Good points. I do both, however I live next to a highschool that has one of the best tracks in the local league of highschools (~17 highschools). The difference from running on road top and the track is indescribable.

But of course, that gentleman definitely has resistance training to prevent the body from shaving off bone density and muscle mass for maximum efficiency if the only thing you did was cycle and nothing else. Research articles published on the NIH explain that cyclists have thinned femurs because the body is great at adapting. Unless you go pro for marathon cycling, definitely want to stay well rounded and cross train.

If you weight lift, there's probably no difference between cycling and running from a cardiovascular health standpoint. If you didn't weightlift, running would probably be better to keep lower body strength, however that's quite silly because runners who don't cross train (body weight resistance training or weight lifting) are prone to injury.

All of that aside, running makes me get arunners highmore so than cycling.
That's what we do in this ****, brah.

Before or after your cycling you can include this bodyweight regimen for lower body:
3x20 squats
3x20 lunges
3x20 leg lifts
1x10 burpees (can go up to 10 sets depending on how conditioned you are for burpees specifically)
thanks for the advice brah. I squat heavy (6-8 rep range) so my legs are pretty thick. just race for fun once in a while

it's just like anything else - you get what you pay for. spending 2k on a bike is like spending 25k on a car like a honda civic (you'll be buying something of quality and has value), 5k would like getting a 60k car like an m2 competition. spend 10k and you're getting the ferrari of bikes. def a bike difference in quality between a 2k bike and a 10k bike but def don't want to spend less than $1k otherwise you're getting trash. check out a specialized allez or something similar

Also worth noting that upgrading groupsets is almost never economical and you are better off splurging from the get go. Don't plan on buying 105 and going to ultegra, for example. You need a new cassette, new gear rings, new chain, new shifters. Easily several hundred dollars. Buying groupset with the bike is like a discount.

Uphill biking is where it's at. Going up a road that passes through mountains will make your legs burn.

But swimming takes the cake.

Biking is fun.
Running is torture.
They got little baby legs that stand so low

Honestly cycling contributed to leg gains for me until I incorporated running. You will notice in triathlon that great runners are usually not good cyclists. And great cyclists are usually not great runners. There are some cross overs, which has to do with your VO2 max. Aka Kristian Blummenfelt is 5' 8" and 170 and can run a 13:40 5k, faster than 135 lb twinks. He can also ride with the best. Lionel Sanders is insane on the bike and the run and its not uncommon to see him post fastest run and bike splits in a half ironman. He is about 5' 10" and 160.

Cycling will make your legs juicy if you eat in a surplus and maybe weight train just once a week.

Running, I am not so sure. Short distance intervals will make your legs juicy if you eat in a surplus, but distance running... its questionable. It's all about how many calories you burn vs consume.
