Pretty sad statistics. Not sure how all these boomers think Millennials will buy their homes when they can't save. But LOL at people thinks that saving $5-10 a day will make a difference.

The real problems are healthcare, education, housing increasing paired with little to no income growth. The irony though that even how bad things are just having an iPhone makes thing better.

Overall, the easiest fix is for some of this is simply personal finance and budgeting classes in middle school, high school etc and not shamming people for avoiding the college trap.

Reality is that our generation if ****ed and social security isn't going anywhere.

Yes tech companies. The vast majority of which are located in coastal cities and silicon valley where the cost of living is high. Also, its more along the lines of $90k-$100k/year before taxes.

I hear a lot of cry baby bitches whining about this like this on these forums.

Somehow my 23 yr old gf, whose dad died of cancer when she was 7 was raised by her alcoholic/addict mom, lived at a womens shelter for a period of time, was able to get a job and find a roommate and move out when she was 17 still in hs. Her step dad did co-sign on her first pos car (it was like a $4k car, she paid for entire thing, all he did was co-sign). Has been living on her own (with roommates) and paying for all her **** her entire life basically. Now at 23 is going through nursing school working and taking out school loans for it. If my GF can do it, you mother ****ers on the misc can.

You know what she did when she started school and had to cut back on working as much? She stopped getting her eye lashes done, she stopped getting her nails done. She stopped getting a coffee every morning and started making them at home. She started DD'ing for friends instead of drinking when she goes out. These few small changes allowed her to still afford her rent, car payment/insurance, phone bill and food for the month while working less.

Can she afford that $500 right now? Probably, that might be about all she has saved but she could. Once she finishes nursing school, she'll be golden.

Miscers on her constantly claim about how its impossible to pull yourself up, yet this girl literally came from nothing. Her mom never graduated high school, her mom dropped out when she was a sophmore. Her real dad had some money... because he was a drug dealer, yet she dealt with him dying when she was 7. I promise if you miscers look at your spending habits and make a few small changes, saving money would be very possible.

Lot of truth there.

Healthcare is an issue for sure.

Education/college has been pushed so hard yet nobody told these people that maybe they shouldn't take out 100k in loans for a useless degree that is going to make you $28k/yr.

Yep. Lots of people to blame for sure. But millennials are adults and need to be smarter. Work more and spend less. Limit debt.

Same. I'm technically a millenial but it never seemed that hard to me to save more than I spend. Even when I was a peasant making 40k a year I still never had debt and I always had at least 5-10k in the bank for emergencies.

Is it harder for us than it was for boomers? Arguably yeah. But what are you gonna do, sit around and bitch about it and drown in debt? Lol at that, how about taking some personal responsibility and pushing yourself up higher than your peers

Up here mortgages are out of control and rents are fukkin retarded. Brb 500 sqft basement for $1000 USD/month, 20 minutes drive from downtown. Lol. My town is the fukkin worst, Boomers are NIMBY extremists who will not let any new housing be built while splitting their monster homes 6 ways for exorbitant rents, while millenials demand socialist housing policies. Gen X'ers fit in either camp. So no hope of people doing any better en masse. I suppose attending school here doesn't get you in anywhere as much debt as in the States though, so doing education here then moving out of BC is a good plan for cash strapped youth. But anyone who bought homes before 2011 have basically doubled or tripled their net worth by doing **** all, so millenials face a way worse housing market despite nothing happening on their end to compensate for the far increased cost of living.

I'm downsizing to a modern $850 USD/month 450 sqft bachelor in a really good location to turbosave... when I saw the unit there were legit 10 other people viewing it. Most were millenials desperate to get out of roommate situations. A few just wanted a place that took in small pets (no pets policies everywhere with tight housing market). And it was by far the best deal on the market. Easy for me to secure it thanks to good steady income and high credit rating, but if you're on dat dere 1-2 minimum wages time it's pretty tough to get out of it without dealing with roommate/slumlord bull****.

I have a hard time feeling sympathetic because I've lived in SF my whole life and I was able to find a job with a ladder to climb then start my own business, thanks to the constantly good exonomy here. Have always done well while the people around me struggle.

I think a big part of the problem is people didn't have enough drive in their teens and early 20's to finish college on time or even go at all. And when it came to jobs they just earned what they needed and treated promotions like they didn't matter so they didn't work for it. Now they're in their 30's trying to lay the groundwork for success while I did that chit 10 years ago.

Good example is someone who works at a chitty corporate chain like Starbucks. If I had to work at such a place I would be spending every day figuring out how to get a management position... Once I eventually got there I'd be plotting on getting to the regional level or corporate level. Most people on the other hand will just work their chit job and rather than do their best with aspirations of rising they think "this place sucks. I don't want to be here. I'm better than this." Maybe you are better than that job but how is anybody going to know that if your attitude sucks? Fkn blows my mind.

I don't think it's their fault though... Their parents or society gives them these unrealistic expectations and they can't see the system for what it is-- a game you have to play in order to win.

My brother in law makes about 80k a year and only has about 1.5k in the bank and loads of debt smh.

If I made that much money I would at least have 20k saved.

A lot of people buy stupid things and he’s one of them. No financial responsibility.
