Explain why Chicago public school teachers, teachers that have gotten the GD vaccine already BECAUSE they are going to be around these kids on the front line, are refusing to be around these kids? Also, explain why they are so special, yet all of the suburban public school teachers are back teaching in classrooms and have been since August. I'll wait... [please answer unions so I can launch into a rant about public sector unions being complete BS. Bribing/donating to political parties who you then "negotiate" against for raises, benefits, and the inability to terminate bad employees is the definition of corruption]

Yes, their job is education. But there is more to schooling than sitting in a chair and being fed facts from a power point. There are social aspects for the kids as well as growing independence aware from home and many other benefits to attending school.

Both of my kids attend school and have been doing as much in-person as possible. We get calls a couple times a week saying that somebody at school has tested positive and those who have been in close contact will be quarantined. My son has been in close contact twice and had to quarantine. Finally, I emailed the principals of both schools and asked what percentage of students that have been "in close contact with a positive case" ever tested positive themselves. Both principals called me back and said that they HAD NOT HAD A SINGLE CASE. Not one time had someone transmitted Covid in the school since August of last year.

So give me a break with this entitled, public-sector union charade. Especially when the teachers themselves have been out at bars and restaurants and at family gatherings, and when doctors, nurses, janitors, grocery store workers, retail cashiers, and a good majority of the rest of us have been out working in this pandemic the whole time.

All of the education majors I went to college with also happened to drink and party the most every week. Now they are apparently heroes and I should worship the ground they walk on.

Schools a joke. My boys finally back to in person class after a year. They go 1 day a week, for four hours. The other four days are still online, for four hours. Yesterday one class was 10 minutes because the teacher had to go teach the in class kids. Schools always been a joke though. They don’t teach kids anything that applies to real life.

This is why my son will be attending a private school when he begins next year.

I just wish I could take my property taxes that are used for the local public school and use it to help cover his tuition instead.

Teachers make slightly more than the average for ALL occupations, yes. However you need to consider all occupations include a lot of jobs that don't even require a bachelor's degree

My point is that for someone to go to college for 4 years, get a degree, and then choose teaching, that person more often than not is not going to be a great worker. They could become a CPA or a nurse or go into marketing or tech or do any of these other jobs with higher salaries and more opportunity, but they choose to become a teacher. I'm not surprised, then, when the quality of our teachers sucks. It's the loser job, it's the "safe" job

Your points are valid I think we are saying similar things

a) Comparing teaching positions across the poverty stricken areas of the nation vs the big cities that are holding up union teachers from returning to the classroom is disingenuous.

b) Teaching salary comparisons are the biggest propaganda ever because nobody bothers to multiply it by 1.33. A teacher making 50k/year for 9 months of work is an equivalent salary of somebody working the full 12 months and making $6,666/year.

All of this ignores the ACTUAL issue ITT, which is the fact that these teaching unions are hiding behind false statistics to avoid going back to work.

I'd say it's a different type of bullying now: psychological and emotional bullying.

When I was a kid, boys would settle whatever differences they had down by the basketball courts. If we got caught, both parties were suspended regardless of who instigated (just like in prison, both parties are sent to the SHU). These days, schools take the issue of traditional bullying more seriously due to the recent trend in school shootings.

But traditional, male hazing bullying has been replaced by a different type of bullying and a different type of bully: male shaming (toxic masculinity) and the new bullies are the leftist liberals that shame boys just for being boys.

I'd say the new type of bullying is even more insidious because it's part of a state-indoctrinated mental slavery (specifically aimed at males).

The old-school male-hazing bullying from the 90s toughened boys mentally and emotionally, which is why I kinda consider it a rite of passage.... but this new type of bullying seeks to permanently damage boys psychologically...

Yep, I live in a city that votes like 95% Dem and any time the schools system asks for some ridiculous tax increase for schools it passes overwhelmingly. The parents are marching to bring in-person learning back because they know the current system is inferior. Hopefully this is the situation that finally causes the world to wake up to how vile teacher's unions are.
