Last time I was laid off I think after taxes were taken out I received ~$400/week (union tradie so automatically approved for max unemployment on a layoff) so it was about $450 before taxes for a single man with no kids. And that's been a couple years so it might be higher now. That's just state unemployment. (Texas)

The $600 federal benefit is IN ADDITION to whatever the state pays, and there are states that pay out far more than Tx for unemployment. So yeah, there were (are) a chitton of people clearing $1k a week to sit on their nuts.
