as of now, twitter stock is down 4%. This only affects stock owners, not twitter's operations per se. Their business model (pimping out stories by news outlets and charging them) is still sound, as many of those "media" outlets are left leaning and are twitter approved. the real way to "punish" twitter is to have a loss in active users, i.e. those opposed to twitter's actions deleting their account.

this is less likely to happen if those active users have no alternative platform to go to.

Its not going to make any difference in the future. It was nearly impossible to compete, we will be starting a new chapter where it is literally impossible.

As long as we live in cancel culture you will need to own every single link in the chain and the price for this is far out of reach.

There are just too many ways to make a site go dark if a single ideology owns every single link in the chain between a user and service.

Its odd that people still have a hard on for the "private company" defense while actively ignoring the fact that big tech companies have been gaining government contracts and their executives are gaining positions in the incoming administration. When private companies coordinate in tandem with majority party political goals you end up with Soviet style one party rule over information control, daily life, and social engineering. There are a plethora of historical examples of why this is bad for all citizens, even the one's who have been tricked into supporting it

I won't lie, I didn't even know what Parler was before a week or two ago when all this news came out about what was happening to them with them being silenced. So I really don't know much about Parler itself.

But are you seriously suggesting that Apple, Google and Amazon would have been losing signfiicant profits (if any) unless they booted them from their platforms? You think them not getting rid of Parler was a legitimate threat to their profits, and that profits were thus the primary reason they shut them down?

Yeah, it's rich hearing liberals cry about the "private business" defense. They only ever do it to defend mega corperations they claim to dislike so much. Meanwhile, they never gave two chits about small private business that constantly get shat on by the government. I never saw any of them complaining about private business rights when the government has been imposing lockdowns/heavy restrictions on their operations for damn near a year now while all the big corperate giant chains got to continue operating as normal like nothing ever happened.

I think it's a risk. You're going to have 75 million pissed off Americans. Like someone mentioned look at the Twitter stock.

I also think that big tech is so intertwined with the left that yes it could make sense long term financially.

There are many ways to make a service with infinite funding go dark, this is no longer a funding issue.

We need an industry wide move towards prioritizing respectful debate.

Nebulous and subjective TOS, "fact checkers" and obvious political slant all need to go. So does all platforms coordinating and moving in unison to eliminate their enemies. I would prefer a world where the various social media platforms had different standards so the user could decide how "spicy" they wanted their experience to be. If platform A is a little too intense for you, no issue, platform B has tighter TOS. Imagine that, competition and choice.

If Trump was a little less of a moron he could have gone after this but that is a bit beyond his capabilities.

The left played the long game far too well and the right really stepped in it right at the worst possible time.

If you want to start a new platform today its going to have to be a clone of existing platforms and be willing to act in unison when the collective decides that something needs to be supported/banned.
Eat in a deficit to lose weight.
Hit your protein and fat minimums to stay healthy and keep your gainz.
Lift heavy and do HIIT to look and feel awesome.
Use the internet to learn why you should do these things and how to do these things.
