I like to post this in almost every thread in which an officer has to use their firearm on an "unarmed" suspect. Never truly knowing if the person is actually armed or not is irrelevant, the perceived threat is all one needs in order to be ready to engage in a firefight. There are countless videos in which officers have hesitated to fire and it's cost them their lives.

Why not just ask him to leave his other hand in his pocket then? Or ask him to slowly remove it in a more calm manner so that you aren't getting the guy nervous and coercing him into removing his hand too quickly.

Trayvon is seen hanging out after school on the lush greens of the front school yard with his friends, featuring the girl who played Precious, plus a mix of races: a white blonde girl, a Hispanic kid, an Urkel-looking black nerd, a white kid with his hat on backwards. A veritable Burger King Kids Club.
Cut to a dark apartment, where Zimmerman, played by Luis Guzman, is doing pull-ups, with the words FEAR and HATE inked on his knuckles. He then practices shooting his empty gun at himself in a mirror. "You talking to me?" Guzman says. "You in MY neighborhood?" He then sits down to watch Birth of a Nation.
Cut to Trayvon at home, at the dinner table with his parents, played by Jamie Foxx and Maya Angelou. They discuss Tray's future plans of being an airline pilot. "It's a mighty big responsibility," Jamie Foxx says. "Having all those souls onboard." "I know," Jaden/Tray says. "I want to be like Sully some day though."
After dinner his little brother asks him if he can go get some candy and tea. Even though it's raining out, Tray agrees. In slow-mo he zips up his hoody, pulled from the dryer.
Cut to Zimmerman patrolling the streets as rain pours on his uncovered head. He does tuck-and-rolls across neighbors' lawns, pulling out his gun and pointing it at dark shadows. A cat crosses his path and he fires at it. He chuckles mercilessly.
"Keep the change," Tray says with a smile to the woman working at the convenience store. With the snacks for his brother he walks out of the store, not before passing by a magazine with Sully on the cover. Tray smiles.
Cut to Trayvon skipping down the sidewalk. A group of multicultural young maled is there smoking pot. "You wanna get high?" one asks. "No," Trayvon answers, "then I'll never be able to be a pilot." He continues to skip down the path and eventually enters the condo complex.
As Trayvon turns a corner, a sweaty and enraged Zimmerman emerges from the shadows. "Where do you think you're going, ******?"
Trayvon stumbles on his words and tries to answer but is silenced when Zim cold cocks himself with the gun and starts beating himself on the back of his own head. "Help! Help! Somebody help me!" Zimmerman screams.
"Please sir, I just want to return home to my brother and finish my homework," Trayvon pleads.
"That's too bad," Zimmerman says. He then empties his entire gun cartridge into the baby-faced teen. "It looks like your dog ate it."

One more dead dirt bag
Would feel the same way if he was white srs
No I dont think people should be executed.. But he gave them a legit reason to shoot to defend themselves against a possible threat. I believe in God so anytime a life is taken there is some reflection. But heres the sad truth. Killing him probably made the world a better safer place overall. Its sad that his mom will have to carry with her that he was a loser, a failure. That he died doing criminal activities. She may feel she failed him as a parent. Her attempt to make her criminal son out to be a victim says she probably did fail him. Ultimately he made bad decisions that led to his death. Its a tragedy but honestly the worlds probably a better place now. He was probably going to continue down a dark road hurting people that cross his path.

Damn, those cops are quick. I had to watch in slow mo to see from the time the threat occurred to when they shot.
It sucks to see things like this, but it was justified. I think they got him with 2-3 head shots? Damn man

did this guy forfeit his ri ght to be treated well by breaking into homes, yes
i side with police, but they clearly ****ed up here
i completely understand being concerned about getting shot
however, the fact remains that they are giving conflicting commands and information
maybe they should use more time training to avoid this
if they are going to be screaming "SHOW YOUR HANDS SHOW YOUR HANDS" then shoot the guy when he goes to raise his second hand, someone done goofed no matter how you look at it
maybe they should be screaming "FREEZE DONT MOVE" if thats what they want
not too hard when theyre pulling in 100k+ a year to do this
while i realize policing is dangerous, and it only takes an instant for bad/suicidal guy to pull a gun and start firing - it is their job and their specialty. they shouldnt treat other people as sub-human and write off unnecessary deaths as part of self defense. the last number i heard was that 15 people die every day on the job in america. police work is dangerous, sure, but so is a lot of other work.

Simple solution. Don't break the law and if you do, do exactly as what the ****ing police officer says. It's not rocket science.

