As soon as corona is over, I am joining with my flatmates to screw over our landlord.

Consider this, your landlord works for a bank in the risk department and is willing to do this. Contrary to this, you're getting advice from posters on the misc that he's fukked.
Do you see the problem here?

Obviously if the place burns down without the multiple occupancy agreement etc then he won’t be insured either
Would be lolzy
IRL we all know you’ll probably fold aces and pay an increased amount, then watch your landlord turn up in a new S Class in six months.

But the landlord changed his tone from "I want my money NOW I don't care" to "Sorry for the inconvenience let's see how we can arrange payments after COVID-19 settles down".
That is how I know he is ****ed. Because he really was willing to do this unlicensed with all risks involved and he changed immediately once he realised the unemployed flatmate knows about HMO and awared me and the other guy about it.

Report him. He has no business being a landlord if he doesn’t know (or doesn’t care) about operating inside the Law that governs them.
If a food factory wasn’t abiding by food hygiene laws, they would get shut down, regardless of the circumstances. He is not so special that the rules don’t apply to him.

So what's your living situation going to look like? He recanted his demand that you and the other stable bloke pay for the third guy, so all's well?

Are you being deliberately obtuse? You seem out of your depth here, but if you think the landlord is going to jail for fraud feel free to beat off to that.

Nothing to do with op. This has been going on for 6 months at the very least combined with no license and almost certainly tax evasion etc. THEN he tried to screw over two tenants who were irrelevant to the situation of the third. (I think it’s also illegal to raise rents by 30% btw). Fuk him.
Never mentioned jail, I said he was committing criminal fraud. The penalties will depend on a lot of things but from what we know I think the house would be repo’d, the local authority would blacklist him and he’d lose his job.

I'm not sure of laws there but I know in NA what the landlord is doing is illegal, tenant rights are something everyone should know where ever it is they live.
30% increase on rent because he "feels like it"? Nah it doesn't work that way, there's renting contracts for agreements.
As far as I know you can't be evicted right now for not paying rents, and rightfully so since so many are out of work.
Landlord's make nice profits(I'm one myself), don't let them bullchit you, they're not going under yet.

The most that would happen in the US is you would need different insurance but its not criminal in practice.

And I’m against bad landlords full stop, wherever they are from. I do it properly and pay my taxes, so should everyone else.
And I don’t know if you’ve heard, but brexit is about treating everyone who wants to come here, from inside or outside the eu, exactly the same. Not favouring one or the other.

To be clear: the difference between you and me is the above, as well as you thinking that the bank should repo his house. I don't think they should. I think they should shaft him on a new mortgage arrangement with fees/penalties/back pay, and the local council should shaft him as well (dunno what type of property this is but hopefully they can get their fair share too).
My version lacks: (i) reference to the guy's race with all that's implicit when Brits talk about Asians (again, I know which word comes to your mind); and (ii) the repo element. But it is fair.

Blows my mind really. Because let's say he was the nicest landlord in the world and we had an awesome tenancy. Well, even in those circumstances he would risk having tenants snitching on him anyway and getting their tenancy for free.

1. For a Brit, ‘Asian’ covers every country between China and Kazakhstan. Not any one country
2. Are you somehow suggesting I think Asian landlords have a reputation for cutting corners and general skullduggery? I’m appalled by the very notion.
3. What you think the bank should do isn’t here nor there. I don’t think they or his employer would take any of this lightly. It’s a sustained fraud, not an ‘oops unplanned letting and forgot to tell my bank for couple of weeks’. You know this perfectly well which is why you’ve now decided to make this a race bait thread.
I’ve no time for slumlords, I see how they fuk people over every day in my job. No excuse for it

You’d however be correct in saying that “Asian” landlords have that rep. This isn’t to say the rep is accurate but certainly the rep exists.
Actually no, let’s take your word that you could be speaking about Mongolian landlords and you’re genuinely dumbfounded why anybody would think you were saying they’re crooks

Had an Asian landlord 20 years ago.
Among other things he used to fart without any shame in front of you.
Place was a pile of shytt.
Like all the lowest of the low landlords, they divide a house down the middle so they can rent it out to two different people as duplexes.
As far as Asian landlords go, he certainly re-inforced the stereotype that they are scumbags.
Pipes got blocked from roots once and landlord talked me into paying for electric eel treatment because he hadn't increased rent in 12 months... I was 18/19 years old at the time.

ADJECTIVE
Asian means belonging to or relating to Asia. British people use this term especially to refer to India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Americans use this term especially to refer to China, Korea, Thailand, Japan, or Vietnam.
Cheers. Fuk off.
