Everyone saying they wouldn't even consider it is lying. A random person out of 7.5 billion on the planet dies because a button is pushed that gives you $1 million per push - that's a lot of dissociation going on with such a decision, and a million dollars would be a life-changing sum of money for 99.9% of people. The only thing really holding anyone back would be fear of getting odds that are significantly worse than winning the lottery by having one of the button pushes kill either themselves, family or a friend.

That said, at LEAST 95% of people would push it at least once in that situation. The only people who wouldn't are people who are already filthy rich making it irrelevant for them to do it, or the select few who simply couldn't handle the guilt on any level under any circumstances. Talking like you're sure you wouldn't do it is cheap when you'll never be faced with that type of decision in your entire life.

Have you seen the movie Circle? Not The Circle. But Circle, Director Aaron Hann. It kind of questions social dilemma like that. A group of people realize they have to decide every few minutes who is going to die next, they’re all strangers and eventually it became a “who’s least useful” to buy time to figure out how to get out of the situation. Kind of really made you think about what kind of person you are if you were put in that situation.

I asked my wife last night and she said she doesn't have the right to take away a life (she's Christian lol). I said what about me, what about us? We're living in squalor and she won't even kill one person for a $1m? Selfish, I called her. I believe it's her religion that holds her back, and you can see in this thread that that seems to be the case.

Ah this movie, had completely forgotten about it. Pretty interesting. Can't remember the ending though.

That's an interesting point. Where would this money come from? Would it just be printed? And in who's currency?

Have you seen the movie The Box?? Weird ad but same concept as OP. Click a button and you get a million dollars. Only you get it for 24 hour and you only get to push it once. And if you click it and kill somebody it happens to kill the last person who chose to kill somebody. And so when somebody decides to kill next, it's you.
