I've got 2 both with about a 30k limit, don't use either. Have always had one and then got the other when we started my (soon to be ex) wife's business several years ago because we had about 20k in startup costs and I got a second card to bounce the balance over so I could have a year at 0% to spread out those costs. I've got a best buy card that I used to use from time to time on a same as cash 12 month deal or whatever.

I am cash and carry now tho.

2. Ran up debt into the 5 figures over the course of 8 years. About a decade or so ago, I unfukked my situation before the debt really got bad. Spent that 10 years switching the balance from 0 interest card to 0 interest card until it was done next year.

Now we gotta figure out which perks to get on the next, permanent card

I only have one, but I'm looking to add another to get my credit score up above 800. I'm trying to decide between a card with a big signup bonus like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or a flat cash back card like the Citi Double Cash.

Anyone know people who carry a balance?

Don’t understand how dim witted people must be to view it as free money and have 10k+ of consumer loan debt

Cars, mortgages, education I get. But credit card debt for worthless chit? It’s amazing

3 or 4

I used to have more. they keep closing them for inactivity. I never close them for credit score purposes but forgot to charge to some of the older ones so they close them out without asking me which pisses me off.

i use my cashback ones and amazon one.

I have one I keep reoccuring bills on and the other I use in person. Hate being skimmed and then having to go to all my bill accounts and enter in a new credit card, big pain in the ass

as stated above I carried a balance for a very specific reason of starting a business. using it to cover a catastrophic car problem, needing a new $8,000 A/C unit at your house unexpectedly, etc...I at least understand those things although I'd argue that is what your rainy day fund is for (but most americans don't have one).

And these days anything that expensive will almost always do 12-months same as cash so 0% interest also.

But running up debt buying dumb chinese plastic chit and sneakers and clothes? brain dead.

Have 3. The third one I added strictly for credit score purposes with no intent to use it.

When I went to close my mom's Amex they said I could take it over instead of closing it. Didn't keep up my own credit when I was married and the account had 9 years on it.

Seemed like a good idea at the time. But the NTTA has screwed me over so bad. Continue to charge me forsomeone else'stolls and refuse to stop doing it.

- car was sold before my mom passed
- car registered to new owner, mom's TT was removed and the new owner has their own TT account

It has been a whole thing with the new owner contacting them, me contacting them. They said once that they would take the card "off the account" and there were no charges for a month or so, then they started again.

Amex person I spoke to said I have to print copies of all the statements, mark the fraudulent charges and open a fraud case. NTTA says flat out they will not refund the charges or research it or anything at all. Say I have to get my CC company to fix it.

Closing in on $800+ in toll tag fees at this point.

Have around $11-12K balance and it sucks. Paying on it over a year and it stays the same.

Did the stupid buying stuff/eating outetc. in my 20s. This time was real necessity.

I don't want to file BK. Not sure I can avoid it without selling this house. And then I still have to have housing.

I've had 2 for the past couple years, but just opened a 3rd. 819 credit score.

The new one is Citi Custom Cash - gives 5% back on up to $500 worth of purchases in a single category and 1% on everything else. I'll use this solely on groceries to max that out.

Chase Amazon Prime - 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases (including subscribe and save) and 2% back on restaurants, pharmacies, and gas stations.

Capitol One Quicksilver - 1.5% on everything. I use this as my main card for every purchase that isn't one of the previous specific categories (and groceries before the new card/now after I've hit the $500 limit).

Have 2 - Costco Citi and my credit union card. Use the Costco card 100% of the time and pay off every month. Usually get ~$1500 back every year.

833 credit score.

I have the amazon store card - can ONLY be used at amazon (there isn't even a physical card). Set up autopay in full every month and you're getting 5% off Amazon.

Other card is Citi Double Cash 2% back on everything else.

We also have an American Airlines card we never use except to book flights - you get a free checked bag etc.

Yeah, if you're getting 2% everywhere else anyway, then there probably isn't a point in having the physical card. For me it's great. Also, most bars are coded the same as restaurants, so I get 2% there on the Amazon card as well.

Idk bre... my debt was on there and disappeared and then like still effected my credit score but only partially? I don’t fully know what’s going on this game we call the credit system? Tell you what though when I get to the bottom of it and figure it out? I will undoubtedly report back to you... I’m pretty sure though in my mind it works just like the movie cowboys and aliens.

But how do those two things correlate?

Think about it

We don't get the promotions and chit for taking out and using credit cards, no. But in general they just lead to retarded hyper consumerism and most people are worse off, while simultaneously thinking they're better off. Brb you get a super small percentage cashback, which gets factored into the price anyway, but because you think you're getting a good deal you end up buying more chit and looking at more chit in the future.

7 total but only use saphire reserve with a 20k limit (travel for work often)

have all my utilities and other recurring charges billed to one other card.

everything else is for available credit purposes only.

have earned well north of $2,000 worth of rewards through chase saphire and have paid $0 in interest since having the card.

high 700s credit score

I have 4, but only use one for gas and sh!t randomly. They’re all old and outdated.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good CC? Don’t travel much, but the air miles ones always sound kind of chill.

Cars, mortgages, education I get. But credit card debt for worthless chit? It’s amazing
I've worked with people who make >200k and always ran up a balance around christmas. Many of these same people had their retirement sitting in cash/money market funds earning nothing for decades. Financial literacy is less common than you'd expect, especially in pre-internet generations.

I have 4 cards for different things.
Probably gonna rethink that now that I'm not flying every week.

I fukked my credit when I was younger. discover gave me like $12,000 in available credit when I was something like 21 and I used every penny. took me a long time to get everything back down to zero. most people have the mindset of "well if they give it to me I obviously can afford it" same with mortgages. max out your pre-approval because the bank obviously says you can buy it.

credit, like many other things, is designed to be addictive.

Any credit fees that are factored into the price at the store are the same for everyone, which makes cash buying even worse. There are very few circumstances where a retailer will charge more for a credit purchase. The cash you get back is definitely small on a per transaction basis, but that all adds up over the course of a year. But even at just 2% back, why would you not take that? And as long as you are paying off the balance in full by the due date, there is no interest expense charged on it. It's literally free money. Just use the card only on things you would purchase anyway.

That's the key. I think a lot of people underestimate how hard it is to do that and they think they're getting a great bargain when they're not.
