I know a family in a similar situation. Family with two daughters. Father was a Latino immigrant who served in Vietnam, suffered from depression and onset of dementia unrelated to the war. Wife left him for another man when he was 45. Didn't even tell or invite the daughters to the wedding. Eldest daughter wouldn't talk to the mother anymore. Eventually the wife decides to take in the ex-husband and take care of him. Eldest daughter is still unhappy but now things are working. New husband takes care of, actually bathes and wipes the ass of ex-husband. Ex husband sleeps in a separate room while his ex-wife gets fuked.
I can't imagine how else it would have worked. They can't afford a nurse on site all the time. Paying a nanny would be difficult. Ex-wife would not have been able to financially support and be on-site to take care of ex-husband. She tried option #3 but ended up in option #2.
That's life son.
