Strong logic ITT. Trying to use the most basic logic here. Jump throw a ball west as far as you can. Then throw a ball east as far as you can. Based on your logic, you'd throw a ball twice the distance going with earths rotation as opposed to half in the other direction.

My guess is the answer to OP's question is actually very complicated and involves relativity. From the reference frame of the aircraft, the world is actually spinning under it.

Planes can fly inverted due to the angle of attack - which at high speeds has more to do with keeping a plane in the air than the lift effect

Had this convo with some friends who were convinced it's because once you're in the sky you no longer move with the earth. That's just false, if there was no wind/air and you were thrown 6 miles upwards you'd fall almost on the exact same spot
I mean the Earth is literally spinning at 1000 mph if that were the case you'd fall and die every time you jumped

I have legitimate Questions?
The Earth Spins at approx 1000miles an hour.
If for example Perth ------> Sydney is approx 3 hours difference in time
It takes 4.5 hour to fly there from Perth to Sydney.
Why not just go straight up and wait for the Earth to spin and then drop down reducing travel time down to 3 hours?
Also if the Earth is spinning East to West at approx 1000 miles an hour.......why does it take 4.5 hours to fly West (Perth) to East (Sydney) when the destination is spinning closer to the plane at approx 1000 miiles an hour and the destination is only 2500 miles away?
Why when flying East to West does it take the same amount of time if the destination is spinning away from the plane at approx 1000 miles an hour?

That happens alot because women are weaker than men and if they are throwing west to east the rotation of the earth can move the ball back maybe. Men have too much force so they compensate for the effect

From my small brains' understanding that's relativity in a nutshell, our observations are from a relative reference frame. When something is moving, its speed depends upon where you're looking at it from.Then the speed of light ties it all together by creating a single reference. Light is moving at c no matter what angle or speed you're looking at it from.

You guys are all making the same mistake - thinking about speed relative to some fixed point in space - but which point? The earth is not just spinning but orbiting the sun and the sun orbits the galactic center and galaxies all move relative to each other.

Imagine each runway as a massive treadmill, the plane would have to approach 1000 mph in order to take off, because the earth is counterotating at that speed.
