i wouldn't say it'smuchharder, but relation to dumbells cant be 50% of the barbell weight because of different ROM and bigger requirement for stabilization. from what i noticed repping 85s dbs is like repping 190-200 barbell

Closed chain exercise vs open chain exercise. Basically a closed chain allows sideways force to be exerted forwards. When it is an open chain exercise sidewise force goes sideways.

https://www.physio-pedia.com/Kinetic_Chain

Any dude that can bench 300 can EASILY manage 100s and can probably handle 120's for several reps.

The truth is that with a 15% decline in performance not many people can handle 100 dbs because people don't max dbs and most people can't rep 235... The other truth is that most people that can rep 235 can press a lot more.

I never really did them until recently cause I always failed at setting them up. That caused me to hate the exersize.
Recently I did an easy 70x12 in a hotel gym cause they had no barbell, but I still struggled to get the dbs in position.
This thread(especially Bobby's vid) made me realize I never looked into setting it up properly.

Never thought about just putting the dumbbells on my knees from the start instead of that weird sitting powerclean with a fall backwards I did.
I will try them later now and maybe incorporate the excersize regularily.

I feel really dumb now.

Not to be an atypical miscer, but before I had a barbell 8 months into lifting I was one arm benching 80s for 5x5. I think it's that your average gym goer doesn't care to do anything beside 3x10 once a week and wonder why they'rent improving. 85lb is 170-185 in barbell numbers so yeah the number of people who bench a plate or more is significantly less than peop;e who cant because most people dont care enough to actually try.

I pretty much only use that high of a Db if I’m doing shrugs. My current max for Db is 70’s for bench. Would love to be on 90 or more sometime this year.

85's are the equivalent to like 200-205 lbs bro. I can do 75x6 without a spotter right now and can do 6 reps with at least 190

85's are big and heavy af

This video is wrong. When you get to heavy dumbbells turning them becomes difficult especially if they aren’t built from 12.5s. If they are built from 10s they are long af and thus require great forearm strength. That’s why you see guys like Larry wheels use normal kick back form and not this.

I do dbs and machine. I'm not a fan of barbell. fuks with my wrist, and I see one side of my body compensating for the other. The growth looks off. I've seen 85s+ done before but if I went up that high I'd need a spotter so I'm not dropping that chit on someone lol.

There's no spotting someone doing DB presses, what are you gonna do "hold on bro, lemme grab ur hands and take the DBs from you and then fall down and snap my back 'coz the body isn't ready for that kind shift in ension bro lololololol"? 85s are heavy for bicep curls maybe, but it's all relative. No excuses, just improve. Just lol if all you had was a single DB and you had to make it work for you for your first six months of lifting.

Seems like the average person wouldn't have any reason to be using 85's, those are some pretty heavy weights!

Barbells are hard on the wrist. Wonderful thing about resistance training is that there are other options. DBs for the win, machines I'm not a fan of unless that's all you can do or got at the time.

This is BS. You cannot correlate. You are good at what you train. It's not equal.

I haven't used BBs in over a decade. I am strong on DBs, but have no idea what my BB is and do'nt care. And...I don't do anything for 6 or less. At 8 reps, I drop/strip set.

Dont see how bb is any harder on the wrist than db assuming you grip the bar correctly.

I programmed DB incline for a while just because i was bored, i got to 120s for 5-6 reps, you dont see it often because those dumbbells are heavy and annoying to set up once you get past 100+

Ide rather just load a barbell

It's definitely technique. I do it different for flat versus incline.

Barbells don't hurt my wrists at all, but lately, due to a rotator cuff injury, barbell presses hurt my right shoulder, so I'm forced to do dumbell work instead, for a while

Oh really? and what about if it's repping 85 lb dumbells for 50 reps?

Yes, everyone is different, of course, but for me, if I can rep out let's say 100 lb dumbells on flat dumbell press, for let's say 13 reps, I know I can rep out 225 lbs on the bench for 13 reps, for sure, so I simply add 25 lbs to whatever I'm lifting with dumbells, at least that's what works for me. Lately I'm experimenting a lot with high reps, and super high reps, it's awesome, I'm never afraid to experiment in the gym

Who honestly cares how impressive your lift is if you are just lifting because you enjoy it and like seeing progress. I am a twink to everyone on these forums but girls get wet and tell me I'm muscular so I couldn't care less what some guy who has made lifting his identity thinks about my 230lb bench and my 75lb dumbell presses, which btw is definitely impressive to the average *******, which is fine by me because I'm not trying to impress the local bodybuilding population.
