WTF
My mind is BLOWN
I have never seen or heard of anything like this until now. Are we living in Idiocracy? That kid must be 17 years old and he's going BACK to 9th grade? LMAO. That's brutal, he'll never fit in. He should just drop out and flip burgers.
Even the "dumbest" kids in my school still somehow graduated with at least a 2.0 GPA. But a GPA below 1.0? Never saw it in my life. I went to a decent school in a decent neighborhood, though, so that's my "privilege" speaking.
Either way, this is 100% both the parent and kids fault. All you have to do to graduate highschool is show up and put in a tiny bit of effort. Take the tests, do most of the homework, etc. Most teachers will pity pass you just for attempting the group projects. The mom clearly had no interest or control over her kid, so he probably skipped school everyday and probably only showed up for a few tests here and there.
The teachers never reached out to the parents? They never held a conference call between the teachers and parents? How did the kid go through 4 years of school anyways? Just baffles me. Just pathetic how something like this can happen in the US in 2021. We should be getting smarter has a society. Our education system should be improving on a yearly basis. I don't know how bad that school is, or how terrible the teachers are, but that school needs to fix their chit!

Let me summarize what I said explicitly: Funding schools through property taxes creates a situation with penalizes the poor. You said that's great. Glad we agree. Let's move on. At no point was there any claim that this would solve the problems nor is there a claim this is the most important factor involved in the education of African Americans.

Why is everyone so stressed?
This kid will be admitted to Harvard before your kids. We're only a year or two away from "racial scholarships". By the time he gets back to 12th grade, he'll be in high demand by MIT, Harvard, Columbia, Berkeley, and Duke. No problem. Chill. He's got this.

The only time anyone could even remotely attempt to blame the school is if the child was actually at school and had a vested parent but I would wager that is such a rarity it's not even worth discussing.

I'm a high achieving white from a poor family. I qualify for 3 out of 40 business scholarships. 2 of which have a criteria of maintaining an A average, there is a sub clause underneath this that stipulates those of Polynesian descent only need to maintain a B average. Not hints as to who the target is.
The remaining 37 are allocated to females only, specific races like Polish, Nigerian, the aforementioned Polynesian and Japanese.
The only non-discriminating scholarship on the face of the description is a miserly $400 text book one.

Every one of our recent presidents has taken their idiocy as a point of pride.
"The jury is still out on evolution." - George W Bush. (To his credit, he later appeared to have changed his views as he became more educated on the subject.
Obama once said he couldn't help his daughters with their algebra homework...
And Trump...well...we've seen plenty of him.
If our nations are almost all exclusively uneducated lawyers or businesspeople, how can we expect the public to value science and mathematics? They see the power structure and will follow who has the power. It seems celebrities and lawyers are the ones who run our society and have all the influence.
And if the most powerful and influential people in our government don't have educations, how can we expect our most abandoned minorities to?
We need more scientists to run for office. We need more scientists to get the word out and become influential in popular culture. We need people to look up to another Einstein or Feynman like they did in the past.

The ignorance of his mother is the root of this problem, "the school failed him" she claims and ignores the fact that he was late or absent 272 days in three years.
The education system will only get worse until parents take charge, especially in black neighborhoods.

Having a father - agreed and this is a huge reason why its terrible
Gang influence - not as bad as some other cities but still is really bad for the kids who get caught up
Cost of living - You can buy a livable house in the ghetto here for $10k. In a nice part of town but still have to send your kids to private school to avoid the horrible public options its about $130k for a nice 3 bedroom built in the 60s. In the burbs 5 years ago it was close to the same at around $100 a sq ft but that is rising rapidly and was about $120 per sq ft the last time I checked

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
