And I rode my bike everywhere. Kinda crazy to think about, I haven’t ridden a bike in years. Once I got my license I was off.

I think it's part of the reason why yesterday's youth was in such good shape; we were always biking, walking, or physically moving ourselves somewhere to interact with others.

Couldn't relate.
Didn't have a pool, lived in the city, bike would've gotten stolen, dad was an alcoholic, school was so bad some students smuggled guns, had tons to worry about.
Man, childhood was ****ing garbage.
On the other hand, I went to 3 house parties last month and fuked 5 different chicks.
I also have a monster pc that can play any video game on ultra settings.
No thanks Jeff, keep your childhood, I'd rather be an adult.

It is the year 1999.
Your buddies and you are chillin, just shooting the breeze during lunch. When one of them pull out a magazine from their backpack.
"Hey is that the latest Electronic Gaming Monthly?"
"Aw brah you got the new Sports Illustrated?"
"Is that a new Magic Gathering guide book or something?"
"Wha - what is this?" you all reply, as a new dawn emerges and your definition of the millennium comes to an official close.

lol speaking of Pokémon (the og gameboy games we’re great btw)
We were at Barnes and nobles and this dude had a jewel scale and was weighing every pack of Pokémon cards they had
My step dad asked what he was doing and he explained that the packs with a holographic card weighed more and gave me a pack that he said would have a holographic card in it.
Turned out he was absolutely correct so from then on they got me a weight watchers scale and I started weighing the decks before picking out which ones I’d buy.

I'm not sure those cards are actually worth anything anymore. I distinctly remember going to the mall as a kid, probably 1999-2000, and there was this little booth in the middle with a dude selling and buying cards. That was his business. I brought my binder and he offered me 10$ for Alakazam. I refused. He was selling a Charizard for 120$. I'll never forget that.
I'll also never forget the time I was sitting on my front steps with friends and we were all opening packs of Pokemon cards we had just purchased. Bikes out on the lawn all sprawled out. I flipped through one pack and there was Charizard. We basically all reacted this way, almost exactly:

I didn't write about Pokemon in my story since the card game became really prevalent more around '99. Definitely one of my best memories from childhood, though.
I still own my entire Pokemon card binder. 100% srs.

MY dad lives out in the country and doesnt have cable tv, just an antenna that got 4-5 channels back then (now its about 10)
When I stayed there for the weekend I was so happy when I woke up early enough to catch One Saturday Morning and eat half a box of frosted flakes

What are kids into nowadays anyways? Every little kid I see is just staring at a phone. I might be really out of touch but I can't imagine having social media accounts as a 10 year old would be really healthy for your cognitive development and sense of self-worth and esteem?

Here is a picture of my old Pokemon card binder. I have the entire set completed.

Luckily, I had kept some of my packs (opened) with cards in them.
Pack with 11 cards no holo:

Pack with 11 cards and a holographic Nidoqueen:

So, the packs that contained a holo card were 1 gram heavier. Absolute mindfuk over here.
