hopefully they don't promote Mike Shula. i'm hoping either Rivera pulls a coup and gets Norv away from Chud or brings in Wisenhunt

good stuff on the new gm
"You can go to some people and talk about a player from another team, and they'll go to their computer, look at their notes and give you a good comprehensive report. Dave, you could say, ‘Tell me about the fifth corner in Denver.' He's got a report right off the top of his head."
Gettleman served as the Giants' pro personnel assistant in 1998. A year later, Rooney retired.
"We did not expect this. It stunned me," Accorsi said. "But I felt so confident about Dave, we promoted him to the directorship immediately. He was a natural."I saw his executive ability. I saw his ability to administrate and hire people. He was the entire package."
"Six Super Bowls, three winners and three runner-ups," Accorsi said. "He's a winner. He has a championship background."
Accorsi is quick to credit Gettleman for helping shape the rosters that produced Super Bowl titles for New York .
Gettleman was primarily responsible for evaluating NFL free agents, and when the Giants tested the free agent market they rarely missed.
"We drafted well to win those two Super Bowls, but we basically never made an error on a major free agent," Accorsi said. "Talking about unrestricted free agents, the guys you go out and pay pretty good money for. Whether it was (wide receiver) Plaxico Burress, (linebacker) Antonio Pierce, (offensive lineman) Kareem McKenzie, (offensive lineman) Shaun O'Hara – whoever it was, we hit on those guys."
But Gettleman's influence extended beyond the free agent market. Accorsi wanted his input on all personnel matters.
"When we talked about high draft choices, I had him scout those players because I wanted his opinion," Accorsi said. "I just grew to have so much faith in him."

Shula will be a big question mark. I get the continuity factor and that he can keep the same system, but we'll have to wait and see. I have a feeling he call a more balanced offense and actually use our RB's like we should
Also see that Jim Skipper will the Panthers RB coach again. Stew and DWill were happy about that

OL, CB, DT, WR, idk…

Charlotte people need to nut and realize they're getting off easy compared to Minnesota, Indy, and Atlanta…all teams that asked for new stadiums are getting wayyyy more than the measly $200M the Panthers are asking for

Team financials in all sports are closely guarded documents, particularly because so much league businessstadium deals with municipalities, negotiations with players unionsrelies on obscuring the owners' financial picture. During collective bargaining in 2011, the NFL players union repeatedly asked owners to open their books. They were repeatedly denied.

The stadium will get done, but the state isn't paying for any of it. Should become the Charlotte Panthers at that point. Ideally, Richardson should pay for it, but the economic impact that the Panthers have on Charlotte every year can't go unnoticed. And my god, if the Panthers ever left, I'd murder someone.

Panthers are just doing renovations to BofA Stadium, but even so getting funding from the state and city will help keep the team here

We're roughly $4m under the cap. Cutting Gross would give us an extra $7m.
Straight up I haven't given a single **** about the NFL since the season ended so I don't know a single thing about any draft prospects or even free agents. I've heard Greg Jennings is available, would be tight if we could get him even though he's had a history of injuries.
I'm of the belief(now, took me a bit to finally figure it out) that salary cap space is the most overblown thing in the NFL because it's so easily manipulated via restructures/etc, but Hurney seems to have dug us a deep ****ing hole guaranteeing so much back-ended/prorated money to mediocre players that free agency isn't a significant time for us. I mean I know teams succeed without signing big time players. We've always avoided them and it's lead to nothing so I'd like if we made a splash this year.

And I heard that we released Gamble, so he decided to retire. Sucks. He's better at his age now than Norman might ever be, although he was just a rookie, and did play better in some games than others.

We have a lot of small speedy/athletic guys on our team that haven't really panned out so far.
Joe Adams last year, Armanti Edwards, Kealoha Pilares even though he is decent as a returner, etc.
I mean, IF Austin can become another Smitty, then wonderful. But it's rare. You just hardly ever see those guys become huge impact players in the NFL.

Austin is actually know for great route running and good hands as well as his ridiculous speed and agility in the open field.
He is definitely worth a 1st round pick but I think they can trade down in the 1st and still get him.

what are your thoughts on former panthers dan connor and louis murphy ? both were just picked up by the giants, murphy looks to be our 4th or 5th wr but connor might play a lot since we're pretty thin at lb.

As far as Dan Connor goes, I would want him back. srs. Was a more than solid back up. He had to start a few games and filled in nicely, made some smart instinctive plays.
