Lol @ this lame class and generational hate nonsense....
• Some of the most well off boomers I know are the first to admit things are completely f*cked for younger generations.
• The only people I see talk smack on millennials are unsuccessful, uneducated people.
• Common sense, and literally a 1st year micr/macro economics course will show you how bad things actually are.
• There is literally no economic model that can save the western economy. It's in a death spiral and has been so for years. This is common fact in both academia and also across all financial institutions.
No doubt there are dumb people from every generation... but if you honestly look at an economy that has had inflation go through the roof, coupled with wage stagnation for over 20 years and even attempt to argue its "personal choices" rather than systemic economic decline that is holding back younger generations.... your not worth the energy or time to converse with SRS

Yes there are economical shifts, for example the housing market where I am is a shambles but every generation goes through the same graphs. I still see plenty of employment opportunities where I am, but apparently that work is beneath everyone. And lol at ending a debate with: "If you don't agree with me then I won't talk to you". This sort of childish mindset is what people are talking about.

Speaking of micro/macro economics. So all these manufacturing jobs left. People are ignorant to understand that those jobs produced a value. Most jobs are simply money changing hands, manufacturing you are turning something that is worth pennies and making it worth dollars. Here in the south, a lot of small towns had a mill. In a town of 10K people, only maybe 100-200 people in that town actually worked at the mill, but when the mill shut down, the whole town went to chit. It wasn't just 100-200 people lost their jobs, it was the revenue they brought in fed the rest of the town.

The Boomers were the first generation born in times of abundance and capitalism as a way of life.
These Boomers had loads of kids - Gen X and Millenials.
Boomers are also the longest living generation ever. They are still holding on to key positions in society and will not let go to make room for the next generation of leaders. Nor will they give up what they have since they still have many decades to live their lives.
Since the line is clogged with Gen X and Millenials (most Boomers have > 2 kids), there is a shortage of resources to go around. This has been on going since capitalism (i.e. the most epic Ponzi scheme ever) hit the skids a decade ago. Until Boomers die off, we will live under oppression and scarce resources. The Children of Gen X and Millenials will be ok since these gens have 1 to 2 kids maximum, with 1 being more common.
The above should theoretically work, but it will not stop resource hogging unless the Governments of the world introuce an inheritance tax that punishes asset rich and 0 value creating turds - i.e. property hoarders from lines that never sold and had good luck.
I am 100% confident the Governments will not shoot themselves in their foots and we will have many many empty properties and people who live under squalid conditions. If we see property vacancy taxes and inheritance taxes plus rate increases to 6-7%, we can see some glimmer of hope. However, none of these conditions will happen.
To the 95% of regular people out there, it's time to rot. Or revolt.

At this point, the generation is lacking social skills. No one really knows how to talk to each other. The minute you start a conversation with someone, the other person is on their phone on Google, looking for answer, location or some other nonsense. Interpersonal communication is becoming a lost art other than text messages and ********.

Yeah, older generations may have had an easier time paying for chit but when I hear stories of older people that are successful. They busted their asses just to get their foot in the door. My uncles were good examples:
- One was a farm kid that went to a college for engineering. He coudln't get a job out of high school so he drove from ND to other cities up in the north and got phone books from those states. He went through the phone book and called any place that could possibly get engineers. He took the lowest entry level position that he could get and had to move to Detroit to get his experience that was quite a culture shock to him at the time. Once he got that experience he applied to places where he wanted to live, worked his way up, and now his bonuses alone are more than the average yearly salary.
- My other uncle could not get a job out of college, so he had to take a part time gig as a bank teller and a part time gig working at a Repo place. The bank teller gig was depressing and the repo place was actually dangerous because everyone that gets chit repo'd threatens violence. His part time gig at the bank turned into a full time gig and fast forward years later he became the CEO of the bank. He cosigned for an apartment of mine in college that required it and his base salary listed on it was 500k without any bonuses included. He is also very well known in his community politically now.
I had a worthless chit degree from college even. I also graduated with 90k in debt with student loans because I had parents that were divorced that used me as a guinea pig for loans and told me to sign everything. I busted my ass to get my foot in any door. and I did 3 months after I graduated. I had to move almost 2000 miles away to a place I knew nobody. Since then I have moved 4 times in 9 years. My student loans will be paid of soon, have decent money in my savings, and I have been able to buy things like vehicles and houses.

