But it’s crazy to me when you see someone successful, attractive, with kids and traveling, end up depressed or suicidal. Does it have something to do with the FOMO associated with rampant social media use ?

I think those who have "experienced" everything have little to live for; when you realize how small this planet is - and what few things exist to do - you get bored.

It's definitely tough to fully understand a person with depression who seems have it all.
I don't have much but my mental seems pretty level, I never really feel sad or down on myself, even when I was fat and an uggo. Only time I get depressed is when I'm hungover.

Ive debated suicide many times but never attempted it.
It can’t be summed up why in just a couple of sentences, but if I was going to try..
- complete feeling of isolation from society, family and God. Even with family making an effort to know you and spend time together this feeling “they dont know the real me”. A lot of times the root of this feeling is depression related. In high school I had no friends and sat by myself at lunch. Around 16-17 I remember one of the only times I opened up about it to my parents at the dinner table. It was one of those “hey son you dont seem that happy whats up?” conversations. I told them something to the effect i go to school every day, talk to no one, sit by myself at lunch and have no friends. This was when i was 120 pounds. My parents are good kind people and after i said it it was just silence. And really wtf could they do? I mean I could do things to help my kid because ive been there. But really wtf was gonna happen? My dad was going to say lets hit the weight room together? He didnt even know how to do a pushup with correct form. My moms schizophrenic its similar to having a disabled person for a parent she kind of reminds me of what i would expect an alcoholic invalid to act like. But anyway I have decided to limit my pity parties. I did not suffer the worst. Ive known 5 people in my life who truly suffered worse than me. One guys mom was murdered in front of him, another OD’d on heroin, another her mom had a brain aneurism went into a coma and she had to pull the plug, my brother was bullied so badly he didnt talk for the first 10 years of his life and later had to come to terms with being gay (srs), and finally someone i know is almost brain dead and in a near vegetative state.
I know all 5 of these people very, very well. So what I have learned is life is very hard. There are a lot of life analogies in the dark knight trilogy but none is more true than you will be faced with choices to become a dark thing devoid of light and feeling one of the demons making the world a worse place or the opposite a warrior that takes up the sword of good and tries to help people. What a great thing it must be to not ever be faced with any real adversity. To just go through life using people, focused on money, no conscience. But I think even for the psychopath that works only for their gain there is a reckoning. It may come in this life or the next but it will come. There will be a point in yourlife where God is everything or God is nothing. When you finally decide to be on his side heaven and hell will cease to be motivating factors. Ultimately you want to do what is right for the glory of God and to demonstrate your trust in him.
Peter 2:15
For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God

Love is the reason for everything. It is the meaning of life. Many people will spend their entire existence looking for some kind of meaning to all this when it was in front of their face the whole time they were just too scared to love.

Like the Buddha said, "desire is the root of all suffering". Desires don't cease simply because you get nice things or achieve your goals, you just end up wanting other things. This endless cycle of suffering sometimes gets the better of people, and they foolishly try to end their suffering by committing suicide, which of course doesn't work.

It is like saying to someone addicted to drugs to just stop and have some will power. And will power does not exist outside of the brain.

i'd rather be poor in money/wealth, but have good family, friends, etc around to support and love me.
being rich/famous/whatever is great and all, but if you lack those basic emotional things, then you slowly start losing interest in life.
the most depressed people are the loneliest, and being rich divides yourself from those around you, and if you're famous, like celebrity status, ha good luck finding real friends or family that doesn't want to secretly steal your wealth.

Probably because you dont see "behind the scenes"
I am a great, non-celebrity example of this. Im ****ing miserable/depressed alot of the time. Most people think I have it all. They see my beach house, exotic car, they know I have multiple rental properties, they see me with good looking girls that they know I have sex with, but no commitment. They think im a real life playboy/charlie sheen
In reality, I am CONSTANTLY working. I put a whopping 110 miles on my exotic car in 2018. Not because im trying to keep miles low, because im literally too busy to drive it. They think im living the dream having sex with no commitment. i WANT a girlfriend, I simply have no time for one. One of my rentals had a fire on xmas day, just this morning one's basement flooded. Im CONSTANTLY on the phone, meeting with contractors/adjusters, etc. I honestly lose money on rentals every year, all my money comes from overtime and working 70-80 hours at my 2 good-paying jobs.
Celebs are probably the same way. the saying "money cant buy happiness" sounds cliche but is 100% true.

Same, I just don't get it. There was this guy in my class, really funny guy, entertained everybody, made a lot of jokes (never at his own expense), had a lot of friends, was a mini Chadlite, had a gf, smoked weed everyday, played on a soccer team, everyone like him in general really. Then one day he was found dead in his room, he'd hung himself...
