More surgery, they will cut down as much as needed then around to the healthy celled skin and cut it all out and the pull the skin back together and staple or stitch it up.

I haven’t pin pointed the type of surgery this is yet i think it might be mohs

I’ll find out the dates tomorrow or the next day hopefully. He wants to get it before we leave on the 11th for vacation so he can take more time off for it. At least he’s really excited about that. Cruise, seeing his cousins new baby and going to our old stomping grounds in south Cali. We get the kids starting on Friday again and that will help a lot too with his mood. I think attitude will be important.

I am a divorce atty, he is a thermal engineer, there’s really no case there and it could risk him losing his union benefits and pension, he’s predisposed to it before he had started the job and it’s more like the job makes worse a preexisting condition. And my friend that’s in medical mail practice and my mom who’s been an atty for 35 plus years don’t think there’s any case.
In my state any aggravation to a preexisting condition is still a compensable claim. I work with both liability and worker's comp and comp is much easier from a plaintiff perspective. Unless they can prove that he had cancer prior to starting the job it should covered. If you tell me which state you are in I can check on it for sure. I've had many, many compensable claims where the person already had a torn meniscus or other ligament but because the work incident made it worse we still pay for surgery. I've also had mental claims where a work incident caused someones anxiety to be more severe and that is also covered. Speak to a worker's comp attorney. You'd be surprised how much is actually covered

Op I’m so so sorry. I know a diagnosis like this can feel like a gut-punch. Be strong together and get through this. Don’t be afraid to connect with support groups for information or even just having someone to talk to who can relate. I really wish thoughts and prayers worked in an instant and he’d be better right now. Fuk cancer!

Yeah definitely. Did the doctor say anything about how good chances are etc? After he survives this, have him change jobs. No job is worth his life...Also look into suing the fuks that do this.

He had basically pre cancer before the job and then more cancer during the job I am in nv. Everyone I talked to is kinda like meh it would be hard to hold up in court and suing the union would be a bad idea we wouldn’t get the cash his kids need and him and he’d lose his benefits aka insurance that’s paying for all this, his three kids insurance and his pension which is 90 percent pay after 10 years post turning out that’s he’s already be paying into with union dues.

He won’t change jobs he just turned out and it was a 5 year apprenticeship, really he just needs to be better about getting all the fiber glass and metal and fire retardant etc off of his skin with a cold shower and wear hats and sun screen on out side jobs, we have so much sun here and very high elevation, he needs hats and sun screen.

God, just seen this now.

So sorry Snails, this is gotta be real hard on you both.

Sounds like he's in good hands and getting best possible medical care, so he should make full recovery. Still hard in the meantime though.

Sending lots of love to you both. Make sure you take care of yourself, too, while you're both going through this.

BCC - he will not need any chemo. Surgical removal is curative.

BCC does not spread around the body - the photos look like superficial spreading type.

He will likely develop more over time as they are a sign of damage already done to the skin. These can also be simply excised as they are found.

Suncream in the sun now though SPF 50+ every 4 hours.

Keep an eye on anything that looks crusty/scabby/doesnt heal.

Please also shut this thread down - the absolute nonsense being spread around here will only raise your anxiety levels.

He should wear a coverall and a mask to protect all his body from that chit... I am surprised to read that in US a worker has to remove fiber glass and metal and fire retardant from his skin with a shower! What kind of company does he work for?!

Even at stage 2?

I have been reading up on it and if it goes deep enough 3 mm and wide enough it can reach bone and muscle, the one on his nose being the most likely chance of it, and I knew it was something when the one on his shoulder didn’t heal after the cream that is supposed to eat the skin so it grows back, and just looked worse 2 months later, then after e/c surgery still didn’t heal and looked like the pictures posted and actually this thread has made me have less anxiety than google and so does your post. I’ve learned a lot.

Also thank you to everyone for the kind words and wishes!!

I work with two different people that have had skin cancer. They got it removed and got back to work the same week. It never seemed like that big of a deal to be honest. They both seem fine and its been two years for one and one year for the other.

Tell him to wear long sleeve shirts at all time. (UV Sun Protection material.) Ask the doctor if a natural spf protection moisturizer is ok.

He shouldn't be in the sun much.

From minimal to severe I give it a 3.8 out of 10.

Depends on the job and if the roof has been put on, thermal engineer, so if you look up at ducts in commercial buildings, and the piping, fire walls, gas lines, plumbing hot and cold, insulation etc over seeing subcontractors math and he has to wear a hard hat and long sleeves because the construction site and fiber glass or metal work shards sometimes a full white suit and mask

I've never had to deal with a private sector union before so I have no idea how that works but if he thinks he'll get fired over it then its probably best not to pursue. With public sector unions you don't litigate against the union you litigate against the actual employer. Example would be that the petition to controvert goes to the school district and the school districts insurance carrier and not the teachers union.

