Its hard to explain to people that dont care about cars why people spend alot of money on cars just like its hard to explain to most of us why someone pays $100 000 to risk their lives and climb mountain everest.
Having said all this I do agree that some people buy expensive cars just to impress people but imo its usually the people that buy luxury brands such as mercedes , bmw, lexus etc where you are paying so much just for the name. The reason i spent $40k + on my mustang gt is not because of the name but because of performance to money ratio and how enjoyable it was to drive. Being an accountant yes i know all about time value of money and compounded interest but for me the experience and the smile it puts on my face every time i get in a car is totally worth it.

My friend has a brand new Audi and an old Nissan Maxima. I've driven both and I'm certain the Maxima is faster but I'd never get him to admit it lmao. Copes gonna cope.

As someone with a reasonably nice car, the one I wanted for a year or two I find myself so happy some days when I come out and see it with it's sexy ass lines, then I sit inside and think fuarrk. I love this interior, GOAT comfort and style. Life is nice.
I never think "Gee, I hope this impresses Stacy". Although when I pick up a tinder sloot etc I know dey mire anyways.

i can tell you for a fact, this couple i know. the wife bought her husband a car because he didn't look like a rich person in his car, 100% fukking serious. she is the big moneymaker in the family and they live in a nice neighborhood, and she was embarassed by his completely adequate import.
so she bought him a classic dinkhead flashmobile.
kicker?
he works from home. it's in the garage literally 6.5 days a week, 24 hours a day.

fell in my love with a estoril blue 335i when the new F30 body was announced.
I wasn't about to pay 70k for a new one.
bought a 2013 estoril blue II 335i in 2017. love the car and take care of it.
im a self taught mechanic so I keep my cars running and looking good
don't care that people think the color of the car screams look at me

Another low IQ jealous hater. A premium luxury automobile is better in all occasions. All humans crave attention and validation . Whether it be through bodybuilding, wearing nice clothes, going to parties, having superficial things etc etc. Fast powerful cars just do everything better. While your camry is huffing and puffing trying to make it to speed limit, a powerful luxury car is effortlessly making it to speed and easily moves through traffic with only slight inputs of throttle which is a pleasure that can't be put into words. Stop trying to justify why you don't have nice things. Work hard, get them instead of pointing fingers and hating in the sidelines while other people push past the ignorance and become successful. It's a common fact that unsuccessful people point fingers etc etc, try to justify why they are losers which keeps them in the same position. Meanwhile, successful people look at someone more successful and instead of saying, "haha he's just attention whoring, or he got spoon fed, or he was born with money, or he got lucky", they go home and do whatever it takes to get to that position. Think big and work hard and you will acheive

Driving a full size truck is the new fad it seems. Other than myself and one other guy I know, most of my truck owning pals have them because they are whats in right now. If you dont utilize a pickup for its intended purpose, why have that payment over a cheaper car?

There are lots of people who live beyond their means OP and yes they are stupid and short-sighted.
However, there are lots of people who can easily afford the cars (or toys of their choice) so immediately stamping someone with a nice car as someone who is desperate for validation is something that a person who is desperate for excuses would do.
On the flip of that, I have owned several "nice" cars (M3, RS6, M5...) and have been looked down on for now having a VW wagon and Audi SUV. But, I have a house, wife, child, 2 cars, a motorcycle and zero debt. I currently owe just under $300 on one credit card which gets paid on Friday, that's it. Some of us put desires aside in order to keep financial balance in our favour. Judging people on the car the drive (either fancy or sh*t-box) is not wise.

I like cars just as much as anyone here. I went from owning Camaros to Corvettes now to a 2003 F250. Corvettes were a money pit. So I sold them and now drive a paid off 90k mile Ford F250. Though now I am getting the itch again and want a damn Raptor. I go to the beach a lot as well as some offroading. This 7.3l Diesel ain't working in those areas. Too heavy. It is def roomy inside though. I don't care for the attention, but it was nice to have and chat with someone who liked cars as well. My C6Z started a lot of conversations.

I personally drive a midsized truck but I understand the appeal. They can pretty much do it all from one vehicle in addition to being comfy as fug with a ton of room inside.

Do you think because your car has a V8 it's the fastest thing on the road?
Do you drive it like a sports car?
F150 owners seem to think they are driving a culmination of an F1 car and a rally car. I was in my colleagues 458 Ferrari and even then had some douche F150 owners right on his tail. BRB his bumper costs more than your entire truck. I thought it was just a generic thing with all cars but for some reason anything that challenges an F150 owners small cock and ego turns them into the most rampant degenerate of drivers on the road.

Meanwhile in OPs other thread, the crave for male attention is rampant:

A lot of people that work at our plant have pretty nice cars. Keep in mind, they are making anywhere from 9-$18.00/hr and feed off perceived validation and trying to make others believe they've "made it", tet constantly complain about money issues. Then you have myself and 3 other engineers that drive 8-10+ year old vehicles. We make good money, but would rather invest the money in ourselves first (stocks, properties, education, other investments) before spending it on depreciating, consumer goods for the temporary validation high it brings. Will I have a nice car someday, sure, but I'd rather build up a solid net worth and invest in my future first.
Most financially successful people invest in themselves before they pay others. That $500 monthly payment can easily turn into a million dollars by the time you retire.
