Ive seen both sides of the spectrum.

Heathcare, housing, education are more expensive than ever. Wages are stagnant.

But too many people in my generation are stuck in the lifestyles their parents had when it comes to materialism.

ON TOPIC: you guys are very FINANCIALLY IRRESPONSIBLE. Truly. It is bottom line financial responsibility to have atleast 6 months of expenses as an emergency fund and you guys don't even have $500? (a week or less of expenses?) in savings... NO wonder you retards complain about being wage slaves.

It's simple put money aside each week/month for emergencies and expected bills.

It's simple.

I have two bank accounts.
My check is deposited in account #1.
A few days later x amount of money is electronically taken from acct.#1 and deposited in account #2

Account #2 covers, mortgage, property taxes, insurances and any unexpected bill.
I NEVER touch the money in this account unless it's for those listed reasons.
I also do not have a debit card on this account.

Account #1 covers my monthly bills, utilities, food etc.
Anything left, and there always is, is my fun money.

I barely make any money. Still have >6 months living expenses saved, maxed IRA, no debt, live on my own etc. It is possible to accomplish.

I owed 10k last year and 3k this year. Granted I claim 2 deductions on my federal tax but I'd rather have all my money up front instead of having the govt "hold" it for me all year.

27 and actually have money in my bank/retirement accounts, feels good to not be a statistic, have plenty of friends that thought post college was all about spending all your money the second you got it and chew through their disposable income like it's meant to be spent or it disappears next month.

not saying i'm a hermit either, people just lack the desire to look at their financial situation for 15 minutes once a month when they're paid.

Didn't read the article (mostly due to ad blocker popup BS), but I'd reckon it's because most people expect to receive a tax refund, not to actually owe anything. Couple that with the fact that people rarely hold an emergency fund or savings, and instead just throw cash at debts, investments, and "fun."