I see two competing ideas in this thread, but I feel like both are true.
> economy is fuked - the flow of money goes up instead of recirculating.
> a lot of people are entitled, those who work harder will see more success.
these are not mutually exclusive ideas
It's easy to judge others who haven't made the best decisions but not everyone was raised with the same ideals, expectations, and role models. The fact is that even the most educated and well-paid people still get fuked by the big man upstairs. For example, doctors work ridiculous hours with insane expectations while a small percentage of people at the top of the insurance conglomerate financially benefit. Meanwhile the average layperson pays high premiums and struggles to get coverage or afford insurance all together.
Yes you should live frugally, invest, make smart financial decisions, and grind to add to your skill set. All that aside does not change the corruption up top.

We all make personal choices but you can't ignore the macro changes in the last couple of decades. One big shift is almost half of Millennials have college degrees vs what used to be 30% or less in prior generations. Another big shift is urbanization: people and companies are shifting to large urban centers.

My first home was $50K and mortgage with tax was $400/month. I purposefully searched for a cheap house on the bad side of town. Monthly cost was 6% of net pay. In two years paid off student loans, two used cars, and built up cash reserves and savings. But people I worked with and friends couldn't believe where I lived and they never wanted to visit lol.
The biggest benefit of staying there was the mindset it created for my wife and me.

Fuking people are idiots man. This is precisely why i started at a community college and transferred to a 4 year school. I didnt have the traditional college experience but i could care less... I graduated with no debt... but i also worked a 40 hour job while taking night classes. The only way debt makes sense in college is for a legit STEM degree like medical school, engineering, etc. The plebs taking out loans for a business degree just so they could get drunk all day and night for 4 years are paying the piper now. Every action has consequences. I feel for people, but the whole process is absolutely ridiculous. You're better off going through the union and becoming an electrician right out of high school. A successful Journeyman has zero problem pulling 70k a year with zero debt. Just lmao at cubecels making 40k a year with 100k in student loans that are NEVER FORGIVEN until death.

Also, people take on that debt because they think somehow in the future they'll be making triple that or whatever. Reality says otherwise. We should all dream big, but in reality most of us will not be doing big things.
It's a lie that has created "Workism" in the millennial generation where their identities are their jobs/career.
Chaos and apocalypse on us all
Let them burn to dust.

The **** I see my 21 year old sister and her friends spend their money on is insane. She's always bitching about being broke while making $17/hr and living in an area with a median home cost of $260k. Somehow she still manages to be broke all the time. She bought a 2018 Rav 4 last year... She had a 2011 Honda Accord that ran just fine that was costing her like $100/mo. Now shes paying like $350. This is why millennials are broke. Yes a lot of these things didn't exist during the boomer generation, they weren't all walking around with massive phone bills, huge car payments, etc. I get a cellphone is a 'necessity' but there are ways to do it cheaper. Millennials seem to be about instant gratification and I blame that on our parents.
Millenials living in LA with massive cost of living and you can't afford it? then ****ing leave. Move somewhere cheaper. If you don't have the resume to support living/working in the area, then you need to get out to somewhere you can flourish.
This. I don't think a lot of these people realize you can work your way up in trades and make great money while doing minimal work. One of my good friends just turned 30, is a Electrician for a big HVAC firm that does industrial complexes. He just got promoted to a project manager, and now he works from home like 2-3 days a week programming hvac systems remotely. He's in the field the other 2-3 days a week and its really just overseeing things/checking in on the project. He is making 6 figures now in a city where the avg income of a resident here is $23k.

How do millennials even afford to travel to foreign countries when they are so poor? Never really understand how my fellow millennials afford it.

Healthcare reigns supreme. If you’re not in the medical field, marketing, or corporate level business good luck.
We have police officers and state troopers that are lawyers that couldn’t find work. One state cop I heard of was a mechanical engineer. Very common for them, and an extremely competitive field to get into.
You can be an HVAC/Electrician/Mechancic whatever IF you have years of training for it. There’s no such thing as entry level in that, not around here. And even if they did hire you with no experience they’d be paying 12 an hour for years.
I know people with masters degress that are doing warehouse work. Loading and unloading trucks, it’s insane. Everyone is overqualified, educated out the ass and underpaid. There are no $32 an hour jobs floating around here that no one wants I can tell you that.
I consider myself extremely lucky to be pulling around 50K a year. It’s not enough for a house, that’s for sure.

millennials can't ever win in the eyes of non-millennial so it's just best to focus on yourself and ignore all the noise and hate.
brb hating on somebody for spending thousands of dollars to vacation the world and at the same time somebody living with their parents at 25+ who is actually trying to save money in hopes of affording a house by the time they're 30.
"but but but back in my day I got a part-time job in the summer and paid all my college fees and eventually bought a house while my wife took care of the kids full-time by the time I was 22 working full-time on 40K salary"
fkn lol
