All these new and upcoming powerlifters who try to be like pete rubish with the yelling and freaking out when they hit a PR. Makes me want to punch them in the face.

Yep

I remember back in 2008 I used to work out everyday and people told me I was crazy and that I should stop juicing lol.

I miss lifting pre-social media.

When I started lifting in 2008 or so, it felt like a pursuit for improvement as an individual - not as a means to get attention or monetize your personal brand online. I was totally bought into the journey and how it differentiated me from my friends at the time. I felt like I was doing something special which required discipline, which isn’t something I saw a lot of in others growing up where I did.

Looking back, I miss the feeling of innocence lifting had years and years ago. I still think it’s more fun to log a workout in a small notebook than post about it online.

yeah. all jokes aside when you go from a healthy lifestyle to a degenerate one it effects both mind and body cause they function in unison ...half these meds people are given today if they would just get in a gym or workout hard/ job 2-3 miles a night. they would find a lot of their health problems just disapear, if they ate right too. one doesnt mean much without the other

Depends what they lifted, it's actually inspiring to see individuals who are passionate about lifting vs the douchebag hogging equipment while texting on their phone.

I understand passion and being inspired. But, I see these idiots all the time yelling and screaming when they hit a PR on a lift. The last time I checked their is only 1 pete rubish in the world and everyone tries to be like him. I have no problems with Pete BTW. Lifters these days are all the same and generic. None of them stand out to me.

What has changed the most is the prevalence of super juice. Everyone seems to be on something, with the obvious change in physique. There were people on it back in the late 90s (when I first started lifting), but it just seems to be everywhere now. Even bush rugby players playing 2nd grade are on it.

i don't mind it though. i always look more aesthetic in the end.

While I agree the social media fitness trend and ubiquity of cell-tech has changed standards pretty drastically, I feel like there's either some strong body dysmorphia or trolling going on ITT. I mean needing to be well over 200 lbs shredded as the minimum...srs?

It was all about being a meathead back in the day. Now it’s a frigging fashion show in the gyms.

Yeah all these fitness clothing lines are so retarded. What you wear to the gym nowadays is more important than training to improve upon yourself not just physically but mentally and to also live a long and healthy life minus steroids.

Cringe youtubers are the worst. Every other idiot at the gym tells me they follow some youtube who is selling them 'programs' and somehow none of them look like they lift

I miss the days when people just put their heads down, lifted, and went home. No Youtube, no cringe 'programs' and no vegan proteins discount codes

Christian Guzman is a total *******. He's the first one to come to mind when you talk about fitness youtubers. Every girl who works for him at his gym and for his clothing line secretly want to sex him up for his money even though he already has a girlfriend. They are sl00ts that dress up in fitness clothing who don't even lift like they pretend to. Christian probably already went to pound town on each of those sl00ts anyway. Beaides that Christian and others like him are yuppies.

Not sure how to feel about it. But I guess I do miss it.

Everyone's a ****ing expert now. But almost none of them look like they even work out, so at the end of the day I'll mog 80-90% of the people I come across in the general public at 6'3"/205lbs lean.

What I dislike the most about it is that EVERYONE wants to talk about lifting at work or where ever. And most of the time I just don't give too much of a **** about their diet or routine lol.

I really don't feel like it's changed too much. Maybe the clothing has, it's become easier to advertise on social media, so instead of 1-2 local companies and then the Nike/UA clothes, there's all these gym fashion stuff... but social media in general has just taken off, and obviously we're all into fitness so that's what we see the most of. It's not JUST fitness that has been infected by social media.

Really the vibe at my local gyms is the same. Sure there's a YouTube idiot there or two, but that was there 5 years ago, and before that it was still people recording their workouts, they just didn't have as big of an audience. Most guys still wear the basic chit and stick to their own workouts.

More people probably work out now, but that's a good thing. There's still the niche culture of actual lifters, but you're not looked at like a freak bodybuilder just because you go to the gym regularly, and it's pretty much a must for a chick to squat and DL now whereas before it was mostly cardio bunnies with pancakes.

I'd stretch it a bit to 2012. But back when if you wanted to know how to lift you had to get multiple magazines of Men's Fitness, Men's health just to get the ball rolling knowledge wise, with the occasional videos of youtube of people that knew what they were talking about.

Nowadays, EVERYONE damn near trying to push ads to sell you basic information that you can find on a forum, that you can search on google('dOeS cArdIo bUrn fAt?" "aRe aLl cArBs bAd?") It used to be looked down upon if you were juicing because you using a shortcut, that the second you off of it you back to normal. Now It's either they're clearly not natty out the gate, but they still preach like they are

Or we easily find out that people that have sick physiques only talk about their usage if they get caught. and IG is another fcuking realm of bullchit, where the pretty bitch that lifts 10lbs with a bang energy gets more views and influence than tha 6/10 doing cleans with good form

compared to the US as a whole, the chit is still underground, but a lotta clowns in teh show

If millenials are in such amazing shape, then how come 44% of you have some kind of pre-existing condition?

44% of older millennials already have a chronic health condition. Here’s what that means for their futures.
