Das it mane.

Rocking a '18 Camry myself. I plan on getting a '25 Camry sometime next year, preferably CPO.

I'd rather have a modern $40k decked out economy car that's a XLE with all the newest tech packages and add-ons, than a $70k+ fancy car that sells $30k+ higher because of the brand name alone.

The Audi would not need servicing in 5 years outside of gas. I've owned nothing but Chevys and Audi's my entire life. They age like regular cars. If you change the oil, you'll probably reach 120k+ miles before any risk of serious service. No new cars need serious service after 5 years.

I don't see the point in giving Audi $70k to own one of their cars. I'd keep that money but then again I am not a car guy.

It looks a lot better than the Lexus, though.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

My girlfriend has only driven Luxury vehicles for the last 15 years. She's never had any kind of mechanical issue. She keeps her cars under warranty and trades them before the warranty is up. Furthermore, any time they need to be serviced she's loaned a comparable car for the day. Poor people who buy an old European/Luxury car complain about how expensive they are to maintain. Normal people that buy a car from a dealership with a warranty. If the car were to have a mechanical issue or need to be serviced. They are loaned a comparable vehicle from the dealership.

In our experience luxury cars from BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Range Rover, etc. are extremely hassle free. And its extremely pleasant to deal with the dealerships. Salespeople treat you extremely well. Not pushy at all for a sale. Like they don't even care if you buy or not.

Go anywhere else and the salespeople are extremely pushy and are worried about their commission.
So your GF buys new and keeps them in the warranty period and hasn't had a problem, that's because she buys new and trades them out before they are out of the warranty period which in that case they are great. She's paying a lot for that luxury because they depreciate a lot but if you've got it and it's worth it to you, great. I agree that luxury dealerships treat customers better. The experience and people are better because the customers are better. When you go to baseline dealerships the customer base defaults to the lowest price and cost is the main issue where whining and complaining trying to get things for free or reduced cost is job #1. Of course the staff and business model has to reflect that.

Agreed, I’m a simple man. I have my Porsche macan gts paid off and my Lexus rcf paid off.

They’re both 2018 models but look just as nice as new.

All the brokies keep leasing new ones and live in town houses and rent. My home is paid off, cars paid off. I feel great at 28 years old now

I absolutely love my 2014 S8, I plan to hold on to it for another 3-5 years, it only has 87k on it.

I genuinely don't understand why you're comparing an old Lexus, to a brand new Audi. You can buy a used Audi too.

You can get used luxury cars along these lines for much cheaper but that tends to be for a reason, specifically because maintenance costs will begin accelerating as you move out of warranty — this is where the car companies make their $$$ and the luxury cars that depreciate most quickly are where the most money is made, the parts can be ridiculously expensive.

Cars like this should not be bought unless you really enjoy cars and will get value out of it and/or you’re otherwise financially set up and the cost isn’t that big of a deal

I just bought a new car.. 35k and has everything I want, heated/cooled everything, nice interior, moon roof, bose sound system, and I essentially pay about $100 more a month on monthly payments then I previously had which is nothing to me

Idk how people have $700+ car payments that’s crazy

2024 - Audi - $70k new, probably will need maintenance a lot after 5 years, insurance will be expensive

If I budgeted $70k in both cases, after 5 years:

Lexus - I'd have a car worth maybe $8k, and $71k in cash = $79k equity
Audi - I'd have a car worth maybe $35k, and no cash = $35k equity

Why get the Audi? Especially since I WFH.
What’s expensive? My Charger scat pack was 40K, which is less than half of what I make. And it puts a smile on my face every time I open it up on a back country road. I’ve had old beaters too that left me stranded on the side of the road, leaked fluids everywhere and had exhaust leaks that would come through the vents when the A/C was on. It’s more of a hassle and more expensive sometimes to try to maintain some old POS and keep it on the road.

Sometimes you just have to enjoy life, even if it costs some money. Not like I have kids to feed.

I'd buy something in the middle like an Acura TLX SH-AWD.

Depending on the year, it's about double the price of the Lexus, half the price of the Audi, yet just as reliable as the Lexus, with similar performance to some Audis. Depends what you prefer because the Type-S with more performance is also an option.

My favorite thing about the newer cars like the Acura, would be the stereo, tech features, reliability, driver experience, and driver assists. You get pretty much everything the Audi would offer and more than the Lexus of that year could.

Subjective, but I think it beats any Lexus and most Audi's in looks as well.

I bought 5 year old Volvo last year with 30k miles on it, and paid $23k cash for it. It's not perfect(Speakers kinda suck), but it's fast and gets good gas mileage and looks great from the outside. I bought it on a whim one day when my previous car broke down and had no transportation, and absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Looks expensive enough where I can show up at client meetings and people are impressed, bit it's also comfortable and decently fun to drive. Has all the amenities that I want.

Need to get some better speakers though. Will probably spend $1000 or whatever it will cost to get them.
