I was like "who?". Why do that with Jerel Worthy on the board?
How could this guy not be available in the 4th round, if it's someone the staff really wanted?
I'm sure they know something the rest of us don't, but jeez.

I lol'd watching his video… he demolished defensive linemen who appeared to be my size… It was at least comical.
I didn't know who he was either but Yahoo! describes him as "Silatolu might be the meanest, nastiest player in the draft. He's a small-school left tackle who will be asked to kick inside to guard. However, he's got a natural snap to his game, good range in the second level and can dominate at the point of attack through contact. A Day 1 starter who should mature into one of the NFL's best. NFL ceiling: Pro Bowl guard. NFL floor: Violent overachieving starting guard."
I guess a big nasty guard isn't bad to have on board. But skipping on the DTs that were available (Worthy, Still) makes me think that the staff must be really banking on seeing improvement from Fua and/or McClain this year… We have 4 fawking DTs on the roster that were rookies last year, maybe they think adding more youth to the position isn't really the fix.

Sure, maybe there were interior linemen available that could have provided a bigger impact, but you don't want to ignore the issues we have on our OL. Gross is getting old, and his play has definitely declined in recent years. Wharton is gone, and that leaves a huge hole even if he was only a decent player. Otah is about as reliable as Thomas Davis, and RG wasn't exactly a position of strength last year.
Gotta keep Cam protected and our running game going. I like the pick.

2 draft picks, 2 starters: feelsgoodman.
I knew they weren't going to take any DTs with high draft picks again this year.
Available in round 4/5:
WR Joe Adams, Tommy Streeter, Marvin Jones, Marvin McNutt
TE Orson Charles
CB Brandon Boykins, Josh Norman, Alfonso Dennard, Chase Minnifield, Cliff Harris
S George Iloka, Markelle Martin
DE Cam Johnson,
DE/DT Jared Crick
DE/OLB Ronnell Lewis
DT Josh Chapman
NT Alameda Ta’amu
would be happy with any of those but would love Josh Norman, Jared Crick or Joe Adams……I really want Cliff Harris too

After reading what y'all posted I'm happier about the pick, especially since JJ was gone.
I don't really follow CFB and don't really follow pre-Draft stuff, so I saw OG and bertstared. Can never have too many good linemen though.

Yahoo is calling Norman a top 60 talent… in the 5th round? Yes please!
I'm pumped as fuk about this draft. The Silatolu pick seems like they drafted a nasty nasty man if he's moving to guard that's all good… but with playing LT all through college he should at least be pretty versatile which will help in injury situations, also.
We all know Kuechly is going to be good.
Adams instantly gives us a legit return game… I don't know much about his skills set as a receiver, though, what do you guy think?
Don't know too much about Alexander but Norman seems like a heck of a pick where he was landed. Well done.
Plus we're getting Gettis and Beason back.
Now if our young DTs can progress to be at least average… we're in business.

Still kind of worried about our secondary, Gamble can be sporadic at times and our safeties are a weak spot. I still kinda wish we had got a new offensive weapon to play with, atelast in free agency.

I do wish we had gotten a DB or DT worth really talking about, but draft seems pretty good. Next year we'll need a weapon on offense unless LaFell or Gettis show something big.
Got a LB that should be a very good 3 down LB for a decade.
Sounds like the OG we got is athletic and NASTY to protect Cam.

36 receptions, 613 yards, average of 17 yards a catch, 3 TDs.
Keep in mind all of that as the 3rd option behind Legedu.

A lot of different sources saying that Norman graded out really high (top 60 player) but fell due to character issues and the fact that he played at a small school. I've also seen several sites that say they think he'll be competing for a starting spot right out of the gate but playing at a smaller school might slow him down just a little.

Lafell showed a lot of potential last year. Usually year 3 is when young WR are known to break out. Hopefully this is it for him. I'll hate losing Shockey, too. The double TE thing was something that I liked a lot, especially while Cam is still developing.

