For the next couple of decades hybrids are the future. Full electrics, nope. Not unless the batteries have neither lithium or graphite in them. Nudging people toward EVs, fine. Govt mandates? Eat a bag of dicks.

I was just watching a report of a poor kid in Vancouver. Bought a Hyundai Ionic, thought he may have hit something and took it to Hyundai to get it checked out. There was a couple scratches on the battery protective cover. Bill to fix....$61,000..the car new...$55,000.

So he took it to insurance and they wrote the brand new car off. There def was no damage from the battery and now he is out the car and his insurance has doubled for the next 10 years.

There is a big difference between people choosing to drive the automobile over the horse and buggy because it is so much better vs being told that as of this date you must drive a automobile. Last I checked 2035 is not a few decades. Citycels also have zero idea what rural life is all about and are basically living in a bubble of ignorance.

The end game is grid powered while you're driving, either overhead like a train, or inductively from the pavement. Small battery to get you from your house to the EV lane, and from there you're driving on the grid and recharging the battery. Smart meter in your car means it doesn't matter where you "plug in".

And it's funny they think this will even happen given auto manufactures are already cutting back on building EV's since they aren't selling as well as originally thought since they are so damn expensive for the average consumer. I swear our Liberal government has no clue how bad they've destroyed the middle class and economy in the short 8 years they've been in power. Biden and California's governor Newsom have decreed the same for here in America. In a few years only EV's can be sold. I don't believe many Americans will like that due to the higher costs of EVs, reliability problems, and long charging times.

Last I checked, Canada was producing about 1.6% of global emissions. We could cut 100% (nowhere near possible but just for argument's sake) and it wouldn't make a lick of difference. Makes me think there must be some other reasons why they're pushing this stuff so hard because they must be fully aware of the numbers.

A few decades is not 2035, which is most of the point. 2035 is just a copy/paste other countries have gone with their own fake EV mandates already. So it's toothless NPC virtue signaling by the Canadian govt. Canucks may as well start betting on the year and month that these 2035 mandates are undone. When they are undone I'm sure the politicians will have conspiracies to blame instead of admitting it was all just wishful thinking. I'm not against EVs, but mandates are tyrannical and advanced by ignorance. Get a hybrid and call it a day. You can go somewhere if a natural disaster takes out the grid for awhile too. I've lived where an ice storm took out electricity for 5 days, but at least I could still go places, so I'll probably stick with hybrids forever.
