Yeah that's what some people also think and live by... Also the living expenses in Germany are quite low. Food costs are ridiculously low for a first world country. IMO it's ok that unemployed people are also able to live a life with some standards but it's not ok that there are so little differences between low wage jobs and just taking money from the state. If you work a full time job you also should do decent money compared to unemployed folks.

But does a person who is single, or a couple with no kids get the same amount as a couple with kids? Or dependent family members? Because then 1,400 bucks will have a different effect depending on a person's situation.

Inflation is what got us where we are now. The dollar was devalued and wages for the majority didn't keep up.

Lowering the prices of goods (housing, education, healthcare) would be called deflation and scares bankers way more than inflation.