Former melanoma patient checking in. I know it's easy to freak out, but like RR said, basal cell is one of the most easily treated skin cancers. You need to be at the appointments to be a second set of ears, that was critical for me. If it is MOHS, be prepared for some sit and wait time. They will go one layer at a time and check each layer for remaining cells, but it spares the most skin, so if he has any cosmetic concerns, it's the way to go. One step at a time and stay off of Google.

I had skin cancer (melanoma) and have had a MOHS procedure. I don't know you/your husbands specific situation but I can tell you what I experienced, as most everything in this thread seems to be on the extreme side, and may have you more concerned than you need to be.

1. Everything was done by a dermatologist, there was no oncologists involved.
2. The first 2 "surgeries" I had were local anesthesia and I took myself to and from the appointment. Went back to work the same day both times, granted I work a desk job, but the only work concern I would have had was doing something that would pull at the stitches.
3. The 3rd "surgery" was a MOHS procedure (the melanoma kept coming back which is why they went this route). Again local anesthesia and, I walked to the appointment and walked back to my office after (3 blocks each way). Again the only real concern post surgery would be anything that could have aggravated the stitches, there really isn't any "recovery" time outside of that.
4. I do have a pretty gnarly scar now since taking skin off of the same area 3 times doesn't leave much to sew up. For me though the scar isn't anywhere easily visible, for your husband I would be worried about how his nose would look after., but that is strictly a cosmetic concern.

Outside of that I'm not sure why your husband would be talking morbidly about any of this. Is it possible he knows something (like it has moved to some other part of his body) that you are unaware of?

Not related to cancer but...

I saw his diet and something about pH mentioned on the first page.
He should be eating vegetables with every meal. Leafy greens if possible. You can get large boxes of prewashed vegetables in most large supermarkets (wholefoods, target etc.).

He should feel a hell of a lot better eating veg with every meal.
It should balance out his pH levels too.

Insurance is going to pay for plastic surgery for his nose post op because how much they have to remove

That’s what I am worried about
he’s always tired and we went to his neurologist (he has tbi) and they tested him for sleep apnea and I knew he would be negative, I don’t sleep and I listen to him breath and he never stops breathing, just rolls around a bit and did a sleep study thing over night too and nothing neurological came up. He also said always has heartburn so I don’t quite know and he’s always concerned how things will affect other people and he doesn’t want my medical health issue to come back due to stress, but I’ll be fine. And he doesn’t want to burden anyone including his mom, so she doesn’t even know. But it’s not a burden.

He should be eating vegetables with every meal. Leafy greens if possible. You can get large boxes of prewashed vegetables in most large supermarkets (wholefoods, target etc.).

He should feel a hell of a lot better eating veg with every meal.
It should balance out his pH levels too.
Trust me in a perfect world he’d eat more like me, veggies with breakfast crew, trying to get him to start juicing again

I really have no idea what it was from. I just know that about four days after a round of chemo the only thing I could stomach was lasagna. But it sounds like he's not going to need chemo so you won't need to worry about that.

I felt this way for a while and eventually realized that controlling who and when I gave information to was the only area I had control over anymore. It feels like your body is betraying you, your work/life schedule gets all fuky, so you do weird things to feel like you have some say over your life again. I know that sounds strange, and I'm not saying that's what's going on with him but it could be.

Actually I could see that. He doesn’t have much control over the custody situation with his kids, the ex wife is kinda evil (who doesn’t let their three boys call their dad on father’s day?) and the oldest, 16, wants to live with us but she’s fighting it. My firm takes her to court in Jan/feb, my mom was his atty 10 years ago.

Then he’s stuck with this union, unable to move, which we both want to, till he gets into pension / retirement time. Providing health insurance for the kids and him.

Medical bills are starting to pile up and he has tbi which he can’t control either due to a really bad car crash.

Then it’s his second time with skin cancer, which I got more information on the cruise after he had a few, he’s already had melanoma and for this round started chemo. It explains why he’s been tired and all his skin hurts and bedroom life went from very active to not so much.

I am super worried, we get results from the first surgery tomorrow, we just got back from our cruise and I am so grateful he enjoyed it cause for birthday and Xmas present I spent our max and then some. But he relaxed and hot-tubbed and had never been out of the country. Also, just this close to the holidays and driving back home through the snow from south cali driving his truck while he napped was so amazing, he finally looked rested. Which is a first in a long time. He seems hopeful though and started to talk about moving back to south cali which we both like more than the snow. :] the pics we got for the kiddos and gifts are awesome! A skull with a 49ers helmet made out of whale bone and packers gear and candy kick butt!

Tomorrow will be big news on what’s next, I am not even religious and I am praying.

Ugh half the time, sometimes he has to wear a half suit, full suit that he can trash that’s white at the end of the day. But with his skin still the pores are affected; I am trying to get him on a script for acne because I feel it gets it that way, open scabs at 5000ft-8000ft in elevation with sun 340 plus days a year = bad.
