Seems to be favored by the same crowd that became obsessed with that as well.

**** take not hot take.

AAA franchises have a DECADE between releases now, there were SIX GTA games released in the same time it's taken for 2 now

Baldurs gate 3 won't get a sequel for years, in the late 90s in the space of 3 years you had BG1, BG2, planescape torment, icewind dale 1 and 2.

Game developers used to grind because they NEEDED to get product out to make money, so they'd grind it out late into the nights and bust their asses to make great games

Now they make 1 great game and then release the "season pass" that drip feeds lazy content for 3 years and call it a job done.

This isn't "nostalgia" it's facts.

Anyway, OP I think the early 2010s was the last great years for gaming.

We still get amazing games but they are so much fewer and further between now, most years have maybe 3 or 4 must play releases.

Yeah, old games absolutely mog newer games. I'm so intoclassic games or good remakes of older stuff. It isn't nostalgia - they are better.

They are designed by nerds to appeal to nerds, not some trannies who just start the game twice. The OST, artstyle, atmosphere, and simplicity mog.

What I hate about new games is the oversaturation of colour in them. Old Crash is a good example - it is colourful but not to a point where your eyes will bleach.
Also the amount of filler trash in most games. I have to go through 2 hours of tutorials and cutscenes before starting the game. Just GTFO, I want to play now.

Many games are not games anymore but some dick measuring contest for powerpoint presentations.

Right around the end of the 360/PS3 era sounds about right

Having to download all sorts of uploads for games killed it, also production costs getting as high as they are now

What even happened to make the costs shoot up so much? And the timelines to be so much longer? Had to be some sort of catalyst for it

If you refer to game production timelines, microtransaction updates happened. GTA6 is getting released 12 years later because Rockstar was working on making constant updates for GTA:Online

Sure older games took less time to complete because they are more simple, but we had GTA4 in 2008 which is 4 years after GTA:SA and we had GTA5 5 years after GTA:4. The jump from PS3 to PS5 isn't as huge from PS2 to PS3

You really wanted 6 more GTA games? If only Rockstar was working on something else during this time…. oh yeah Red Dead Redemption, you know only one of the biggest fukking games ever made.

Larian also has some big projects. Divinity Original Sin among them. Yeah dev cycles have increased but by and large so has scope. Old games were able to release so fast because they were able to reuse all old assets, and largely didn't need to worry about things like lighting, sound, and complex combat systems.

Also, I don't know if you know this or not but working conditions and regulations have changed DRASTICALLY since the 90s/00s. Entire studios won't work crunch for 3 years straight anymore.

"Facts" sure, if you overlook how actual game development has evolved.

There are a lot of spectacle games now but they're still making these types of games that you are referencing.

Ori
Little Nightmares
Prince of Persia
Metronidazole
Mario
Etc

The difference is that it's mostly indie studios now, so you just have to look for them.

Ironically your second statement is the proper response to your first statement. I don't know a single person who considers this current era as the golden age, then again most people haven't taken light years of cock like you have and they don't worship neil cuckmann, sweet baby inc and other propagandist scum, so it makes sense that you would think it's gaming's golden age, but you're objectively wrong, cum breath.

Yup, that's why I always refer to them as the usual suspects. Everyone else can seem to just relax and chat about video games, but they always got a chip on their shoulder and feel some need to get all personal and argumentative with people if you dare to think or feel differently from them.

gaming took a downturn once games started becoming physical DRM and you end up downloading 90% of the game online. This allowed developers to release incomplete games and day 1 "patches" to fix issues that should have and could have been fixed if consoles were never online (not 100% online) like gamecube/ps2/xbox era and prior.

now we get games released just to make their corporate deadline finished or not at full price.

before this made developers make sure their games were 100% before releasing it to the public.. no one ever complained about those classic COD games before, in fact all of the favorites are the older titles.. no one complained about battlefield in the older titles, now its just a chit show with 50% of the game missing with promised updates.
