In all seriousness, legally if you pull that trigger the cop will need to show it was completely justified. Also, morally, they are dealing with people who have snapped and ending their lives is a heavy burden on anyone. Nobody but a pyscho wants to end another life, even someone unhinged and dangerous.

I do think he gave him too many chances and holstered his gun way too soon, though. He should have unloaded on him the second he rushed him like he did, instead of only wounding him.

People don't get it, but you can kill someone but not eliminate them as a threat. Meaning, they will die later but in that moment, full of adrenaline and/or drugs, they are still a deadly threat to anyone around them, particularly if they have a gun (which this guy didn't) but it doesn't take much effort to aim and pull a trigger, even if you've been shot and will bleed out.

Since I was a police officer I'll make a few comments.

1. Cops have no duty to retreat. The were very forgiving to let him walk that far. They could have stood their ground and shot him near the beginning.

2. Those heads hots were actually amazing. That scared me to death watching that. I am so glad I never had to take a shot like that. It's hard to get good with a hand gun and it's a perishable skill even for cops. Usually the only good shots on the force are range officers.

3. Need better f**king guns. I think those were 9mm. I'm not talking about "stopping power" exactly. I mean these weapons need to do a lot more damage and system shock. IMHO 9mm are useless.

4. There is no "shooting in the leg" bull****. Deadly force is deadly force. If you use that gun it has to be to kill someone. Otherwise you are risking spraying bullets around the place possibly hitting an innocent person trying to take a very stupid and low percentage shot.

I posted above, but edited in and you probably didn't read, but yeah - you can shoot and kill someone but not eliminate them as a threat. 9mm is a good example of this, you want them to be no longer a threat and on the ground. People can argue about what that takes, but I personally carry a .40 for this reason, even though I only get 5+1 rounds out of it VS some glock 9mm or something with 9 or more rounds.

This is sort of my feelings on it, too. Officers shouldn't retreat and beg people to not advance toward them with weapons. Stand there and if they are a legitimate threat to your life, kill them. I am pretty consistently critical of LEO, fwiw.

9mm is the best choice for pistols, imo. If the situation would allow it, I def think grabbing an AR is orders of magnitude better, but a .40 or .45 wouldn't have done anything the 9 couldn't do as well or better.

All cops should not retreat and stand their ground. *******s need to learn to obey the law and LEOs. If the entire country actually did this maybe these *******s would think twice at lunging at officers.
