OP, this is a trend I have seen at my gym too.

I work nights so I'm only at the gym late mornings or mid day. place is crowded, especially since the first of the year.

My guess is there are a lot of people on unemployment because they didn't want to return to work after a ton of WFH jobs required it. It's a mixed demographic of working ages people.

Hard to say the cause for sure. But it's an epidemic. Busier mid day than it used to be during peak after work hours.

Maybe? I know after 2008 crash a ton of working ages people just spent some retirement account money on lawyers to get them SS disability. Saw an uptick at the gym then too. Years later some fit regulars admitted as much that they scammed disability and just do side hustle shyt now and then for fun money.

With the next crash looming and the uptick in recent layoffs, probably have people doing the same thing. Also, the stock market is still in money print mode so if you're not an idiot you can make a few hundred bucks a day conservatively.

Just theories at this point but it just seems odd. Where is all the time and money coming? If you are working class, and these gym goers definitely are, then you trade time for money. Can't have everything. Certainly not mid day mid workweek.

It doesn't add up.

Edit: should mention it’s the same gym lol. I haven’t moved. So pretty good comparison as I lift at the same time now as I did back then.
No way all these people can just make their own schedules. I'm sure some people do but dude this is the whole city out partying and spending 24/7 now. I'm on a road trip now and literally every retail plazas have hundreds of cars. No matter where I go. Gyms are overflowing too.

Ok feggits, here is the trick:

Be willing to shop around gyms. There's actually quite a bit of gyms around your city assuming u don't live in bumfuk nowhere that don't pop up on google a lot of times.

Be willing to spend more.

Be willing to drive further.

Look up the gym on google and look at the popular times graph. Find when it's not busy and build ur gym schedule around those times.

My main gym is near a college campus. Most of the students use the school gym so mine isn't too busy.

The end.

Glad to see im not the only one experiencing this weird world now where everyone and their mama is out all day spending money, eating, grocery shopping, going to the gym, and are at the movie theater.

Movie theaters used to be empty during the day, but now it’s stacked with people for some reason. You have to wait 20 minutes in line to get a soda and some popcorn on a tuesday at 1pm

Sad!

Doubt it. You can use EBT to pay for instacart and tip the driver nowadays. So probably just the instacart shoppers. The EBT ppl just sit at home and wait on their food.

I quit going to my gym when I had to wait on equipment at 10-11 at night. I bought a bunch of dumbbells, a bar and plates and power rack and lift at home.

Business idea: A line of high end, exclusive gyms that price out the average person. People must apply like they do to any other private club. It would have a low number of clients so no waiting for equipment and there's always parking. Maybe even separate areas for women and men.

Charge $800/month. Something like that.

Would you consider applying to one of these gyms?

Equinox already exists, it's like $300-400/month

No, more exclusive and expensive than equinox. Any joe blow from the street can go there.

Maybe even require referrals from two current members, like the country club does.

I'm gonna write the business plan this weekend and going to Shark Tank with this idea.
