glad you're okay. No chit man I bought a yamaha fzr when I was 18 and I rode that thing for a summer and got rid of it, riding motorcycles is dangerous as fuark. All it takes is one pothole or someone not checking his blind spots moves into your lane and you're done.

Got my licence some weeks ago but don't have a bike. Can't afford it, as much as i would love one.

Still, i do get why people talk some much about the negatives. It is indeed living on the edge, sometimes. But it's one of the best feelings in the world, no doubt, and probably only people who never experienced it think otherwise.
The thing is that the highs are really high... the lows are really low. Minor things can screw you up or at least affect you for some time.

Let's see where the future takes me. I can't really afford fun cars so that's another plus of the bikes. (Bigger) Trills for less money. I understand your decision to get out, there are another great hobbies out there.

True story, a few years ago I was putting air in my tire when I heard a loud crash from near by so I immediately stopped doing that and went to go check it out (I have EMT training); it was an accident between a car and a motorcycle at speeds of no more than 35-40mph because of where it took place.

The guy who was in the car was still in it but the guy on the motorcycle was lying facedown in the road with people starting to gather around. I was first on scene so I told them to stay away and directed someone to call 911/go up to the fire station and tell them to come (it was literally about 3 mins driving up the street). I turn guy over and try to see if hes alert but I got no response and I couldnt see any rising in his chest so I started to take off his helmet and do CPR on him when I saw that #1 his helmet wouldnt come off and #2 his eyes were wide open and bulging. Due to the no response/breathing I started doing chest compression and his chest felt mushy and within 3 blood started to goop out of his mouth so I stopped. He was done. The medics arrived about 4 mins later and obviously declared him dead.

It happens; there are worse ways to die though so if you enjoy it you should just accept the risk involved.

Have never considered riding a motorcycle due to the danger but after seeing a little bit of the aftermath of a video of someone who hit a guard rail after another rider came flying into him, I'll never ever entertain the thought of riding one.

But that's good you have no major injuries.

I just started this year but went bananas with level 2 armor upgrades in everything. Hope to never test it out.

Was riding a couple miles to pick up a coffee, had sweats, a tshirt, no gloves but did have my helmet on, went through an intersection when some old broad cruised through the red light, i saw her at the last second and swerved but she barely clipped by back tire, swerved and put the bike down on my leg, knee felt jacked and had bad road rash on my shin (bone showing). This happened last week, already went out again without gear.

Damn **** glad your okay i know just how small the line between living and dying can be when your riding. My mums friend died when she was 40 on a highway got hit by a car not checking their blindspot. she ended up losing body parts due to the guard rail and was dead within seconds of the crash. left behind 2 kids and a husband.

Thats just One of the many reasons i only dirt bike or go on quite rides because you never know what other drives are going to do next to you really puts things in perspective sh*t like this

I rode a Suzuki GSXR in my early 20s. Only "accident" I had was falling on wet gravel making a U turn. I have however seen jackass riders on sportsbikes going 70/80+ mph cutting in and out/spitting lanes.. and I think to myself, this is why bikers die...

Now at 29, I sold my Gixxer and got me a nice safe cruiser intruder that I chopped into a bobber. I no longer ride on the highway and cruise around town on the streets. I follow the rules and rarely ride past 40/maybe 50 mph. If I fall at that speed I'll get a few scratches and bruises. The way I ride is no more dangerous than riding a regular bicycle.

Ditch your gayass sports bike and get a real mans cruiser/bobber/chopper. 90% of motorcycle crashes are rider error. Look up the stats, as I'm too lazy to look them up so you know I'm not speaking out of my ass.

Get my license in a months time and have been set on getting a bike for ages now - however I've read (including this whole thread) and watched a lot of chit that's really struck the fear of god into me.
Was planning on getting a mt-09(fz09) but god dam their are so many chit drivers out there. I was planing on buying all leather gear to and a top of the range helmet, but that won't help me if ole billy swerves into me at 100kph I'm done.

Is the risk worth it? I'm not sure anymore, was planning on using it as something to do and meet new people as I've gotten out of the car game - but I'm not sure if i can justify the risk anymore.

Maybe ill just get a supermoto and putt around the streets, but even then the risk is their.

I worked in a hospital for five years, and am good friends with a number of motorcyclists. If you ride a motorcycle on the regular, the question isn't whether you're going to crash, but when. You will crash eventually. How badly you are damaged from the crash depends on gear, and luck. If you accept that the enjoyment of riding a motorcycle is worth the inevitable crash, then go for it. As for me, nope nope nope. Putting my health, family, and career on the line simply for the adrenaline rush of biking makes zero sense. Risk far outweighs the reward.
