Yep. Really feels good having BOTH of our first 2 picks this year lol. There is going to be TONS of defensive talent available at 2.8. We (could) end up getting two legit first day starters on defense this year, which we obviously need.

If only Hurney was as good in the second round as he is in the first round lulz.

I'm still not big on Coples. His motor is similar to Peppers only he's not nearly as talented/athletic. I'm not against the pick but I'm worried.

Pretty relieved that the uniforms weren't changed drastically. Would have liked black helmets and white pants though.

Are all these news signings for just special teams guys? Never heard of half of these people and from their stats it looks like they dont play often.

Nakumara backed up Ed Reed and Smith backed up Dashon Gholdson…that might explain not playing often

even then, we lost games last season due to atrocious special teams. we just can't afford to go out and get established starters, so getting proven special teams studs is the next best thing.

What do you guys think is the likelihood that we trade down?

Does that chance increase if Tannehill is still available at 9?

Cox seems like the buzzy pick for us right now but there are arguably several guys that it's a toss up between (Coples, Poe, Brockers, etc) so conceivably we could trade down and take one of those guys and not lose much at the position or even go another direction and draft a DB like Kirkpatrick or Gilmore as well as add another pick somewhere in there to grab depth elsewhere, too.

What do you guys think?

I highly doubt Tannehill drops that far. To trade down we need a legitimate reason to do so. Just picking up a 4th or 3rd rounder doesn't really help the team. I don't think it's likely we do it. There won't be anyone there that people are dying to have IMO.

If we can pick up an extra 2nd rounder I'd be willing to deal with a team as long as it doesn't drop us too far. Jets are rumored to be interested in trading up and we would only be moving down 7 spots if we traded with them. Tons of starting-quality talent will be available in the 2nd this year.

I really doubt we could get a 2nd. If so, then yeah take it. Less than that? No thanks

The more and more I think about it, the more I want the Panthers to trade down. Claiborne won't be available. If we can trade down and pick up a 3rd rounder, I'd be happy. Of course, we'd also have to pick up a good DT or CB for me to be happy.

I would rather have Brockers than Cox at DT.

as long as we still have a first round pick, Hurney will pick a stud. Never fails.

the more I think about it, and the more I look at our second round pick history… yeah, not so sure dropping down and picking up an extra 2nd rounder is the best idea lol.

Our front office should call the Patriots and be like "if you were us, what would you do with this pick? Thanks Bill."

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...les-on-monday/
North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples was among the Panthers 30 pre-draft visitors. Coples visit occurred on the 12th of March, and Panthers brass met with Coples again on Monday to refresh their memory.

A league source told Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer that Panthers G.M. Marty Hurney and head coach Ron Rivera trekked to Chapel Hill for the clubs second pre-draft meeting with Coples. The Panthers have the ninth pick in the draft and a need at left defensive end. Coples is usually projected as a left end in the pros.

Theres little telling as to whether the Panthers 11th-hour meeting with Coples is indicative of genuine interest, or a smokescreen before the draft. As Person does note, the Panthers held a similar meeting with quarterback Cam Newton a year ago.

Days later, Carolina made Newton the No. 1 overall pick.

As a UNC fan, I love QC. As a Panthers fan, as a 4-3 DE, he's a 2nd to 3rd round talent, and Brockers would be a better selection at number 9. QC is a 3-4 DE. First round talent in that regard, unless Rivera is switching to a 3-4 base, then I'm all for it.

I think if he was switching to 3-4 he'd be forced to take a NT

Second round? No NT are worthy of a number 9 in this draft.

I know it doesn't mean much but McShay's most recent top 10 mock has the Panthers taking Stephon Gilmore with their pick.

Thoughts?