When there are 3+ cops surrounding a criminal why do they immediately go for fatal shots without even seeing a weapon? I understand officers need to protect themselves but there's 3 officers with guns already drawn. Can they not aim for shoulders/arms/legs or setup a taser shot? The cops already had their weapons drawn and the kid had nothing aimed at them from the video. It wasn't even clear if he was armed or not. From the articles I found, kid only had a screwdriver. Officers are supposed to be trained to handle situations like this instead of just fear for their lives and shoot to kill in every questionable situation. That's what a civilian would do.
Before the misc tears me a new one, I'm not saying the kid didn't **** up. Clearly he ****ed up by not following any instructions given to him. But you're telling me 3 of our trained officers of the law needed to be afraid of some 17 year old with no drawn firearm while they all had their guns pointed at him? From the video the cop on the right was plenty close to shoot his taser at the kid and be done with the whole situation.
A lot of you bruhs say you'd do the same thing and I understand that, you're civilians. I always thought cops are supposed to be better than that though and learn to de-escalate situations. Even if the criminal isn't compliant.
Would like serious replies please.

In the military we go by the deadly force triangle. In order to use deadly force the bad guy has to display capability, opportunity, and intent. Intent is usually the hardest to prove.
In this specific situation the bad guy’s proximity to the police (and, you know, having broken into someone’s home) satisfied the opportunity part. He didn’t show his second hand and by keeping it concealed in his pocket he satisfied capability. He should have shown that hand so police knew he wasn’t holding a weapon and therefore wasn’t capable of attacking with a weapon. He displayed intent when he quickly started reaching into his pocket in what looked exactly like a gun grabbing motion.
So he displayed opportunity, capability, and then once he displayed intent the police opened fire immediately.
For the record, Iamtrained for these situations and these cops did exactly what they were supposed to do. If you satisfy the deadly force triangle and make me fear for me life, then fuk you, i’m not taking any chances. These cops did not need to take the chance of not coming home to their familiesjust in casethis criminal ******* wasn’t going to try to kill them. If you make me think it’s me or you, then sorry not sorry brah, it’s gonna be you.

But there might be some truth to your trolling. I know a white guy who broke into a house, and when the cops came they were all: "Oh sh*t, you're white? Our bad. Listen son just don't do this again, be on your way". They even gave him a ride back to his house, apologized if they startled him and gifted him 2 free movies tickets. The owners didn't press charges and in fact are offering to help him with any living expenses. They felt guilty that their nice home lured him in, such nice people.

The second you break into someone's home or break the law you're a threat to society. What do we do to dogs that bite us? I don't get it people are quick to put down their dog of 10 years because it nipped at them with no fuks given yet will go into mass hysteria over some scumbag they never met for getting layed out by the cops for robbing a home. If you seriously support criminals rights...what about the victim's right? Oh yeah they don't get any....you keep nerfing cops pretty soon your glass house is going to get rocks tossed at it.

I don't think anyone wants cops 'nerfed,' they want their behavior improved.
Between this and the guy that was being screamed at in the hallway to move his hands in some intricate manner then lit up, and who knows how many more ridiculous instances, it's clear that police don't always instruct those they are interacting with well in high pressure moments. Perhaps rather than sitting in their vehicles for the majority of their shifts or doing OT road duty they should all be required to do more regular training after they leave the academy.
Every situation is different and it would be foolish to pretend otherwise.. the guy that was running behind dark buildings a couple weeks ago? victim of circumstance, the police acted reasonably.
Why doesn't the guy remove his other hand from his pocket right away? I dont know, but if youre going to shoot him as soon as he does, stop yelling for him to do it. Recognize that he hasnt fully complied and change your commands and behavior accordingly. Most likely he was ****ing terrified. If you cant keep your cool in a high stress situation you were the wrong pick for the job.
The entire situation there was a cluster****. Which cop was in charge of the situation? They were all screaming and yelling. This situation should never happen in the USA, leader of the free world, where more than enough money is put into policing to expect a superior product.

All these posters and nobody bothered to put in a frame-by-frame?
K, I'll bite.
Here's his hands clearly out of his pocket, then going into his pocket (2:47-2:49ish)

Here's him with his hand still in pocket (arm is straight) (2:50ish)

Here's him with his hand reaching up and something is in it (the screwdriver) (2:52)

And here's where he was putting his hand back towards his pocket again (notice hand is not visible) and got shot (muzzle flash) (2:53)

He was a good boy who went to church every Sunday and had plans to start college next year.