My thoughts on the draft.
1. Kuechly - I love Kuechly, guy is a tackling machine and what Mayock calls the best coverage linebacker he has seen since he started evaluating. He is athletic enough to play all three backer positions and will really help against all the athletic TE's we have to face in and out of the division. I know we have Davis, Beason, and Anderson… but we can't expect Davis to come back from three ACLs (even tho I and praying for him). Regardless, Kuechly is gonna get a lot of PT if he starts from the get go or not and really help this D.
2. Silatolu- I would have preferred out DT in the 2nd, but this guy was a good pick regardless. He has Pro Bowl potential and could end up being a straight mauler in the run game. I expect him to end up starting at LG by week 1. If our line stays healthy (mostly Otah), they are gonna create a lot of holes for Cam, Deangelo, Stewart, and Tolbert.
4. Frank Alexander - I think we could have gotten better value here, not to mention trading aways next years 3rd. However, Alexander gives us depth at end behind Hardy and he seems like a high motor guy who loves to play football, which is good. Mayock seemed to really like this guy as well.
4. Joe Adams - Loved this pick. I wanted Joe Adams before the drafted started. I expect him to plug in right away at punt returns and give us the dynamic return man we haven't had since Smitty. He will also give Cam a weapon in the slot as he progresses and improves at the receiver position.
5. Josh Norman - Really great value pick. He will give us depth at the corner position and will contribute on special teams. Very good size and athleticism as well, he could compete for time at dimeback from the get go.
6. Brad Nortman - We needed a punter and we got one. However, with Butler on the board I would have rather had him.
7. DJ Campbell - Don't know much about him, one year starter and apparently got on scout radar with a good pro day. He gives us another guy to come in on special teams and depth at safety.
Overall I give the draft a B+. There were a lot of good value picks and if guys like Silatolu and Norman pan out and live up to their potential this could be one of Hurney's best draft. I would have love to get a DT in this draft tho. I really wanted Champman who went to the Colts. I think we have to face the facts tho, Hurney and Rivera don't think the interior of the defensive line is a problem. They are counting on Edwards coming back and McClain and Fua progressing.

As far as our receivers go, I like the group we have a lot personally. Smitty speaks for itself. LaFell really progressed with Cam and was one of his favorite targets by the end of the year, he also really cut down on the drops he had in his rookie year. I think he is gonna breakout. I love Gettis, I was mad he got hurt last year and I am friggin jacked to see how he does with Cam. Remember he was better than LaFell his rookie year. That 49ers game he showed so much potential, he was getting in and out of his breaks like a bawse and was running clean crisp routes. He is gonna stretch the field for us. We didn't see much from Pilares at receiver, but he could do a little more at receiver this year, especially at the slot. I love Adams, and like I said in my breakdown I think he will develop into a great slot over time, however he probably won't do much this year at receiver. Our last receiver spot will be Armanti/Tutu/or Adams. I think Armanti could be on the outs if he doesn't show something in camp. As for our TE's, Olson is self explanatory. I don't think Shockey is back, from what I read the Panthers really like Barnidge, I'm excited to see him with Cam, Barnidge did some good things last preseason and he would give Cam another big target over the middle.

My thoughts about the draft after reading up some, and sleeping on it…
Kuechly: They picked the best defensive player on the board, and he looks like the real deal, total package type LBer. Love the pick.
Silatolu: Head scratcher at first, but now I see why they got him. He's a big mean bastard, who will open up the run game. People are saying he's a potential Pro Bowler and starter from day 1. Well alright.
Alexander: Guess they really wanted some depth for this year. High motor guy, who loves to work. So long sweet 2013 3rd round pick though. Apparently, a lot of people think he was 3rd round quality this year, but the heart thing hurt him. Could be a wash then…
Adams: Well our special team sucks. This will help. Hope he can turn into a decent receiver as well.
Norman: My favorite pick of the draft. He looks like a beast in run support, and a total ballhawk. I love these small school studs. (no homo)
The Punter: You're a punter. Just do your damn job.
Campbell: Hopefully he's good enough to make the team.

^^^ Solid thoughts.
One thing I'm thinking about though… something that makes this draft potentially GREAT is the fact we got THREE guys that will 100% be starting:
Kuechly
Silatolu
Punter
two guys that have a solid chance at starting:
Adams - definitely our punt/kick returner, could very well end up our full time slot receiver
Josh Norman - I think he will definitely start. Outside of Gamble, we have no set in stone #2 cornerback, and if the scouting reports are true, Norman could end up being that guy.
and Alexander will be a rotational guy from the start.
Sure, some of these dudes will be starting due to the fact our current starters are ****, but still.
