Sort of like algining with someone on what the beach smells like....but the other person has never actaully been to the beach. You can discuss what you have read in books or seen in movies, but you would never be able to describe or understand that smell.

Its like the "bags of sand" joke in 40 year old virgin.
So yes while most americans live pay check to paycheck, not all do. And because I know where OP is coming from, i know certain perspectives given here (not just by me) can help.

And if its certain forms of proof you are seeking.....i know people that bet more in one hand then the upper range of rings being discussed here.....https://i.imgur.com/19LtvJL.jpg

Is that enough for you or let me guess....you want to see a bank statement right?
And I would say "it feels like a Type R is a better driver's car", which it objectively is. Tell me you want the car because of the status associated with it, but don't try to BS me about some subjective feel. The fact of the matter is, many times, money doesn't make a difference. Think about spending $30k for a shiny rock that doesn't do anything at all, and not even the most shiny rock because lab grown diamonds are perfect in color and lack of occlusions, and moissanite is rarer and reflects better than diamond. People can spend their money as they see fit, but I will never understand certain things.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Depends on what you can afford. I don't think it should be 3 years salary but like any luxury item just don't buy anything you can't afford to buy twice. If you're broke at the beginning of the marriage then buy a poverty ring then get a new one after 10 or so yrs. It won't affect the marriage but it's a reflection of how much you value her IMO. Ideally you'd be with a traditional woman worth valuing, so you won't think twice about showing that level of appreciation.
Do not think that what is hard for you to master is humanly impossible; and if it is humanly possible, consider it to be within your reach.

Well, one thing is for certain in all this. Which is, no amount of money you spend on a woman in general is going to ensure loyalty from her. Doesn't matter if you buy a $2.5k trio set of matching wedding rings/engagement ring, or if you buy a $30k diamond wedding ring from Tiffany's. The extra $27.5k+ isn't gonna do anything extra to help keep Jamal's schlong out of her mouth after she's had a few drinks with her girlfriends and the girlfriends say "omg, just go have some fun giiiiiiiiiiiiirly! U deserve 2 be happy!!!!! heeheehee!!"

Eh if you got it then you got it.

Someone who is cheap would spend $1k on a ring by most standards. Someone who is average maybe $5k.

You get some immigrant from Cambodia and tell them you spent that much on a ring and they will think you’re being insane, similar to people here being upset at a 35k ring

At the end of the day you got to sleep in the bed you made. Make decisions based on your values and because you want to do them, as well as your financial situation. But I will warn that you should determine your values, not marketing agencies for whatever company trying to sell you stuff

If anything it’s the opposite

The girl who NEEDS a designer ring means she also needs external validation , which is a major drive to cheating

I came to the decision on the type, size and quality of ring by getting her something i thought was nice, something most would think is better than normal and something i think she would appreciate without screaming look at me (over the top).

because the only other things he spends money on are super cars. Plus my sister is a doctor so she brings in much more to the household than the average wife.

This is what you’ve been taught through indoctrination. The bottom line is, life gets very lonely after 40. Having a partner in life is much more beneficial than being alone. having children also help bring meaning to one’s life.

These are all reasons why today’s youth are so nihilistic. They have been fed tremendous lies. The feminist agenda has been devastating.

I don't know what he makes but it is probably close. He's a scientist and has an open invite from every major school in the country to run his lab because he does ground breaking work and his patents bring in a good amount as well.

If you're talking about something that will hold value, if that matters to you, it is my possibly incorrect understanding that diamonds are actually far more plentiful, with tons of reserves that could drastically devalue the market price, than gold, which is actually far more scarce. Platinum and palladium also are truly very scarce. Maybe consider metal vs gemstone as a consideration.

Ok lets talk. Have you driven both? I have not driven a Type R so I cant comment on how it feels. Explain to me how the Type R feels better than an LP640 in low gear and high RPM.

Status is part of it. But if I wanted status there are far more comfortable and realiable cars than the LP640 for the money no? The Huracan is way more logical.
I am ALL ABOUT subjective feel. I honestly dont care what the fastest is because if you really want to look at it, the Plaid is faster than the Type R at the light so I go by how the experience makes me feel.

"Fact of the matter is many times money doesnt make the difference" - if you looked at my posts about the diamond game im saying it does and it doesnt

honestly with everything going on in the economy and knowing how brutal the diamond industry is, if a woman is still insistant that you provide a ring of a certain value - whether is be a minimum amount or a percentage of your salary...I can't even imagine getting engaged to a woman like that.

Especially with the options out there with lab diamonds and other gemstones. it's just so impractical. And if she says tradition, well that is only roughly 100 years old. I always remember it being 2 months and I still see that a lot online but I also have been seeing more and more saying 3 months.

Just pitch it to her as being practical but make an honest concession as well - like instead of the ring, I can put the money towards the first house.

This is a logical and well-rounded perspective. I 100% agree on making determining your own values and also aligned and have always said "expensive", "afford", "X is better than Y" is all relative.

I'll hold my judgement on the other guy's statement that the Type R is a better driving experience than the LP640 (I havent driven the Type R) but I have driven others in its class and it doesnt even come close.

Ok bro let me break this down easy for you to understand.

Man A is worth $76M. He buys his fiancé a ring for $250k.
Man B is worth $100k. He buys his fiancé a ring for $10k.

Who is more of a "simp"?

There's a bajillion better things to spend that money on, and most sloots who expect an expensive ring probably expect a really expensive wedding too. Far more PRACTICAL uses for that money.

At any rate, the one time I got my arm twisted into an engagement - I'm pretty sure I got away with one under 1k. At any rate, don't plan on doing that again. No interest in marriage.

Different strokes for different folks right? If I threw a retirement party and my wife bought my a Rolex for a gift......and later I found out it was a replica. I would probably have a problem with it. I'd rather her not buy me a watch at all. I am not saying this is the only way....this is just how I think and others around me in real life would agree. We have had these conversations.
