High-fat, low-carb is not "unsustainable", its the diet that we evolved on for hundreds of thousands of years and are thus metabolically equipped to thrive on. Even herbivorous apes are on high-fat diets...they just convert plant cellulose into saturated fat in their guts, a process that we are incapable of, hence why humans skip that step and simply consume the fat of other animals.

A diet is literally what you eat every day. So it's healthy to not eat? I'm guessing you're referring to a crash diet.

I hear you on annoying co-workers giving advice op. There was a broad at my last job that weighed 300+ pounds that got lap-band surgery. So as soon as she starts loosing weight, she is running around giving everyone advice on how to eat properly to lose weight like her. She was one of the few people that could set me off into a rage whenever I heard her talk. Fast-forward 2 years and she gains all the weight she lost plus some back because even though she was eating less during her main meals, she would eat junk food all the damn time. She ended up having the lap-band removed and getting bypass surgery because the doctors told her it would be harder to cheat. LOL

By definition, it can be something one eats habitually; many people will eat different things. Everyone may follow a "diet", but some people just call it "eating healthy" - where you're not following strict guidelines (basically following macros).

Fad diet or cash diet would be a better way to describe it though.

Coconut oil will kick people out and its on 30% MCTs

Your body treats MCTs like a carbohydrate. Its a different mechanism of absorbtion from a typical fat

Even eating too much protein will kick people out of ketosis. A traditional ketogenic diet is 85% fat which doesn't allow for adequate protein consumption for people serious about weight training. Protein is going to be especially important in a low carbohydrate environment since fats are not muscle sparing like carbohydrates

Yeah I've been 'winging' it with keto, or what I thought was keto, but it turns out my piss strips don't see any. All I eat is meat, veggies, nuts, butter and avacados, for the most part, but that doesn't have me in ketosis at all. But I'm not worried since I feel better eating like that than I did when I was consuming more carbs. Changed back in December and have been slowly getting better.

I'm glad its working for you

Try shifting more of your fat to saturated instead of the nuts and avocado. Saturated fat is harder for your body to breakdown into fuel and may push you over into ketosis

Worst is when they ask **** like “hey trinnie you’re the only one who hasn’t gained 15 lb working here, how?” (Bc my work has a lot of free food). And then when told I lift 4 days a week and do cardio 5-6 days, plus track my food, they hit me with “oh that’s too much work”.

Enjoy being 5’4” and 180 lb then.

I've been eating less carbs, but not religiously following the high fats rule

Losing estimated 25 pounds, but I highly doubt i am in ketosis considering my protein intake is way too high since I just eat meat and cheese practically only

but whatevaz I want to lose 10 more pounds then clean bulk back up

I also eat a decent amount of cheese, but yeah maybe I need more beef fat. When I first started this I had a butcher make me a bunch of 60/40 ground beef. Might go back and have him do that again. I'm mostly eating rib eyes and roasts but the roasts aren't very fatty.

correct me if im wrong but for a body builder going low carb is that not the dumbest thing you can do for gains ?

after work outs you will be eating away at your muscles and fat only after and slowly but surely you will lose fat but also alot of muscle

vs
simply working out fasted and having a large carb meal after

would that not yeld in better fat loss while keeping the muscle gains?

he means unsustainable if you have friends and a life and enjoy going out and eating burgers and chit or going to their house for supper and not eating anything cause the meal isnt keto.

For years I kept trying what people on here posted and failed, now I've gained ~10lbs of muscle this last year from low carb. Some people are just different. I'm also not working out 2-4 hours a day.

Honestly this is the biggest pain. I ate corn tortillas for the first time in over a year because I had lunch with a mexican manager of the place I was doing work for and I didn't want to seem like a douche.

What? The point of a diet is to do it strict so you adhere to it so it can work. If I did keto in moderation meaning I ate some carbs it literally won't work because the body wouldn't go into ketosis, the entire point of the keto diet.

Diets done in moderation are the reason why no one loses weight, because they don't stick to it and revert back to bad habits.

I find the intermittent fasting fad followers/cult members to be by far the most annoying providers of constant unsolicited "diet" advice of the past few years. The "eating clean" crowd held the crown for quite awhile before them, but they're still a solid 2nd place of annoying dieting advice pricks.

The problem is there are too many people who think there is a quest for a singular best diet without any regard to lifestyle, genetics, mental health, etc. I've tried a lot of different strategies and found what works for me but I know others might feel like **** on my diet. People need to stop treating it like religion and instead treat it like a toolbox, where different tools work better for different jobs.

true. i guess my diet is more Carnivore diet instead of keto since my "high fats" are not high. Still though, staying away from sugar + breads + tortillas + carbs have been positive for my body.

Sounds the exact same as me. I thought I was ketogenic, but I guess I'm not, but I'm more alert and energized throughout the day, I never get tired in the afternoon (before I was sometimes passing out on the floor in the afternoon. Couldn't find the reason until I cut most carbs.) Before I was eating 'clean' carbs, mostly oats, brown rice and potatoes, trying to keep a decent split between macros, but I usually felt like garbage. Lately I've been adding lots of whitecap mushrooms for their aromatase cleanup properties and it seems to make a difference.

if you added up all the weight that our fatass bookkeeper has said she has lost, it would be 1 metric fukkton

this time she's doing keto and telling everyone about how much (obv water) weight she's lost

i hadn't heard anything in a while and knew it stopped and she confirmed that she hit a plateau for the last 3 weeks

"i think it's because i'm eating too few calories"

lolz
