It has never (at least in our lifetimes) been an elite institution - always a middling one. Although it looks like its been downgraded from middling to lower tier in the last 10 yrs or so - so I think it was "respectiable" when Kamala went there.

There are three law schools in the bay area. Stanford, Berkeley, and Hastings. In that rank. From my understanding Hastings has slid considerably, but it was always in that pool. Would you want to go to Stanford instead of Hastings? Sure. If you grew up in that area and wanted to go to school near you, would you go there? Yes.
