Swimming is great but running generally builds higher bone density than swimming.

And also we say, "fat floats but muscle sinks."

Besides, not all but usually knee pain is caused by bad form or bad shoes.

Since starting to use barefoot & minimalist shoes, I've never suffered from knee pain.

BTW I'm 61.

I hate running in a non-sports setting. It is one of my least favorite exercises. Playing pick-up football, soccer, or basketball, yep no problem. That chit is fun. But soley running, nah fam.

I know what you mean, but with great sceneries, especially waterfront, running becomes more fun.

Also I'm listening to audiobooks while running.

So if I wanna know the rest of what happens in the book then I have to run.

I started running this year, and figured I might as well do with minimalist shoes. I've had sore calves for 6 months

When it comes to rep power, just remember this. Better red than dead. Your reps mean squat in real life. Just thank the lord that you have your health.

Hi Doc!! Good for you, running gives happiness to both your heart and body.

The only advice, I could give anyone is to "Take it Slow", which you probably have figured out on your own by now.

Many people are eager to jump right into it, too eager to transition to minimal footwear too quickly.

Once after getting used to running in highly cushioned shoes with elevated heels, the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in one's feet have adapted to work in a specific way.

Most people give up and stop using minimalist running shoes prematurely because of the shock, the first time in their life, they actually feel the direct impact from their heel strike without the protection of the cushion of their shoes/heels. (which will disappear as soon as their bodies get used to the fore/midfoot strike.)

-------------------

Adjust theratioof using which type of shoes you use at your running sessions.

Start with,
Barefoot/minimalist shoes1:3Traditional thick-soled running shoes

It doesn't matter which, time/Distance/Frequency.

Then,
minimalist shoes1:2Traditional shoes

After that,
minimalist shoes1:1Traditional shoes

And if you'd like,
minimalist shoes2:1Traditional shoes

And so on.....

It all depends on your purpose/goal, but the experience won't disappoint you, ever, that I can promise.

I currently run 5 times a week on average, and with 3 times minimalist shoes and with 2 times normal running shoes.

Each type of shoe gives the emphasis on different leg muscles. So I think changing shoes might even out the stimuli to those different groups of muscles of my legs.

Sorry, I hate my English......which sucks.

Ive done both swimming and running for cardio.

I actually put on weight swimming because it builds a massive appetite. ~20 laps every other day

Running is great, the best thing i like about it is when you are doing everyday things and say you gotta run for a bus/train, i can run like 100m and not change my breathing cadence. Can also run up a flight of steps with barely moving my heart beat. I feel fit and much better than my full strength training days. Im running 3 days a week at about 6km in around 28m
