I'm expected to work a 40 hour week. I actually end up working about 35 hour weeks. All my supervisors love the quality and quantity of work I do. I'm happy with my salary. Can't complain. I have coworkers who work probably 50-60 hour weeks because they simply don't know how to work efficiently.

Never had to work for OT pay all my career working for 20 yrs now.
I stay late if I need to finish something but I can also leave early without any issue being always on a monthly pay since 1st professional job.

Federal flex schedule crew. Get my 40 and be done unless I want to earn comp/credit time. End of fiscal year (September) can require some late ass nights, but we are compensated one way or another.

This. If you can do "8 hours work for 8 hours pay" (i.e. actually WORK all day) you will be MILES ahead of your coworkers.

I take quick breaks during the day (currently miscing lol) but I work like a house on fire when I'm on task and there's work to be done. I also volunteer for stuff that's "not my job", so I'm handling my workload plus 10-15% extra. I have no issues with leaving right at 5 - the job's done, and then some.

My sister is in consulting at a large firm, she works like 60-70 hour weeks, plus brings work home and often does work from home on the weekend. By the time shes done, shes making almost minimum wage, complains about her work nonstop, never stops talking about it. I get anxious just listening to her whine about how much she works.

Yet she continues to take more work and more projects to brown nose the middle managers above her. Dont understand "workaholics", specially those that whine about it

Having a business and working for someone is entirely different.

I'll work as long as I could if I have my own company too.
But I'm not working extra hours to bring money for someone.

I work extra (without pay) to finish my tasks for the day, that's it.

60hr weeks currently. 30 of which im making OT pay. (m-f/ 6a-6p) still gym every single day at about 430am. laid back asf (IT field)

I "work" 8-10 hours a week and make an easy 3k (and growing) per month.

Setting up multiple passive income sources at the moment.

Time is something money can't ever buy. And I have lots of time to enjoy life and do the things I love doing.

The worst part is how companies structure your pay to force you to work a ton of OT if you wanna make decent money.

70 hrs / week crew, fml.

Oh, and they also give us only 5 days vacation a year, no sick or personal time off, and like 4 months ago took away our fully paid for healthcare. Anybody else hiring?

Pro tip : Dont work for the ****ing Portuguese.

I'm not sure what line of work you're in but in my career path (which I'd say is quite lucrative) I'm in "middle management". My work week can vary from less than 40 hours to upwards of 70. Those who manage me also have that kind of varying schedule. And one of their most important tasks is to see the difference between those who are 9 to 5 types and get their work done, and those who are 9 to 5 types and don't have enough to do, and those that are 9 to 9 types that have way too much to do.

So many people in this thread make it seem that their management system is terrible - and it can be if the management are antiquated in their ideas, especially if they think "woah this guy came in at 0800 and he's still here at 1800 he must be working hard" - there was a case of this at a former company I worked at and the guy was simply waiting at the office to pick up his wife who finished work later than he did so they would go get dinner together before going home.

Anyone in management with half a brain can see right through posers at work. And it's fine to have less work than the 9 to 5 if sometimes you're expected to work more than the 9 to 5. The 'give and take' principle.

Airline pilot. 14-18 days off/month. Yes, a lot of hotel rooms but the consecutive days off in a row are amazing.

As an accountant I work quite a bit more during Feb - April, but after that I'm working MAX 40 hours, I'm out the door at 4 or 5 and I'm not walking in until closer to 9. I always LOL at my peers who work 300-400 hours more than me a year. You know what their reward is? $1,000-$2,000 bigger bonus. They work extra for $3-5 an hour. Lol fuk that. And because they developed a reputation for it, they can't stop now. They get assigned work knowing they will work 50+ hours year round.

Its funny how loyal people are to companies. We had a guy quit right before busy season and for 4 months people **** talked him. These were people who were his "friends" and mentors. He felt bad at the time and I told him don't they wouldn't consult with you first if they had to cut you loose as to when's the best time. And sure enough I saw a girl get let go the day after busy season.

I Work in aerospace and can't remember the last time I only put in 40 hours. Never ending stream of on fire stuff to do with costly consequences for messing up or making a hasty decision.

It's a cool job though.
