How do people that seemingly have it all, end up depressed/suicidal ?

Because we've strayed from religious beliefs and more towards nihilism, people think that chasing materials/wealth is the answer but once they get it and realise it was never the answer they lose hope. Only answer to this is to meditate and get in touch with your spiritual side, live in the present moment and not in your thoughts.

Of course most wildly successful people are not depressed but for sure some get that way at times.
I think there are some who become successful in the first place because they were able to channel certain traits in a productive way such as extreme obsession, over-active mind, compulsions etc. But then there may be periods where these same traits they always had are not channelled in such ways and they nosedive.
In order to make it huge in some areas you have to have a tendency to get seriously obsessed and focussed on things. If you funnel this into one particular thing you either become a world class, rich and famous snooker player or you get in the news for stalking a celebrity lol. Being facetious but you know what I mean.

BTW, once you've felt you've "done it all" with all that money you're trying to attain, you're still back to where you started before having the money, only "richer" in the sense of experience and having those memories. I'm not saying you can't get by on those, but again, if you're imbalanced, you're not going to be able to see your way through the anxiety and depression to cherish those experiences and memories very well.
Seems a lot of people are ignoring the whole part about depression being a neuro-chemical disorder.

Because no one talks about their short comings.... all they see / post is their achievements.... all they see posted by anyone else is there achievements, and while it’s best not to compare sometimes you can’t help it.

Thread reminds me of this song
Truly feel for people that feel that way, whenever I've wanted to blow off my head, it was directly correlated with my life being ****, so improving things made things better, cannot imagine feeling that way if I have everything. Fortunately I'm a very driven person, so I'll always have things to do and thank God I actually have family that I have deep relationships and one legit ride or die friend.

STRONG lack of understand of the topic in this thread. I love you miscer’s but the obtuse nature of some of you folks when it comes to looking at complicated topics as simply black and white is nothing short of astounding.

My old boss was a multi-millionaire and brought that in annually because it was a small company. Had a mansion and a ranch with property that had wild life he hunted on and grew everything basically his own living/end of the world get away.
He is obese, no kids, no wife, and always seems Sad af. Takes medication daily and whenever he gets depressed he goes to his ranch. Chills.
Some people you think they have it all but they really don't.

A successful person will rarely reveal themselves as such.
Celebrities are hardly successful as they are minions at the beck and call of power hungry oldies who have complete control of their minions. Must be tough to be a medium for shilling to the masses on behalf of the media tycoons and business elites.
Don't get caught up in all the hype and FOMO being pushed by successful types. Never has any loud mouthed person actually been successful. If they are not discreet, they are most likely shills and are easy to cut and burn when they don't listen well like they should - hence the fall from "grace".

A lot of people become successful in the hopes that it will eradicate their feelings of sadness and lack of belonging, and when even that doesn't do it, they feel it's the end of the line.

and i know depression, i watched my mom who was my only parent lose her life to cancer when I was 10 and have felt suicidal since that time. have cut my wrists, dropped out of highschool due to bullying, and been through alcohol and drug abuse long term. so i understand what it's like to be lost in your mindset. i also know that perspective can be totally changed. i've seen it happen to me. i honestly did not care what happened to me and my life until last year when i traveled around asia and it finally made me want to live and desire to pursue an education at 26. i don't have good money though, so it will be a very slow change for me, and am struggling with finances, but if i did have money i would change everything about my life and my family's life.
i think there are two things that would help someone with money brighten up their lives and that's giving and creating. worth a shot anyways. i try to create music and paint models but can't really finance the tools. also want to get into watch making, and jewelry making, but those cost a lot of money too. i have nothing, no education, i work warehousing, no friends for more than a decade, no gf crew, but being creative adds flavour and spice to my life.
traveling is good too, i didn't realize it until recently. even just standing there in a different culture watching how people live in a different world opens up the mind. gotta be traveling to the right places though. western society is so toxic.
There is only one Hell: the one we live in now.

My question was how can people that are successful and also have a family (loving spouse, kids, etc) end up severely depressed.
It’s not surprising at all that someone with no spouse or kids gets depressed, because money only goes so far when you’re lonely and feel like you have no purpose

They feel empty, that their life has no meaning, or maybe they're in so much pain they feel like they have no choice but to end it.
