theres no missile defense system on earth that can effectively stop a hypersonic missile attack. the defense systems that aircraft carriers are equip with a no match for it at all.

thats why the US should be investing more into defense tech r&d.

Inb4 it the tech is stolen by the Chang master race.
Never take it personal, even when it is.

Don't answer the questions. If you know what I think you know it shouldn't be discussed.

There are more capabilities that isn't discussed in public for good reason.

I dont think the russian hypersonic cruise missiles have a different flight path than any other cruise missile. I could be wrong though.

Either way, what difference would it make?

Every tech you hear about in the media will already be discovered 20+ years ago. The secret stuff they have now is going to be more advanced.

if you could reduce it to <10seconds
isnt that fast enough to stop any retaliatory strikes? or is it all decentralized and automated. so it wouldnt matter, enemy subs would just do the same thing back

As for the missile that was tested, air-breathing missiles are considerably harder to design for hypersonic flight than non-airbreathing, especially ones that need to maneuver. So it is quite the feat.

oth radar is going to see it coming no matter what. Its RCS is the smallest it can get...according to NG....according their specific test conditions and radar testing. Its literally a rejected design that has no use in modern strategic warfare. ACTUAL hypersonic missiles are the EXACT method used to overcome OTH radar LMAO LMAO LMAO

NG CLEARLY lobbied for this path. It is not the most best strategy and it puts us in a vulnerable position against Russia specifically, and probably china in the near future.

The B21 could perform absolutely perfectly and it would be useless against other superpowers. You can say whatever you want about the avionics....that can be on any platform.

fukking lmao

Yeah? Like what? "oth can't tell missiles where to go?"

That's fukking hilarious because:

1) it limits the scope of search and can limit the scope other radars/sensors have to search
2) a bird flying at 600mph is pretty fukking obvious

There's a reason hypersonic missiles have been the primary focus of our adversaries for the last TWO DECADES.

What focus do you think nation states would develop for missiles other than making them go faster?

Payload? Doesn't take much to do alot of damage.

Maneuverability? Helps, but there are limitations to that and ultimately everyone knows where the missile is going when you are a ship in the middle of the ocean.

Speed is basically the only variable you can go in that increases the effectiveness of a missile.

Speed certainly puts the target at a disadvantage, but it doesn't make the missile invincible.Fixed/hard targets like bunkers, command & control structures, etc will typically be easy targets because a) they can't move and b) don't really have a lot to counter incoming missiles.
when will the target for a cruise missile realistically not be either fixed or slow moving though?

and thats all good and nice but again, what defense system today is capable of stopping a mach 9 cruise missile going to any target?

Yawn. I've been informing misc about these things for a long while now. Wish ppl would listen. They already have gone from combustion engines to reactive tritium gas engines. The reason being is the max velocity of particles is much greater. 40~120%. It's a whole new way of thinking about propulsion.

All this hypersonic chit is really just the next arms race like we had with nucs back in the day.

Also a lot going on here with this announcement. First its a pentagon press release so they are wanting to put that message out for whatever reason. either to justify their budgets to show success or so that china sees it or whatever. second it says a DARPA test, so they still in early prototype testing. it doesnt mean its ready for mass production

The only thing keeping us from not having nucs or conventional weapons on satellites aimed at earth is treaties everyone signed. They were worried it would create another arms race with more and more of them up in space. Pretty sure we and russia and china have atleast a few up there. We violate every other treaty.

Yeah since when have treaties been anything other than a tool for the big players to exert power against the smaller ones.

Hey you signed this treaty you can't do that
