more. He is gonna be playing fullback and we are paying him like one, so its not like we broke that bank, but this dude is versatile and another weapon for Cam. I can see Chud using him in an H-Back role and I read somewhere that there could be packages that would have J-Stew, D-Will, and Tolbert in the field at the same time. Dude is also reeks havoc on special teams, which is a plus.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing Otah a guard, I don't doubt he is athletic enough to do so, and with Reiff that would make a stout right side. I really think we gotta go defense tho because we aren't going to get any impact player on defense through free agency. Agree totally on getting zero pressure outside, when we had Jenkins he could command double team and that freed up things for Peppers and Rucker back in the day, we need that for those edge rusher, get someone who can push the pocket and take on doubles so the edge guys can get around the edge. -

I'm happy to have Tolbert on board. He started as a FB and as long as he's going to play that it's cool. Plus it's just one more insurance policy for DWill/JStew. Plus he has no neck.

I'm officially on the Coples bandwagon. Hardy is decent and all, but NYG have proven time and time again that you can NEVER have enough pass rushers. If Coples reaches his insanely high ceiling, him & Johnson could be downright scary.

Unless a guy like Claiborne falls(0.01% chance that happens), Coples all the way.

What do you guys think about Zach Brown in the 2nd round if he falls there?

Had a feeling that something was going to come of either him or JStew with the addition of Tolbert… hoped it'd be Goodson and not Stewart.

2 Tar Heels on this team? Oh lawd.

Brown has all the measurables. Instincts are what push him back to second round.

It's very likely that we take him, a good pass rush will help our subpar DBs tremendously. I can see them taking a DB in the second round or perhaps a DT depending on where people fall.

It's not even the Tarheels thing either. I know I sound like a huge homer wanting two UNC guys, but they're two guys that match up with our needs perfectly and will arguably be the BPA when we're picking at both spots.

Can never have enough pass rushers, and Greg Hardy isn't good enough to pass on Coples. If Claiborne is there at #9, obviously we have to take him.. but the chances of that happening are slim to none. He's the only guy I'd take over Coples right now.

WLB is also a big need because we just can't go into another season without a backup plan for the inevitable Thomas Davis injury. I hate saying that because Davis is such a good guy, but it's just too risky. Zach Brown is prob the best 4-3 WLB prospect in the draft and he could very well be available with our 2nd pick. James Anderson-Beason-Brown? fap fap fap. I will say though, if Brandon Thompson is available with our 2nd pick, we gotta take him even if Brown is available.

Is Zach Brown really being projected as a 2nd? Because that guy is a beast
