It's funny how cucking it is to buy an expensive car

I've been toying with a car purchase. Two options:

2009 Lexus - $17k, used, 30k miles, no accidents, one owner. I've had this car before and it's a super comfortable ride, easily gets to 100+ on the highway. Very little maintenance needed, super reliable, cheap insurance.

2024 - Audi - $70k new, probably will need maintenance a lot after 5 years, insurance will be expensive

If I budgeted $70k in both cases, after 5 years:

Lexus - I'd have a car worth maybe $8k, and $71k in cash = $79k equity
Audi - I'd have a car worth maybe $35k, and no cash = $35k equity

Why get the Audi? Especially since I WFH.

Plus that doesn't factor in all those other hidden costs to maintain them.

I am seeing more of those type of cars on ******** marketplace. Most if not all with still money on them trying to transfer their lease because their payment of $1200 is to much.

Still plenty of older cars that can get the job done that are reliable. Lexus has those nice sc300

The funny thing to me is how people will drop $90k on a F-150 King Ranch to commute to their job as a software developer.

To me, luxury brands have somewhat lost their prestige factor. There was a thread yesterday where a bunch of trashy black women were driving a range rover.

I don't see the appeal anymore unless it's a Porsche or something beyond $100k.

Luxury brands have become like civics. Someone on Youtube mentioned seeing so many C7s, M3s, M4s, C63s & other luxury trims more now by welfare looking people.

It's kinda like a woman OP srs

-One is kinda ugly, body isnt great. But she is low maintenance, loyal, good with money and loves you to bits. She is okay at sex, does everything you want in bed but you have had better and hotter sex before. Sometimes when you're drunk with your bros they preface with "she's really nice but" and ask you why you are with her/you could do better if you wanted and you wonder what they say when you are not around. You know you have everything you need but find your eye wandering now and then when a hot chick gives you the eyes.

-One is kinda hot, bangin body etc. She's a fun ride and sounds/feels great when you put the pedal to the metal. She drains your balls and your wallet equally well. She flirts with other guys and you know that you are going to have to work hard to keep her, and even then she might just leave for no apparent reason. You get lots of attention when you are out with her and your friends make passive aggressive comments or talk chit behind your back amongst each other because they are jealous as fuk.

TLDR; you know you should buy the lexus, but you want the Audi.

Lexus is based on Toyota so in a rare event it has problems it's not going to cost a lot. That Audi will bury you if it breaks down. Never forget working in the used car department of a dealer and these German cars and a repair that would be a couple hundred dollars for most cars would be a couple thousand.

i've felt like this too latley. just sold a bunch of cars and moved into a nissan frontier as my only daily driver. The prestiege factor went away because all these people with 72 month loans and 1200 dollar car payments felt the need to flex. I'm still porsch shopping though.

Silly comparison though. Different brand, different car, different mileage, different everything. May as well be comparing a 1998 fiat 500 and a f350.

Why would you not compare option one with, for example, a 2020 s5 with 30,000 miles?

What's the purpose of this thread?

Just buy the Lexus. People who can afford a $70k Audi often trade them in 2 years and they don't really care about losing the money

$17k for a 15 year old Lexus ES sounds like a lot, even if it's low milage and in good shape.

I don'tcoat.

the appeal anymore unless it's a Porsche or something beyond $100k.
I HIGHLY doubt they are driving upper tier luxury, 9/10 times it's base model trim.

Luxury will always have prestige. The poor people buy them used and then trade them in 6 months because they can't afford the maintenance. Meanwhile Mopar, Mustang, and Camaros are on every corner.

I guess if you want to be different, buy a E30 3 series, but it's gonna take money to bring it up to par.

If you want prestige luxury is it.

I would buy certified used and save some money. They typically come with great warranties too. New cars just are not worth it.

one thing i miss about my long paid off prius that i drove up until 2022 was that is was worth about $4k so i only had liability insurance which was about $500/year…my 2022 truck that i bought new has $1450/yr full coverage insurance. yearly property tax (we pay this in my state) for the prius was about $100 vs $400+ for the truck.

damn son a 2009 with only 30k miles ? That thing is most likely a tank, smacking it. The Audi is a POS but a baller mobile for you young sons. If you're over 30 years of ass though, you're being stupid for even considering the Audi since you obviously have all the numbers crunched. People who can truly afford that bullchit don't number crunch, there is no reason to

Bad comparison. you're comparing a brand new mid tier luxury brand to an old/used mid tier commuter car. The real question you have to ask yourself is which you can afford. And which you'll enjoy driving/being in more. If you only care about a point A to B commuter car just get the Lexus, a Toyota, or a Honda. If you want something nice that will be fun/enjoyable to drive get a luxury or performance car.

A lot of it just depends on your age and financial situation. If you're successful and have your **** together I'd get something you enjoy driving.

If in 5 years if you buy the Lexus you'll have 71K cash and about 8K in equity in the car. Cool. What are you going to buy in 5 years with that 79K. A nicer car? Something you could have purchased/been driving for the previous 5 years?

My girlfriend has only driven Luxury vehicles for the last 15 years. She's never had any kind of mechanical issue. She keeps her cars under warranty and trades them before the warranty is up. Furthermore, any time they need to be serviced she's loaned a comparable car for the day. Poor people who buy an old European/Luxury car complain about how expensive they are to maintain. Normal people that buy a car from a dealership with a warranty. If the car were to have a mechanical issue or need to be serviced. They are loaned a comparable vehicle from the dealership.

In our experience luxury cars from BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Range Rover, etc. are extremely hassle free. And its extremely pleasant to deal with the dealerships. Salespeople treat you extremely well. Not pushy at all for a sale. Like they don't even care if you buy or not.

Go anywhere else and the salespeople are extremely pushy and are worried about their commission.

Honestly i like the thought of engines and going fast

I have a decent car myself. But im just not that into cars

Mostly cause they depreciate

I think the luxury brands that are part of lower end brands are good. For instance, you can easily get a toyota part for your lexus, but if your bmw needs a part….

The thing that is cucked about new cars is they are often objectively worse than older cars.

One thing many people dont understand is just how mature of a techology cars are, they have been perfected for decades as far as "drivers cars" go.

We are way beyond the point where a new car can be exiting or offer anying new beyond .01% efficiency gains at the cost of reliability and gay screens everywhere. Also, modern epa and safety rules means that you often get an inferior product compared to previous genations.

Basically: clean dial cluster>>>>> soy boy screens
