Darin gantt made a good point.. When we play Denver in 2 weeks, and fox/Peypey drop 50 on us, that's the best chance to get Rivera canned.

Rivera admitted playing soft zone in the post-game and took blame for it

I know its a longshot, but I would love for us to somehow destroy Foxy in his return to BoA

If we do fire Rivera, who are we going to bring in next season?

Andy Reid? (Assuming he's let go)
Cower? (Heard this for years)

They won't bring in a big name guy. Richardson won't give the money.

Personally I think Reid will take next year off and will want to have GM duties and it's almost always a bad idea to give the coach GM duties.

I can see Perry Fewel(sp?) being a leading candidate. We interviewed him last year and if the Giants finish strong this year it could happen.

I hope that's not the case, but I can see it happening. I wouldn't mind an up&coming college coach tbh.

Once the new GM is announced, that will give a huge indication on who the new coach could be. Ex. if Marc Ross from the G-Men is named GM, then Fewell would be the prime candidate

Sucks knowing our backs are against the cap wall until 2014 with just the players we have signed now.

Gonna come down to whether ownership is okay with sarcraficing next year and cutting the overpaid vets we have now(Dwill, gross..maybe gamble & beason???) which will accelerate a loooot of money to our 2013 cap virtually cutting off our ability to sign anyone..

Under normal circumstances I would be okay with that but I'm afraid it could seriously hurt cams development if we gutted the team.

This.. besides Gano asked Kasay if it was OK and Kasay said to wear it, so i don't understand why Panther fans would go on their period over that

If the Panthers wanted to keep that number from being worn, they would either retire it or let Gano know that it was off limits

i'm taking a huge gamble this week in fantasy football by starting the Panthers D (if Foles is the starter). They should brutalize his unpeppered angus

Rivera expected to be safe. The kicker? They're not even hiring a new GM, keeping Beane.

I'd take Michael Lombardi's word over Jason Cole. Lombardi says he is likely to be gone

Hiring Beane would make no sense. Why bring in Ernie Accrosi to lead your GM search if you're just gonna promote the Hurney clone from within?

Beane's name hasn't even been brought by most people reporting on the likely candidates for the job anyway

I hope you're right.

Charles Johnson & Greg Hardy have by far been the biggest highlights of the season for me. Defense really does have the pieces to be good. Kuechly, Gamble, Norman, Davis, Hardy, Johnson… it's no surprise to me to read they have been the 4th ranked defense from week 5 to present.

and look, I'm prob the minority here but I still think Stewart is unquestionably the best back we have. He is not as injury prone as all of you seem to think. The only reason he's missing games now is because the season has been lost for a while, same thing happened to DWill in 2010… He could probably play if he wanted. The only thing DWill has on Stew is field vision but Stew has him beat in damn near every other aspect.

i'll take Josh Thomas or James Dockery over Norman at this point. both have way outplayed him. thats why he is riding the pine

Dwill has speed and breakaway ability over stewart as well

Bill Voth ********@billvoth
Well folks, here it is: Sources tell me Ron Rivera is STAYING in Carolina. Next up: GM search next week. #Panthers

I just hope JR brings in a good GM to pair with him. Gettleman from the NYG is reportedly the leading candidate. Interviews are being done on Monday i believe

Edit: and from the shiity Observer writer's mouth

Joe Person ********@josephperson
Breaking: Ron Rivera retained.

Last time we hired a GGGGG-Men staff member it led to some great football. Hope it goes that way again. Hopefully Gettleman will make waves Day 1. Stepping into a tough spot with this roster(non-skill)

He's got a lot of work to do on the OL & interior DL. Idk, the NFL salary cap is so easily manipulated I don't think he's got too big of a financial mess to handle, but there is without a doubt a lot of players on this team that are absurdly overpaid that could see the door, even though some are not terrible players.

The players that are unquestionably safe:
All competent players on rookie deals(Kuechly, Hardy, LaFell, Norman/Thomas, Silatolu)
Cam
Kalil
Stewart
Smitty
Olsen
T-Davis

Players that SHOULD(IMO) be safe, but questionable contracts make it tough to predict:
Charles Johnson - yes he is overpaid, but pass rushers are so hard to come by and he is a good one.
Godfrey - our secondary is weak enough, and will be weaker considering it's almost a certainty Gamble will be cut. Godfrey is also overpaid but he is a good enough player to keep around IMO.

Players that need to be either restructured or sent packing:
Beason - ugh. just sad, unfortunate, unlucky, you name it. if he doesn't agree to a new, incentive heavy deal triggered on play time, he's gotta go. he's not going to be our MLB regardless of health, but with Anderson likely getting cut and TDavis being an uncertainty(sorry I know he was healthy but you just never know) we need the depth so I REALLY hope he'll agree to a new deal.
Gross - not the player he once was, but OL talent is hard to find.
Gamble - a lot of people disagree with me but I think he's a damn good corner. I'd hate to see him leave.

No one else sticks out. Gettleman has virtually nothing invested into the roster Hurney left him with, so expect a purge. Last purge we ended up the worst team in the league the following year, but that was with the Jimmy at QB. Hoping for the best, but kinda expecting more mediocrity with Mike Singletary still calling the shots on the field.

Blame good ole JR for that sad excuse for an NFL Team we put on the field. But I guess him sticking it to the players that decrease their life expectancy 20 years for him and the only coach to ever make his team relevant just so he can look tough with Jerry and the boys in the skybox.

Jimmy was the only reason we were 2-14. had we had Cam as QB that year (hell any competent QB), we would likely been 8-8 at least
